Unlike my HoTS debut, I didn't research builds, I didn't look into strategies, I just went into the game and played, I used a little of my prior knowledge of course. Making sure I walled off against Z, scouting for early pools. Making sure I was prepared for drops against T and the usual things.
5 matches later, with 3 wins and 2 losses. I sit back and think "hey maybe I hit silver in this one, this went a ton better than all my HoTS placements!" Then it appears, my WoL league for this season.
Platinum.
I wasn't exactly sure how to react. I'd stumbled across Silver and Gold players during my matches, losing to the odd gold Zerg along the way. I decided to check nios.kr for the league distribution, which left me scratching my head even more. As of writing the WoL EU distribution is as follows:
GM: 0.04%
Masters: 0.35%
Diamond: 3.06%
Platinum: 7.89%
Gold: 23.93%
Silver: 47.60%
Bronze: 17.13%
I'm a Toss, who in HoTS is struggling to get out of Bronze League, yet in WoL I'm in the top 12% of EU players? Is WoL really that lacking in quality now or is the lack of players in WoL skewing actual skill levels? There is only around 17K players placed in WoL on the EU server as of writing.
I'm just going to sit in-game, staring at my shiny new badge for a bit before I return to my sexy shit brown coloured one for HoTS. I really feel like I should be cheering because I've accomplished something but I genuinely don't know shit about the state of WoL right now.
