The writing is on the wall, unfortunately. I watch Proleague. That's about it.

Do you have a source for this? I am kinda curious to see the prize money available in the sc2 scene over the years.

No I do not have a source. Perhaps I spoke out of turn. But at the very least, we can agree the competition is much more fierce with the addition of KESPA teams.

We see that there is no shortage of skilled free agents, making it a buyer's market. Teams can drive the money down they are willing to offer a player. Or they can even disband the team entirely and bring in a whole new roster.

But yeah, I would be curious too. Much less MLG involvment, NASL, IPL gone. May be 1 or 2 less GSLs per year, though higher prize pool per tournament. I don't think WCS makes up for that, unfortunately.

OK so I just did the math (well pretty much adding numbers :/)
source - http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/Premier_Tournaments

2010 - 648,500 (does not include beta)
2011 - 2,239360
2012 - 2,784,890
2013 - 190,836 (Wol Winnings only)
2013 - 2,285,999 (HOTS Winnings only)
2014 - 2,281,175

so for the premier Tournaments there isnt really a huge decrease I cant say for the Major or minor tournaments. But all in all the money is still getting shoveled down sc2s throat.

In 2010, $799,025 was awarded in prize money.
In 2011, $3,052,851 was awarded in prize money.
In 2012, $3,828,433 was awarded in prize money.
In 2013, $3,415,332 was awarded in prize money.
In 2014, $1,767,512 was awarded in prize money.
In total, $12,866,780 was awarded in prize money.
Source : Aligulac.
MKP won : $195,928

What has been awarded so far imho, since the post that I quoted has a bigger number than Aligulac. He probably has counted all price pool, already earned or not.
Edit : There is more than $1M in pending already haha.

Kespa or Axiom would probably the only ones that could afford to send him to foreign events.

EG no longer seems interested in SC2, unless they have a chance at a huge name like Flash or Fantasy.

But yeah, MarineKing and DRG are definitely the two hottest free agents at the moment.
You should not have to pay to watch the GSL, Proleague, or OSL at a reasonable time. That is not "fine" and it's BS to say otherwise. My sig since 2011. http://www.youtube.com/user/dabom88

Wtf people being sad about not calling him MKP anymore, "MK too weird and stuff", what about MarineKing? Stop going emo ffs

Sc2 was dying at the end of WoL already for me, Blizzard screwed this game's balance too hard, and now every mainstream players leave their team, Sc2 can't shine as bright as before with the new generation, there is no more hype

Haha, I must be the only fan not to be too sad about not calling him "MKP" anymore. I'm sad about him leaving his iconic team, but I've never been a fan of the acronym stuff. "MarineKing" is fine, and "MarineKingPrime" was badass as fuck.

I agree with you.
Nearly every friend that I knew that used to play/watch left during the end of the WoL era when it was like Top16 only ZvZs and never got back into it later on. It's a shame because when Blizzard doesn't do idiocies balance wise, it's a beautiful game

What.... Q_Q MK without P doesn't have that ring to it haha.. End of an era, truly shocking news. I hope he finds a new team, because when looking at his performance he now is a Code B free agent, and there are so many of them.. Good luck to you MarineKing!
