Ok he might not be a pro but he definetly was an important person for the community, so I think this will be interesting for a lot of people. So I just leave this here:
This was a bit depressing to watch I must say especially the things about his job etc almost made me cry (cause I have a similar problem). But most importantly he wont do any SC II related content (or any content for any game at all) anymore due to not having fun with the game.
So many players/pros leaving is sad .
I recently started donig the pure marine build again vs Protoss to train my mechanics cause Im totally lost there. If Filter didnt have made this I would have lost faith in the game too.
GG Filter , you will be missed. We will not forget what you have done for the community.
EDIT: Some more info who this is :FilterSC did a lot of tutorial videos named "From Bronze to Masters" . He showed how to get better at the game by purely relying on mechanics and not gimmicky stuff. Most of the time when someone needed help mechanics wise this guy was mentioned. He also had a pretty good stream. EDIT2: Altered my post a bit after asking a mod about it so people dont pounce on it due to making a "SC2 is dying/whining about the game" statement.
UPDATE: Some people wanted more infos so I just let his work speak for itself:
This is the Video that focuses on getting the basics done: -spend your ressources - dont get supply blocked - keep your production going Its a simple "mass marine" build but it shows how to train your mechanics. After you completed this task you could learn some real builds that he also showed. Note: this is the HOTS version and the redefined version and he showed this versus AI. But he also did this in WOL and vs real opponents:
There are several videos on his yt channel where he did this vs humans too. He worked several accounts up to masters league with this build to show the power of macro. To grant fairness vs low league players , since he was a masters player, he didnt used any fancy micro moves etc just attack move. He also didnt reasearched stim or upgrades. Mostly he focused on terran but he also made a few videos for the other Races.
The next one is a 4 video series. Here he shows the basics for getting into sc2 and also a video about the strenghts and weaknesses for all races. The videos are: 1. The absolute basics
2. Understanding playstyles .
3. Picking a Race/Understanding a Race
4. Learning Starcraft 2 Braaaaains
My favourite one is the third video cause it gives some nice insight into all 3 Races. So I hope these videos are some good examples. Check out his youtube channel for some more infos.
Also can a mod please add an [Updated] tag to the subject line? Dont know that works.
I always recommended his guides when someone asked me how to learn the game. He produced some great content, too bad it didn't work out in the end. Best of luck in the future Filter!

Done. I hope this is enough info ,didnt want to make a wall of text. Im also surprised that there are people who dont know him. Oh also why not check out his youtube channel .

Not a pro, but a fairly good player, who helped many many people get good at starcraft: a true legend in the community. True it doesn't say much objectively when one person quits though.
Yeah. I really liked his videos and I was hoping he could become a bigger name, but it's unnecessary to make a post just to whine about the game again.

Could you guys please read my first post carefully and stop posting such stupid comments like this. I never said the game was/is dead nor did I wanted to whine about the game wtf . He was a very helpful person to a lot of community members so I think this deserves a little bit attention. I cant think oft any other guide that was mentioned/linked so often (besides day9) if someone neede help with mechanics. And the pure marine build was just a training for mechanics he also made other stuff.
It's crazy because everyone that stops playing is stopping for the same reasons. I stopped playing for the same reasons as filter. I quit playing because it's just not fun. I know people rag on league a lot, but when you know what you're doing in that game you get rewarded. In sc2, it's as simple as picking protoss and learning 1 all in. Hell, we even have a high masters protoss player that plays with an Xbox 360 controller (you could never do that in broodwar and get past D+).

All of that is true, but if you didn't want your post to be received as whiny you shouldn't have ended it with "If a player that relied purely on mechanics and teached others to use this mechanics quits cause he doesnt have fun doing it anymore , then this is a bad thing."
Guy moves on from game he played casually(aka not for a living)for nearly 4 years. No longer makes videos, so game must be dying. Do we need these threads every time an unpaid community figures life becomes to busy for them to continue their work?

I read your post; especially:
But most importantly he wont do any SC II related content (or any content for any game at all) anymore due to being the game in a horrible state.
--> Game is in a horrible state (what he said is basically the Protoss (and to some extent Zerg) does not need skill, only Terran does.
I think this is really sad but also alarming too.
--> It is sad that he does not make videos anymore, but why is it alarming?
If a player that relied purely on mechanics and teached others to use this mechanics quits cause he doesnt have fun doing it anymore , then this is a bad thing.
--> QQ game needs no mechanical skill.
So many players/pros leaving is not good for the game at all
--> Let's say I leave SC2, would that be bad for the game? I guess not.

Are you trying to troll or do you have poor reading skills? This was definetly NOT how my post ended , neither it was the last line.
Honestly this guy has never contributed to tlnet in any form. It's a random dude who had a youtube channel who got bored of the game and decided to move on. And this warrants a "retirement" thread because? I can't think of a reason. I guess we better go find the other 10k+ youtubers that stopped making videos/tutorials and give them a tribute as well.

making albeit helpful YouTube videos doesn't at all warrant someone to stand out as a legend.
