RWBY characters essentially had "gun type" modification to what is otherwise standard weaponry. I think the only one that is essentially without is White. But one could argue that thing in her saber would essentially be like a revolver type cartridge for elemental spells/attacks? That's what I feel.
Watching the trailers, it gives me more of a game-y vibe rather than a movie/episodic vibe. Granted the art style is one of those reasons, but fight scenes really look like they were all brought out from a game/game cutscene. Which doesn't make them bad though.
I liked the concept of the fights in general. It kind of reminds me of playing Rusty Hearts, especially the unwieldy scythe. =)
I am curious to watch the webisodes once they come out to see how the story unfolds.
In summary, as some have pointed out/referenced Red - Little Red Riding Hood (hinted at by the enemies being wolves) White - Snow White I guess (enemy could be symbolic of the huntsman) Black - not sure yet how it hints at beauty and the beast except her having car ears;. =) Yellow - Goldilocks they showed a bear mask/helmet in the bar worn by the DJ)
Dunno if anyone caught this, but I noticed their names are all just variations on their color. Ruby is a dead giveaway, obviously. The others might not be as obvious. Weiss is white in German, Blake is an Old English derivation of black, and Yang might be a reference to the Chinese character 阳, which means sunlight. Not the deepest, but at least they put some thought into it.
Just watched all 4 previews for the first time and I must agree that the fighting scenes are very game like. The fighting i feel lacks emotion, no sense of pain or fear or any emotion. The fighting style is full of combos, dashes, and supers which makes it like I just watched a game of marvel vs capcom.

That's the point actually. All of his previous work was based on video games. RBWY is just as inspired by video game fights as his previous work. My personal favorite series of his is Dead Fantasy where he has the cast of Final Fantasy fight the cast of Dead of Alive.
The vocalist had very good diction despite the tessitura of the song. Preview wise it was good for a junk-food movie type of deal but I can't image it being very plot driven. Would make a fun game :D
trailers are awesomesauce. the totally make me go "where the fuck can i buy this game NOW!" ... which i guess isnt quite the intended reaction but still.
def will watch the first episode. if they can deliver enough of those great fights i dont give a shit about plot and voiceacting(which can improve). lets see if they can do that.

Red trailer was the best, went downhill from there. Will probably not watch, but get my hands on the soundtrack.
^ Pretty much this. As someone who has seen alot of anime, I think this show wont hold up at all, except to all the raging diehard rooster teeth fanboys and fangirls.
If people just want to watch cool fights they can go watch Black Lagoon or something.
Reds voice makes more sense now, given what her character is like. First episode didn't make me go "omgomgthisisawesome", but I don't totally hate it either. Gonna wait and see how it develops, don't have any particularly high expectations though.
The voice acting wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Animation was decent; in parts, it was flawless, but there were definitely moments where it looked like something was a little out of place. The music was stellar.
Overall, it's worth 10 minutes of my life every week/month/whatever.
Honestly the voice acting wasnt that bad and I think the voice acting is on par with the art and the art is obviously not amazing itself for obvious reason. My only complaint is that Ruby character is a bit out of place. I expected her to be a very shy, cute, quiet, mysterious, reserved and cool. Instead we get a very cheery, funny, and out going girl and there nothing wrong with that but evidence from her trailer, shown her visiting a grave alone in the wood thus showing that she probably had a dark and tragic past. Her character is also wearing a robe/cape that can hides her face thus showing she does not like to be the center of attention and that she is a reserved/shy person. To top it off, we have a very sad and slow pace song throughout Ruby trailer showing she is probably a very quiet and passive person. Because of this, I believe that Ruby personality and voice does not fit her character design. I absolutely LOVE her design but the personality + voice doesnt match her and I find it a bit irritating.
The choice they chose to go with and made her into a cheery and outgoing person did ended up complimenting her voice well so I didnt mind the voice very much and some what understand why they made her like she is. Although her voice is probably on the lower end of the tier from the other voices in the show. (maybe not as bad as the minion that got hit in the store.) Some of her scream in the store were meh....but her conversation during her interrogation was pretty well done.
But overall I did enjoy it and they exceeded my expectation. Yellow voice seem the best so far and fit her character the most. The humor was also pretty good too. The back story was a bit simplistic but not too bad. Wish there was a bit less magic fighting and more scythe killing but the magic fighting was much better than I thought too. Only problem for me is the ruby voice + personality vs her design.

I think the problem is that you're basing your opinion of the character design on the trailer, when the trailer is just that, a trailer. Obviously the first one was designed to catch attention, so it used very stylised design aspects. Its just like a movie trailer; a good trailer can make a film look completely different to how it actually is (see, Cabin In The Woods). Surely it would be better to form an opinion on the character design based upon how they're actually portrayed in the show?
I thought it was great, and I don't tend to like anime usually, so obviously that's the Monty and Miles factor showing there! xD To those saying its too video-game like, all I can say is... its Rooster Teeth. Their entire company is based upon making videos about/in games. Of course there's going to be video-game influences.
