The folks at Diii.net had an interview with Johnathan Yang who is one of the Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls developers at Blizzard, here's an excerpt from their summary:
"John says they tune for roughly 40% crit chance, 400% crit damage, and 1.5 attacks per sec."
If you played Diablo III you'll know that crit chance, crit damage, and attack speed rule over all other stats for items - they are the best three stats for every character, every build, and if you're not stacking them you're purposely gimping your character's strength.
There was hope that maybe Blizzard would address this for the new expansion, maybe nerf some of these stats because itemization is boring partially because the item has these stats (called trifecta (http://www.diablowiki.net/Trifecta)) or it doesn't and it's vendor trash.
Looks like Blizzard isn't doing anything about that, they'll just tune the game assuming that you're doing the same cookie-cutter bullshit as everybody else in order to maximize your character.
Lame.

Or...the stats of each item could be significantly higher in RoS making for those limits easier to reach with less items allowing for a much bigger diversification. I could easily see those numbers being hit with only 1 or 2 of the stats on each item come RoS.
Items suddenly open up a whole lot more once you're only looking for 1 or 2 of the "trifecta" on each item. Hell they could remove the stats from certain slots and just skyrocket the percentages on others.

I already paid for ROS. I think I will enjoy it for awhile like I do with D3 but in the end be disapointed

I only played Diablo III for a bit before I got bored. I've been hearing that Blizzard is doing a good job with patching and such. Maybe they'll change this if they find it's not working as intended?

I had a very short stint with D3, as I could not find the motivation to finish the game more than once. I do not blame the game for presenting a bad experience, it is just that I normally don't gravitate towards games where mindless farming of gold and items seem to be a virtue. Maybe RoS will fix those problems, if only for one playthrough.

I got to Inferno Act 2 and got bored as fuck. They still didn't fix any of the huge problems with the game from what I can tell. Yeah...not holding out for this shit. Not to mention Path of Exile shits all over D3, and it's free too. If I get that craving again I can just boot that up.

I have already preorder the digital collector edition since I don't have much time to grinding, the game is pretty awesome for me since they have announced to rely less on the auction house. even D2 for me was all about finishing the campaign and go for a harder difficulty until I find another game to play
Maybe it's because I have another grinding game to play (disgaea)

I always kept coming back to that game and just as I read your comment now, I got an inkling to install it and play again lol. I guess nostalgia plays a role but I dunno, something about Diablo II got me hooked more than Diablo III which is why I never got past the first act.

D2 is weird in the fact i can boot it up and finish normal in one sitting happily but with D3 i can only manage an act at best. Nostalgia at its finest :D

Same - I can still play Diablo II - any character, almost any build, and have fun. I think a sorceress is the only character that I have had my fill of.

maybe because in d2 we have permanent stats that reflects how bad the build is and makes you yearn to correct it but still would make you finish normal mode? but in d3 builds are interchangeable and no stats designation? thats why it is boring? even if it is less disapointing? am i a masochist?
