But all in all the money is still getting shoveled down sc2s throat. Even though there was a lot of hype back in the day, let's not forget the prize pool back in 2011 was pretty poor in tournaments like dreamhack/mlg Back then, MLG champion got only 5k (back when mma, bomber, mvp and huk were winning it), even though those were one of the best tournaments ever in terms of hype, enthusiasm, etc...

Even if you placed 5th-8th every season of WCS, that's only $15,000 before taxes. Even less in GSL as the prize distribution is more top heavy. Place high at a few other tournaments + salary, you could double, triple that $15,000. Then take out taxes. Not sure how prize money is taxed. Even without, a degree income is higher and definitely more stable than Starcraft II career. Look at the caliber of players placing 5th-8th every season. Then think about what income they probably make, putting in the hours they do. That is why I don't think even joining a foreign team and concentrating around those foreign tournaments will change MKP's life much.

Remember, he's been playing for 3, almost 4 years. $66,667 per year if over three years. Or $50,000 per year over four years. If we don't expect him to make any major earnings before the year runs out, closer to the later. You could argue he earns it, if he is one of those players putting in twelve hours a day, 7 days a week. Of course I have to do some assuming, I do not know his arrangements. That certainly was awesome when he was younger with team stipend (however much that is). But as I said, he is 21 now. I suspect that team Prime is not paying so well since Bomber and now MKP left. And every year he doesn't earn significant prize it stretches that ~$200,000 further. At the end of the day, we will just have to see what happens. He already left the game once.

And if 200k is just from tournaments you'd have to imagine he has a decent chunk from a salary as well. Sure if he's ONLY making 200k in 4 years that's not great, but that just isn't the case
