So I finally passed the PTCE, which was awesome. For those that don't know, it's my 2nd time taking it after having failed it the first time I took it 3 months ago after having studied since January. This pales in comparison to things other people manage to accomplish, like an acquaintance of mine who actually met several Bengali political officials due to his invention of filtering water with practical means, or two friends of mine, one of whom isn't even out of high school yet, getting internships with Google and a local law firm.
But yeah, I've managed to get something done for the first time in my life, and I feel pretty proud. Never really felt like I've had to work as hard and commit so much of my time into one thing. When I saw "Pass", I started fist-pumping the air in the testing room, which drew the ire of the proctor, but #YOLO.
Anyways, so now I'll be waiting for official test results, and if nothing iffy shows up, then I'll be applying for a Pharmacy Technician license and hopefully, I can get a job in the oversaturated market that we have here in Texas.
As for me, I'm still eating healthy, which is great, haven't touched any junk food, no fried food, no soda, and no chocolate. Started taking protein, making myself a decent meal everyday (which I actually cool myself, omfg), and snacks are fruits, Greek yogurt. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with running in the morning and gym/some sort of exercise at home in the evening. Not much, but something to make myself productive this summer.
Still no interest in playing Brood War, not as much interest vested into MMA/UFC as I once did, and just getting more into what I need to do with my life and what I can do to myself a better person (not that I have some guidance map planned out).
Anyways, just an update on me, and a happy day (yay) from passing the exam.

Congratulations on passing your exam, I'm real happy for you, and I'mma let you finish, but we gotta watch the Jon Jones vs DC match. We have to. It's just mandatory.

Sounds like everything is on track, well done overall Uhh, I bought two of my own review books and basically studied hardcore, along with exercising. Studied up heavily on assisting the pharmacist and laws/ethics, and after barely brushing up on math and pharmacology, I was ready to go. The test itself wasn't too hard, though I don't know the official score I got, so it could be like, 1401 (passing is 1400) or a 1590 (perfect score is 1600). It was significantly more math questions this time around than last time, so I dunno what to make of the actual test format itself, but hey, I don't have to worry about it anymore!

Hopefully I'll have a job by then but still have time to watch on Saturday evening. Planning on applying to some local hospitals if anyone is looking to hire an inexperienced pharmacy technician with mediocre credentials.

See, once you've passed it, the fact that you failed it last time doesn't matter. The previous headache is gone and you feel much better You can always try to volunteer somewhere to get experience as you look for a tech job. If the place you volunteer at finds you reliable and you know your stuff etc... then there's a greater chance they'll hire you even if it's part time at first. Best of luck! ^^

Congrats man. I'm a CPhT myself. =)
The only memory I have of taking that exam is that it was in a room that was really warm so I almost fell asleep a couple times.
Now have fun doing CEs...

How many chances do you have? In Germany if you failed an exam 2-3 times (depends which uni you visit) you get a 15years ban to all (german) universities at that failed exam. If it was math, you cant do anymore I think. I dont think there are course of studies without math.

Pretty sure you have infinite chances since you have to pay for this exam (unless your work or school will pay for you) and is separate from what you do in school. If I remember right though, they make you wait a certain time before retaking. The certification makes you more marketable to potential employers (and some employers will actually not hire you if you are not certified).

Yeah, like Zen5034 said, the PTCE is separate from any school curriculum. As for the number of times you can take it, if you don't pass, then there's a 60-day waiting period. If you fail it 3 times, then you're required to wait 6 months. If you fail it 4 times, then you're required to petition to PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) for you to take it again. I don't personally know of anyone that failed it that many times and had to petition the PTCB, so I'm not sure how lenient they'd be, but hopefully that doesn't happen to anyone.
I wasn't sponsored by anyone, I just studied on my own and paid twice for the exams on my own.
As for certification, Texas doesn't hire someone that isn't certified as a pharmacy technician, but will hire them as pharmacy technician trainees, at which point the pharmacy will also sponsor the trainee to become certified. Apparently Pennsylvania doesn't require certification so there's that...
