The first episode of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion unfolds at rollercoaster pace, leaving no time for the viewer to let the events sink in, let alone reflect on them. I found myself having to pause frequently to keep up with what was happening. Scores of characters are introduced (barely), most of them walking clichés. Some High School Girls are shown just long enough to set up for a high-school-lovey-dovey-harem-romance scenario. The Evil Tough Guy in charge of the Imperial Royal Guard wouldn't convince a three-year-old. The main character is a Fallen Prince with an Idiot Friend. The dialogue is stilted and sometimes nonsensical (at least going by the translation), with cringeworthy attempts at humor.
There is copious mecha (human-controlled robots and machines) pew-pew to spice things up, adding "action". A Japanese quarter is wiped out in a Britannian cover-up job in order to demonstrate the utter evil of the White Devils who now rule the world and only have contempt for the noble Japanese. The plot is a series of rather convenient coincidences, and every event, theme and character crammed into the 24-minute duration has the subtlety of a sledgehammer.
The only thing Code Geass R1 E01 gave me was an urge to write this.

I opened this blog hoping for a funny story about Doraemon or Anpanman. Now I'm sad

Anpanman?
Anime is not for everyone. I don't know what you like but I can recommend you check out Gintama.

I haven't seen Code Geass, so I can't say for sure, but the chances are good that the translations screwed up a lot of things. Anime translations generally are pretty bad.
If this is your first anime, then it's no surprise you'd find it stupid. Most anime don't make much sense in a vacuum, they use certain genre-typical (genres within the medium anime, that is) elements over and over again, the real content lies behind that. You kind of have to learn how to watch anime.
And of course there are plenty of crap anime out there, no denying that. Just as with everything else. Not a reason to call them "kiddy-cartoons".

Well Code Geass is one of the most overrated piece of garbage animes out there, so i mostly agree with what you said. However there are some gems out there which avoid all the nonsensical and genre-typical anime bullshit. Like Mushishi or Logh

I always wondered what people like about Code Geass. Not only is it not all that great by itself, it's also aimed at girls. Not that Shoujo can't be entertaining or well-made, but it becomes weird when you're used to shounen using a similar style.

welcome to bad, but popular, anime
|
Also, IMO, the drawing style is not to my liking. That's what put me off Codea Geass at first. Still watched it and enjoyed it in the end.
And I'd say the scenes when the ladies suit up and get down into the robot, the show is definately Shonen.
After thinking it through more, I'd say that CG is half shonen half shoujo ^^

Yeah, most are kiddy like. I have seen plenty and I just can't take any more anime where noone dies whatsoever, there is no personal relationship coherence(main character befriending everyone that tries to kill him after their villain arc is done) and stuff like that. There are no consequences it feels like.
But occasionally you will find the odd Madoka, Steins Gate, Psycho Pass and you will enjoy them. Plus if you are new to the genre you can always watch the classics and understand why so many people came to love anime.

its CLAMP! noodle people with Sunrise MECHA! YEAH! :D Anyways itsjustatank totally nailed it already (even though i still enjoy bad anime just cuz I can sit back and just watch it for the mecha/fan service every once in a while) >Madoka being good LOL cuz anything that is grim dark (inb4 deconstruction gets used) is good now. Also title is misleading I was thinking of doraemon as well since CG is mostly aimed that a slightly older age group.

When people shit on anime for being for kids and having no depth, the go-to answer is that they should watch Monster.

Except the OP who is clueless about the subject noone else said that all anime are childish crap. But the occasional gem like monster doesn't mean the opposite.

Heh, the title was just intended to draw attention I didn't expect it to be taken so seriously. I've watched some animes throughout the years.
Gintama, Monster, Madoka, Stein's Gate, Psycho Pass, Mushishi, Logh Thanks, will check out.
This blog was mostly selfish ranting, but thanks for the helpful responses.

Nobody so far has mentioned Attack On Titan, so I'll just throw that into the pot.

A japanese bloke I met in Kyoto recommended me that anime! Hopefully it lives up to his excitement so that I can thank him when next time I see him

I don't know the manga; maybe that one deserves the fame, but the anime... no idea what people like about it. I watched the whole thing just to maybe get it, but to no avail.

Watch Utena instead of Madoka :D also Attack on Titan is ok for what it is. Might as well ask the TL anime thread for their thoughts -- I mean they have that link breaks down what anime to watch -- which for the most part is really nice.
