Damn that season is at an all time low. It sucks really. Episodes are boring as fuck and the few good things in between have such a feeling of deja vu or just plain cheesy.
I'm really disappointed but I guess I started to already feel this series was going downhill since a couple seasons. But damn that one is bad I really just keep watching the episodes just to see how it ends.

Basically this, I don't get the massive hate circle jerk going on in the thread. The writing is somewhat worse but after so many seasons it's expected. The stakes are lower because of the amount of random shit going on but at least there are less boring filler episodes than previous seasons. I've seen shows end far worse than this. It's still Dexter and better than most shit on TV.

1. I don't watch most shit on TV.
2. The only shows I have watched that ended worse than this are How I met your mother, which I stopped watching years ago because of how bad it was getting, and Heroes, which I would put forward as the absolute poster boy of a series which started awesome and went to shit.
Don't get me wrong, I think Dexter had some great seasons after the first, and I enjoyed all of them enough. Season 7 was pretty good, even. However, season 8 is pathetic. Writing, acting and direction has taken a nosedive and it is entirely obvious.

American Television. People demand more seasons then complain when they are never as good as the original seasons.
I really don't get all the hate. Yes it has gotten worse over the seasons, but what do you expect after 8 of them? I see people calling certain plot lines stupid, even though they are exactly the same as plots from their favourite seasons. The show is still enjoyable, but people seem to love overreacting and this so called "circle jerking". I will always remember Dexter for its first 4 seasons, but I can still enjoy the others. And if I don't enjoy the others, I will stop watching rather than coming on here posting nothing but hate and then continuing to watch so I can come on again the next week and continue to hate.

It's not circle jerking. The show is pathetic. It SUCKS. It's the worst thing on TV. If you can't see that then you are not paying attention and probably would enjoy anything so long as it has moving pictures.
Don't come here and tell people they are overreacting when what used to be a great show has turned to absolute garbage. It's not even funny anymore. The last few seasons were bad, but season 8 is many times worse. It doesn't make sense at all. The writers don't care. The director doesn't care. The editors don't care. But we do. Stop saying we shouldn't.

Its bad, but worst thing on TV? lol not even close.
It really just sucks when anyone wants to actually discuss the episode and what happens next, they can't, because everyone is too busy repeating the same "this show is so bad what are the writers doing" that any sort of actual discussion about Dexter gets shut down. Can we maybe actually talk about the show?
The last episode was pretty slow, but I think the 9th episode usually is. 11 and 12, they don't really have a choice but to heat things up. Anyways, while I didn't enjoy them pulling a character out of a magic hat to be the brain surgeon, I think he has potential to really make things difficult for Dexter. It hasn't been since Trinity that we saw someone actually on Dexter's level as far as killing goes. Which is I guess what the writers were going for. I think the finale still has the chance to be pretty cool depending on where they go with this.

What's non-American Television like? No really, I'm all ears, I need something new to watch. Seems like the natural progression of a show in general to me, not just exclusive to American TV. I've seen numerous anime series go to shit doing the same thing. I was always of the opinion that this should have been a 5-6 season show, the plot just didn't seem to have the potential to last this long and I didn't have the faith the writers could pull it off.
Also, do you live in the real world? It's not always as simple as "well this sucks. I'm not going to watch anymore". No, people have invested years into this show, and even waded through the seasons they perceived to be crap in the hopes that at least the final season could wrap-up somewhat decently. Hell, even after reading some of the leaks for the last 4 eps, I still watch a few of these in the hopes that maybe they executed the plot better than they sound. Maybe the leak is bs (I hope). Maybe some of the plot details were missed and there's more...
Nothing wrong with that either. It's a forum after all, and what's being discussed is the dynamic drop in quality. In all my years of watching TV, I've never seen a show go from such a high peak to such a terrible low. Yes, ofc there's been a degradation in quality but for a show to be this embarrassingly bad in it's final season is just a truly lousy spectacle imo. Yes, if it were any other season it'd be passable maybe, but you have to keep in mind that this is it. There is no more Dexter after this. You'd think the writers would have banked ideas for the end, but...
Tearing this show apart has been catharsis for me, and apparently a lot of others as well (especially on Reddit). Hell, reading the angry reviews, and funny gifs/images ridiculing this once great show have actually managed to cheer me up after such a monumental disappointment. It's made me view this as more of a comedy. At least those dumping on the show actually offer up specifics. Something of substance to propagate the forum. People like you who are defending it never offer up much of note as to why it's not that bad. You still find it enjoyable? Fine, you're entitled to your opinion. Tell us why, instead of being vague. You might convince us.
Man, I just finished rewatching season 4. Practically curled up into a fetal position waiting on the final scene, when Dexter hears Rita's phone ring...
The contrast between that season and this one is a great reminder of how wide the gap is in the writing, acting, plotlines, everything. I also forgot how great Rita was as a character. She kind of annoyed me back then, but now I realize how perfectly the actress captured her vulnerable personality. I think they jumped the shark by killing her off, there just wasn't any direction for Dexter to go after that point.

Does he cancel the apocalypse?
The serial killers in Luther are alot more fleshed out and interesting than 90% of the ones Dexter has faced since season 4, and really on par or better than anything from seasons 1-3. There aren't many episodes per season, but each is about an hour and a half with no commercials, so more like a mini-series than a typical tv show. Both Luther and Sherlock are excellent BBC shows.

I will concur that Sherlock is an amazing show even if it's only 3 episodes a season. They're really well written and directed. I'm excited for season 3 when it comes around.

There's plenty of shows I've stopped watching when I no longer cared for it. Prison Break s3, Heroes s3, The Walking Dead s2, Bleach after 50 or so episodes. It's actually rather easy. I guess that's why our views are so at odds, because for the life of me, I just can't understand the sense in someone (who gets no entertainment value from a show) continuing to watch it.

Yea, we can. It's fucking garbage, that's what it is. This season is so incredibly bad that this is the only thing worth talking about. That scene with harrison and the treadmill... I can't even describe how retarded that was. The scene describes S8 perfectly and everything what's wrong with it.
