i've never found a double socket manticore within the price points of single socket ones that give me equivalent DPS, i spreadsheet every single purchase I make and index them according to price in order to best determine what is the best upgrade I can possibly make. i can reach higher DPS quite easily, i just dont usually wear that gear since it involves a nonsocketed helm and a different ring which has no exp bonus on it. in any case you're right I thought u just meant non SS'd dps, i think i have like 220kdps unbuffed in max max dps gear.
i also dont prefer to 'lock' into a build, which is why I don't favor bonuses like multishot etc.. the only bonus i like is +disc which is handy with every spec and is pretty godlike in pvp situation (not that this really matters as of now). i would consider +spike trap dmg only since that is my preferred build for high MP level. you can also stack an insane amount of %dmg for spike trap (like +20% from ring + chest, which is quite significant esp with echoing blast.

Any ideas on what to upgrade next? Keep in mind this is hc so shit is more expensive and I'm poor.

Also what are thoughts on the grenade strafe? I find it extremely useful for kiting elites and doing good dmg while dodging mortar/etc. Also good at killing big packs of enemies at the same time b/c of the aoe.

At above 100 million, there really aren't any rares that can compete with manticores. 50 million is an annoying price range for manticores, but you can find a 1300 plus single slot, or a 1100 double slot. I would withhold on any purchases, as the upgrade would be pretty minor, especially considering these cheap mantis have low 70s CHD. I strongly urge to wait until you have 100m-150m before you decide to upgrade your bow. As then you can find nice 1350-1400dps mantis that you wont urge to upgrade for quite a while. Double mantis are pretty silly purchases right now, and honestly don't make very much sense at all unless you're in search of a 1250dps+ 2 socket.

Bleh, rings are such stupid things to buy, so hard to decide what to get on them. Looking for a 300mil-500mil ring... I like to search for:
5% CC 35% CD 6% ias *blank* dex
Now at my price range this finds me something about 6% cc, 40% cd, 7% ias, 80-100 dex. But that just seems so shitty -.- Like seriously, my old ring instead of the ias had 70 vit and 350 LoH and was only 20-30 million... I guess trifecta is overpriced in relation to what it does.
So I'm trying to find alternatives, like instead of trifecta, take out IAS and go for:
5% cc 40% cd *blank* dex
And now is where the guessing game starts. Useful stats I'd like on a ring are:
->Average damage (honestly I dunno beneficial this is, seems very minor unless it's a large number like +30-50 damage per attack, dunno if this is a worthwhile one, but the only other thing that does dps) ->Vit or Life%... Life% seems pretty cheap, vitality isn't too expensive either, I guess people would rather maximize their dps on this slot. ->LoH/Life after kill. I life Life after kill, super cheap, I find it useful too, with good armor this can be your healer because I have 4k~ Life after kill, so its super fast regen. LoH rings can't roll very high, seems too minor of a boost, dunno, could be useful. ->All resist, a very expensive premium, probably not something I'm willing to spend huge amounts of money for.
How do you guys choose your rings?
CC/CD/IAS/DEX/VIT
5.5%//50%//8%//90//0 (420mil~) 5.5%//45%//6%//90//60 (350mil~) 5.5%//50%//8%//80//100 (2000mil~) 6.0%//50%//7%//70//0 (2000mil~)
So the 2000 million dollar rings are really just very marginally better, I decided to take a look at the no IAS ones and:
5.5%//47%//0%//80//70 PLUS: 70AR + 30 Max Damage 6.0%//48%//0%//80//80 PLUS: 70AR + 30 Max Damage (200mil more than above) 5.5%//49%//0%//130//60 PLUS: +45 Average Damage
So it seems like the sacrifice being made for the 6%-8% IAS used for DPS is: Decent vitality roll, and high AR, as well as low increased damage roll. That is the more passive less aggressive route. The other option to balance the lost IAS with 50 Dex + Good Average damage roll, and compared to a high IAS roll, also gain some vitality on it too. Hmm.

Helm: Andarial's Visage. 150+ dex, 8% AS, 4.5% crit can be bought for around 50k gold. no socket though.
Belt: Inna's favor gives you 1% crit and the 130 dex 2 bonus with your pants adds a bit to your dex.
2 piece natalya's adds an awesome 7% crit bonus. Go for chest(natalya's embrace) and boots (natalya's bloody footprints).
Those are the quickest and cheapest upgrades from rares to legendaries. Your rares are pretty decent so you are not in a hurry to get yourself any legendaries besides those mentioned.
When you are done with these upgrades I would look into getting a new weapon and rings.

get a dead man's legacy with elemental arrow (or whatever skill mod you want) for a free 170+ VIT and bonus to edps. should cost you less than 200k

Made a new build on my demon hunter after collecting and finding some new gear. I would call it more a farm build as I haven't messed around in PvP with it yet.
Just looking to share and see if anyone has done something similar. Open to suggestions.
So the build is centered around Strafe and pretty much being able to use it indefinitely.
Skills right now, but been trying out a few different things: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/demon-hunter#WShlXg!bXe!YYZaZa
Left click - Bola shot with bitter pill for extra disc gain. Right click - Strafe with rocket storm for added damage, been trying out different runes with different passives here not sure what to use yet. I want to use the knife one because it sounds like the most damage with high crit which I have, but I used it and found it not doing bonus damage or at least the numbers seemed off. 1 - Companion with bat for hatred regen 2 - Rain of vengeance with dark cloud, I'm trying to find a good skill to fit here. I would like a damaging ability that doesn't cost much, but there are not many options. I have used prep with punishment rune for near infinite hatred, but found I don't need it with my current build and considering I fire a bola shot here or there. 3 - Smoke screen with lingering fog for survivability 4 - Shadow power with nightbane for hatred regen while in strafe
Passives: Archery for extra damage Night Stalker for extra disc on crits which I get often Vengeance for the extra hatred and life orb bonus keeps my hatred and disc up
This whole build works out mainly because I am using a legacy nats set so I have insane disc regen from the set bonus, Night stalker passive, vengeance life orb pickup and bola shot bitter pill procs. If I play it right I can keep up shadow power almost at all times and smoke screen whenever needed.
I have noticed a few cool things with the build so far. I have a nice chance to fear on hit roll on the legacy nats helm I have at 5% and because strafe hits so many targets it fears enemies pretty often. I also have a stone of jordan with cold damage I would like to use because it snares all enemies I hit with strafe which is awesome I have to say. It also adds more disc which only makes the build more powerful. I don't use it right now because I want the bonus xp and damage I am gaining from my hellfire, but plan to change to using the soj once I don't need it anymore.
I have tried some other fun skills changes with fun results. Using Tactical advantage passive instead of vengeance and then using the drifting shadow rune on strafe allows you to smoke screen and go SUPER fast strafing invincibility which is fun. I also mentioned using preparation skill with punishment that lets you spend 25 disc for full hatred. This lets me strafe with almost no end if played right. The goal here though is getting a large disc pool.
One ideal piece of gear I still need is a legacy nats chest with ideally +8 or more to discipline. Right now my disc pool is at i think 39 just from my +9 on quiver. Having my pool at at least 47 would be amazing and I might try using the perfectionist passive.
Any thoughts? I'll try to remember to upload a link to the char when bnet is up.

since i am personally not fond of either ball lightning nor strafe, i am gearing towards a pure multishot build for low MP farming. contrary to advice even myself obeyed not too long ago i am not looking for a high minimum damage 2h-crossbow but instead rely on a 2 socket manticore in combination with an effective crit chance of 85–90%. my bnet-profile for reference: http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/zuqbu-2361/hero/56830
since regular crit chance is expensive to improve beyond 60% and even caps at 75%, this is only possible with the bonus attribute you can get on quivers and a few legendary items. while my dead man's is nothing out of the ordinary i feel quite lucky about the mara's and skull grasp, and haven't seen similar rolled items on the AH since buying them.
yesterday i snatched a stone of jordan for 325.000 gold, and i am in a bit of a luxury dilemma right now if should use it instead of the nat's reflection that served me well for months.
while stat sheet dps favors the nat's ring, the actual benefits aren't that big, and the SoJ can even outperform the vastly more expensive set ring. stat rundown:
• 84 dex and 6% elemental damage give me roughly the same DPS boost (+/- ~1k dps)
• life regeneration isn't important for me, if my life is below 50% i pop gloom, shoot once and i am back to full life in an instant.
• magic find doesn't matter, i'm paragon level 95 soon and can gap the last 15% with my follower.
• attack speed is unimportant for me, my focus is damage per hatred spent.
• crit chance is in favor of the SoJ, as i use multishot 99% of the time spent shooting.
• average damage is nice to have, but not that important. (33 min dmg calculate as ~3400 dps for me)
• discipline: while the SoJ provides a straight bonus, with my current gear the nat unlocks the 4-set bonus. but since i have +disc on my quiver and cloak as well the difference is 60 disc total for the SoJ compared to 70 total for the nat. while 70 is nice, 60 and vengeance (which is mandatory for my build) is more than enough to vault around forever and have a gloom ready when needed. thinking ahead, while nat's 2-set is mandatory, the 3-set bonus isn't that good. if i am not aiming for the 4-set bonus, i could perhaps change the helmet for something different and better since nat's sight with high crit chance and high dex is so expensive.
• bonus to elites: while not visible on the character sheet, this is no doubt a fantastic stat. to explain my build and setup again: the goal is to one-shot trash with a crit (currently working perfectly on MP1 with both rings) and the only thing that needs more than one shot are elites. since diablo3 doesn't display the effect, i used d3up, once with the character sheet dps, once with a bit of cheating to display my actual crit chance from the bonus attribute:
that's a >70.000 dps bonus against elites with multishot. it's so significant, that you can feel it improving your run time, no stopwatch needed.
so my question is: am i missing something? did i get lucky on that SoJ or is the item so vastly underrated? should i keep my nat's reflection?

So I quit D3 back before they nerfed Inferno difficulty and Barbs had just started getting the gear to solo Act 2 Inferno.
I'm interested in getting back into the game but my gear is REALLY bad and I'm REALLY poor. I have a 1034 Blue quality 2h Crossbow, +37% Aspd, and 1333 total Dex (My Torso slot is actually empty).
Where should I start playing to get back in? What should I be doing?

Heh, well I'm just going A3 MP0 so the only things can kill me if I'm dumb are sappers and a fast horde pack of things that break thru walls. Since it took me forever to figure out what they are called (Demonic Tremors), here is their profile! hehe + Show Spoiler + With the life steal on the bow and gloom + s.cloud, I just face tank ever pack until they die. I like the gameplay so far with strafe. Makes me feel less annoyed that I will never roll trifecta anything so using builds that don't want IAS like TR and strafe = win!
But yea, I'm spending all my tomes and demonic essences on crafting shoulders as I grind. Trying to get one with dex/vit/ar/mf/pickup.

Keep in mind that image was from the D3 patch 1.0 strategy guide, and only for the normal mob. The affix combo of Demonic Tremors I usually have trouble with are the horde (many minions) fast and some Reflect/shielding/plague/molten combo.
On March 26 2013 06:13 andrewlt wrote: Roughly how many crafts did it take you to make those amulet, gloves and bracers?
I did bracers - amulet - gloves - shoulders crafting order. Bracers are the cheapest and least # of modifiers to roll. As for luck, bracers took me ~30, amulet on my monk ~50, amulet on DH ~30, Gloves ~40, and Shoulders so far around 50 -_-
Tried some VotA MP1 on the DH and ouch... the pain of crappy EHP is pretty noticeable between mp0 a3 and mp1 Vota. Prolly have to spend quite a bit of gold to get parts with AR, so will likely just grind away until I can drop the gear with MF and get some more EHP.

Ok I haven't played in a long time, 5-6 months, and I have a few quick questions, I've read this topic and googled some stuff but I've found conflicting information as they are spread around different patches and vary, to keep it brief: 1. How to farm mobs to be good all around, xp, loot, demonic essence ? Low MP0-1 as fast as I can, or highest MP possible without dying (in a reasonable time ofc) 2. Go where? A3 fast runs? Play the game from A2 to A4? Does it even matter ? 3. Crafting materials from AH or salvage every single yellow ? Is the $$ difference worth the time spent doing it ? 4. Best skills for group play with CM Wizzard? Bolla shot, explo trap aoe spam ? 5. Did I piss You off with my questions?

Hi! I don't really know where to go next with upgrades. I'd like more DPS but it feels like it is horribly expensive to get any sort of improvement. http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/profile/dastrike-2280/hero/1847494 I like the +20 max discipline from the 4-piece nat set, and also the life steal I have on the weapon, so I'd rather not get rid of those unless there is a really good motivation for doing so.
