Remember, he's been playing for 3, almost 4 years. $66,667 per year if over three years. Or $50,000 per year over four years. If we don't expect him to make any major earnings before the year runs out, closer to the later. You could argue he earns it, if he is one of those players putting in twelve hours a day, 7 days a week. Of course I have to do some assuming, I do not know his arrangements. That certainly was awesome when he was younger with team stipend (however much that is). But as I said, he is 21 now. I suspect that team Prime is not paying so well since Bomber and now MKP left. And every year he doesn't earn significant prize it stretches that ~$200,000 further. At the end of the day, we will just have to see what happens. He already left the game once. Bomber never was on Prime. And if 200k is just from tournaments you'd have to imagine he has a decent chunk from a salary as well. Sure if he's ONLY making 200k in 4 years that's not great, but that just isn't the case If I could make 50k a year playing a game I probably would.

The prize money is a shadow of what it once was. It's hard enough as it is to make it as a progamer in Starcraft II. If I were them, I would consider military service, going to university, getting a job. All of those would give you a superior income and a future toward eventual retirement. The writing is on the wall, unfortunately. I watch Proleague. That's about it. Do you have a source for this? I am kinda curious to see the prize money available in the sc2 scene over the years. No I do not have a source. Perhaps I spoke out of turn. But at the very least, we can agree the competition is much more fierce with the addition of KESPA teams. We see that there is no shortage of skilled free agents, making it a buyer's market. Teams can drive the money down they are willing to offer a player. Or they can even disband the team entirely and bring in a whole new roster. But yeah, I would be curious too. Much less MLG involvment, NASL, IPL gone. May be 1 or 2 less GSLs per year, though higher prize pool per tournament. I don't think WCS makes up for that, unfortunately. OK so I just did the math (well pretty much adding numbers :/) source - http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Premier_Tournaments2010 - 648,500 (does not include beta) 2011 - 2,239360 2012 - 2,784,890 2013 - 190,836 (Wol Winnings only) 2013 - 2,285,999 (HOTS Winnings only) 2014 - 2,281,175 so for the premier Tournaments there isnt really a huge decrease I cant say for the Major or minor tournaments. But all in all the money is still getting shoveled down sc2s throat.
interesting, thank you. however, i wonder how much of that money went to gsl, katowice and blizzcon champions. in other words: if you do not win one of the 3-6 really "big" tournaments of the year (in terms of winner's prize money), how big is the available prize pool then? i feel like the distribution of that available money has become much more top-heavy in recent years.

This is the best thing to happen to MarineKing! He will finally be free and can really show us his true skill. RIP Prime unfortunately, but honestly MarineKing IS Prime, he probably sacrificed everything for the team. Now he can do what he wants. Players leaving teams like this is not a bad thing, its the start of a new golden age of SC2!

All these older players leaving their teams should reform oGs..they would truly be worthy of the name

Hmm. Don't care where he plays but I hope he is going top again!

Sounds a little like MKP wants to go to a foreigner team that can send him to places. Too bad, I wanted to see a situation where he would have to battle Creator in an Ace match that decided the outcome of Prime making it to the playoffs in PL.

man, i cant believe teams cant stay afloat. i thought esports was going to get bigger than football by now. Hopefully all these talented players who are getting reqt due to bad PR or whatever find a smarter team or something. It's a shame to put in all that time into something and be as distinguished as they are and fall into the sidelines. : (

Don't worry guys, it's a new start for MK. He might just go into more foreign tournaments and maybe with a foreign team. I would love that as MK is my favorite player

This has been a bad year to be a popular player, MVP, MKP, DRG and Nestea all switching team. There isn't a SC2 fan in existence that isn't a fan of at least one of these guys.

I meant that more of if prize money is the only money he's making, not the value itself. I'd absolutely love to do it too
