Confessional booths in StarCraft tournaments?

Idk if anyone is watching Chess Norway 2024 but the tournament has "confessionals" players can visit throughout their games and basically speak about how the match is going and give their thoughts. In StarCraft, players could visit these booths in between their games in a series if they take a break or afterwards and share their thoughts. Interesting idea?

I’d dig it, hell even more in-depth interviews with players and a proper sit down more regularly would be nice

Im guessing the same ppl would go there again and again, but I like it. Better hear thoughts from ones who actually feel inspired to talk

Hikaru really likes it. He spent about 90min in total there. 2nd was Magnus with 17min. 5th or 6th person only talked ~3min long.

Hikaru's efficiency at talking is insance.

I enjoy the "players explainer their own matches" kind of content as well, and I'd like to see more of it.

BTW there's already some pretty good versions of it, like PiG and Serral talking through his IEM Katowice Finals, or Lambo explaining his entire NeXT 2nd place run. While the Serral video got decent views, I think something like the Lambo video (which is excellent quality and some of the best SC2 content I've watched) not even getting 10k views suggests that this kind of stuff might not necessarily be worth the effort for everyone to put together (there's a reason why the popular content we have right now is popular).

AdministratorHey HP can you redo everything youve ever done because i have a small complaint?

I think part of why this content may not get as many views is that the live-tournament confession booth
1) runs concurrently with the tournament - some viewers are already there.
2) as the name suggests, is more emotive and has that little element of the scandalous. Hearing Serral say "I can't believe he actually tried that" 10 minutes after a game when he's just come off stage has much more draw than hearing the watered down calm version a week later.

Progamers/athletes are notorious for giving awful interviews mid/post match They either feel like shit and make it clear they want to leave or they are so overcome with emotion and adrenaline that they cannot form complex sentences. StarCraft II is an absurdly difficult game and the "week later" version is more informative. If you want detailed explanations, you're better off waiting.

If you want players to magically transform into a more entertaining, polarized version of themselves when asked questions, that isn't happening. As much as some people would love the drama, you're won't hear Serral shouting "SHIT ON!" like they do in call of duty.

This reminds me of the FPS pros scenes such as Halo where you can see the teams come on stage full of adrenaline and probably adderall try to look like human beings in front of the crowd

I follow chess and love the confessional booth in Norway Chess but there’s a reason that Hikaru is among the very few who use it to any real effect. Still I think you’re right that it would be good to have more player-centric content. GSL does a good job with their Patreon vids, but I think HSC as a whole is maybe the best example of this.

Really good idea. Always loved the old "Masters Game" chess program format that BBC used to run in the 80s, where we saw and followed the game from both player's perspective (they made comments when it was their move). Or Bas Rutten's old Pancrase fights that he made comments on on YT.

Doubt it will ever be implemented anywhere in e-sports though.

A player was dropped from his team in the Call of Duty League because he was too adderaled out during a post game interview.

That's a fair point.
As with the chess tournament, I'd only expect a few players to make it interesting (I expect Solar and Reynor could have some fun things to say) - but even one or two is enough. I think the interview issues you mention may also be slightly mitigated in lower stakes tournaments, for whatever that's worth.
