Coming seemingly out of the blue, the StarCraft Superstars tournament was announced nearly two months ago - It boasted that the winner would receive, among other things, the chance to room, train with, and become a part of the Korean StarCraft team E-Stro. A rather strange format, especially when considering what was at stake. No qualifications were held; sixteen players were chosen to participate in a double elimination tournament, with the winner taking $500. E-Stro was then to choose a player from the top 5 to become a part of their roster. The top five also got the priviledge of playing (getting trounced by) the Korean E-Stro players.
And that player is none other than IdrA, who dropped only a single game in this tournament. Love him or not, you have got to give him credit for this win, and this opportunity to be one of the few American players to join the ranks of a professional StarCraft team.
Because of the delayed results, there was some concern that E-Stro would back out of taking a player to Korea. IdrA is, however, currently scheduled to move to Korea after finishing the winter semester of high school. He also mentioned the possibility of taking the GED rather than finishing this year, meaning he could be in Korea as soon as January. He says that he does intend to take progaming seriously, and will delay college if necessary. He added that Daniel Lee (The E-Stro coach) "is very understanding of a kid with a dream, so as long as I don't make absolutely no progress, I'll probably be able to stay as long as I want. But if I realize I'm not gonna do anything and I'm just taking up space, I won't prolong it."
On the whole, he said the tournament wasn't too hard, which is to be expected when going 10-1, but did attribute some of his wins against Skew to getting lucky with initial build orders. He will switch from PvT to TvT once he makes the move to Korea. Since he already plays TvP, he says his mechanics are strong, but he currently lacks game sense in this matchup. IdrA said it's hard to get good TvT practice, as foreigners rarely play the matchup, and it's not worthwhile staying up until 3AM to practice with Koreans. He closed with "I figure all of my matchups blow compared to the progamers so it wont be that big of a deal."
Congratulations to IdrA, and good luck in Korea!

Im sure the college would think you'd rather play video games than go and get an education, and therefore not accept you.

if you have a good gpa/sat scores does it even matter if you get a ged instead of a diploma?

uh its not really him "going and playing a video game" its him going to another country and playing professionally. Colleges would probably view that kind of a thing with high regard as he is extremely unique and can bring fame to a university. But even if that isnt true I just think characterizing it as "playing a video game" grossly underestimates the magnitude of this honor. Dropping out of a term of highschool to do something few can ever do is not stupid. It'd be stupid to miss this oppurtunity to see a new part of the world and play the game he loves professionally in the name of maintaining his proliteriate life and droning on like so many sheep.
Oh and GL greg. You will really grow as a gamer if nothing else That being said I expect you to play me still AND get me games with some professionals.

If the college is willing to accept him as is, I'm sure they'd be more than glad to defer his admission while he plays professionally in another country.
It's not as if he's saying, "I'm going to wait a year so I can sit on my couch and play Halo 3."

You know I was being nice to PR for some random reason and agreed to move the post to news for him but I just felt dirty seeing artosis's name go on the news page. Thanks for cleaning up the mess I made Chill.

chill thats twice now that i strongly disagree with the way you are admining. dont compare me to some idiot just because i call you on it. rick was waiting for the eSTRO new site to go up. he was acting professionally. rick has a long history of hosting events. i see no reason to hijack a news he should make and then delete it when it gets out there.
