I've been kinda afk from blogging because I've been reading so much, and because finishing Infinite Jest took so long (like 16-17 days compared to the original 10-11 that I wanted). I actually did finish the book, but it left me so bereft of a cathartic ending that I just think every night about what actually happened and what I should take away from the book, and how it ended, and yeah. Yeah. I read some selected writings by Guillaume Apollinaire and Bonjour Tristesse by Francois Sagan. Tristesse was ok, a very short, chick-flick-esque book, Apollinaire changed the way I view cubismo and how poetry should look; though his actual writing did leave a bit to be desired when it came to prose, his poesy had an enormous effect on my poetry paradigm.
I just finished Taipei by Tao Lin, which is not really modernist/post-modernist, but more Transgressive literature which is ultra-modern apparently. I enjoyed the book immensely, but it also left me with this ending that makes me think that Paul and Erin aren't perfect for each other, and that Paul really isn't "grateful to be alive," but said the line only because of the enormous amount of shrooms he was on. The book had prose that became more complex as the book advanced, but Lin's inability to actually describe a facial feature outside of a grin pissed me off; He is an accomplished writer, but the only facial feature any of his characters had was a grin, a meak grin, a wide grin, a grinny grin grin. I'm still confused by his choice in that facet; this was made up for by the depth of his socio-emotional descriptions. Next two books are The Counterfeiters by Gide and Tristes Tropiques by Levi-Strauss.
I'm in Las Vegas now. I've pretty much spent the last couple days hanging with my family. Vegas is really boring on the strip if you aren't with a significant other or single, neither of which accurately describes me lol. I also am too young to gamble, so yeah. The clothing stores here are cool, I found I really like Sisely or however you spell the shop. I've been to a couple restaurants, and one was great and the other was meh. I also went to the Grand Canyon and took pics of me hanging off the edge (I'm hardcore, full tapout clothing apparell god here) to scare my 'rents. Good stuff. So far I'm enjoying Vegas, but not as much as I expected to enjoy it.
I'll be starting college pretty soon, and my next book blog will be out pretty soon, like next 2 weeks or so. I'll be blogging more/less frequently depending on the weeks and stuff. Also, to the literary people here, I read infinite Jest, should I read Witz and Gravity's Rainbow?
