A bit on BitByBit
Every legend has a beginning…
Introduction
Once a player disappears from the scene, we often forget about him after a few months. There must be dozens of such players that I can’t remember off the top of my head today. Nevertheless, many of us still remember BitByBit whose last recorded match was more than 2 years ago. Why? What is so special about him? What makes him one of the most memorable players in WoL despite being irrelevant today with no major achievement? It is definitely not because of his awesome skill or personality, but rather because of his playstyle and dedication to it. BitByBit pulled his SCVs so many times in his games that his name has become a byword for SCV all-ins. People yell his glorious name in LR threads when a player pulls his SCVs to the batte. His legacy lives on today for certain. Now that the end of WoL era is right around the corner, this must be the best time to appreciate this true legend in WoL. Let’s look a bit(?) into BitByBit.
VODs
+ Show Spoiler +
I highly recommend watching these free VODs first if you want to enjoy BitByBit games by yourself. Otherwise, this thread might spoil the enjoyment by revealing everything about his games and entertaining commentaries by Tastosis. It takes 2h12min to watch all VODs or 1h12min if you only watch games and skip intro/interview. Fortunately, games are fairly short for an obvious reason.

Statistics
+ Show Spoiler +
Tournaments: 2010 GSL Open Season 3, 2011 GSL January Code A
Achievements: Open Season Ro16, Code A Ro32
Prize Money Winnings: 2,200,000 KRW (1,958 USD) [1000 KRW= 0.89 USD]
Opponents: HayprO, NewDawn, FruitDealer, Moon
Total Games Played: 9 (excluding games in qualifiers off air)
TvT = 0
TvZ = 9
TvP = 0
Win-Loss: 5-4 (56%)
Game Length (in Blizzard Second):
Shortest = 7min21sec (G1 vs NewDawn)
Longest = 16min48sec (G2 vs NewDawn)
Average = 11min22sec
Opening Builds:
Gasless 2+ rax marine/SCV all-in = 5 games
Gas based all-in = 4 games
Spawning Location
2-player map = 6 games
4-player map Close position = 3 games
4-player map Close air position = 0 games
4-player map Cross position = 0 games
BitByBit has this unique ability to always spawn at close position so that his SCV all-in becomes extra powerful with shorter travel time.
Total Units:
SCV&marine = probably around 200~250 each. There are too many to count from VODs without replays.
Marauder = 26
Hellion = 13
Siege Tank = 7
Banshee = 15
Medivac = 14
Viking = 5
Raven = 2
To some people’s surprise, BitByBit did make units other than SCV&marine. To be precise, his signature move was SCV all-in, not necessarily marine/SCV all-in.
Total Structures:
Supply Depot = many
Refinery =12
Command Center = 2
Barracks = 34
Factory = 5
Starport = 7
Engineering Bay = 3
Armory = 1
Bunker = 5
Missile Turret = 6
To some people’s surprise again, BitByBit expanded twice in 9 games. (both on Jungle Basin)
Total Researches:
Combat Shield = 4
Stimpack = 4
Siege Tech = 1
Cloaking Field = 4
Infantry Weapons Lv1 = 1
Infantry Weapons Lv2 = 1
Infantry Armor Lv1 = 1
Infantry Armor Lv2 = 1
Aside from SCV/marine, cloaked banshee was BitByBit’s favorite. Cheeeesy.
SCV Pulls:
# of games where SCV pull was performed = 8 games (G2 vs Moon is the only exception)
# of SCV pulls = 11 (pulled twice in G2 vs NewDawn and G1&G3 vs Moon)
# of SCV pulls per game = 11/9 = 1.2 (more than one SCV pull on average!)
# of SCVs pulled = 164 SCVs
# of SCVs pulled per game = 164/9 = 18.2 SCVs
# of SCVs pulled per pull = 164/11 = 14.9 SCVs
BitByBit performed “bitbybit” 11 times in 9 games. No other player in history has more SCV pulls than total games played. BitByBit was 100% committed to his strategy. If he had survived longer, I’m sure he would have pulled SCVs in G2 vs Moon as well.
Tastosis Quotes
+ Show Spoiler +
You might want to watch VODs first before reading this section. You’ve been warned. During their casts, Tasteless was more modest, but Artosis was on fire.
He does nothing bit by bit. He does everything all the way.
-Artosis @ 4th SCV all-in (G2 vs NewDawn)
[…] BitByBitPrime has one strat. That’s sending all your SCVs to kill your opponent.
-Artosis @ 5th SCV all-in (G2 vs NewDawn)
Here come all his SCVs because he is BitByBitPrime, and he wouldn’t be if he wasn’t all-inning.
-Artosis @ 6th SCV all-in (G1 vs FruitDealer)
Over here in the bottom left, we have the all-in master himself.
-Tasteless @ player introduction (G2 vs FruitDealer)
It is a gas based all-in.
-Artosis @ just by seeing standard 13 gas as opening (G2 vs FruitDealer)
This guy thinks SCVs are actually attacking units.
-Tasteless @ 7th SCV all-in (G2 vs FruitDealer)
The cheesiest human being on earth.
-Artosis @ player introduction (G1 vs Moon)
Here come the SCVs. Not as if those are actually needed right now, but he’s bringing them anyways.
-Artosis @ 9th SCV all-in despite having a massive lead (G1 vs Moon)
Now, don’t be tricked if he makes command center, everybody. If he makes command center, it’s probably just to make a few more SCVs, get those SCVs in the battle with the marines.
-Artosis @ predicting builds (G2 vs Moon)
[…] BitByBitPrime, the cheesiest all-in player we have ever seen in any game anywhere.
-Artosis @ right before his elimination from GSL (G3 vs Moon)
If he was actually any good, he would have won.
-Artosis @ trying not to offend people on the internet (G3 vs Moon)
You can’t just marine SCV all-in.
-Tasteless @ reflecting on his GSL runs (G3 vs Moon)
Artosis Puns
+ Show Spoiler +
Artosis also made some clever(?) puns. Tasteless responded to some, but ignored or didn’t notice others, which made them awkward.
He gets better bit by bit?
-Artosis @ hearing his ID for the first time (G1 vs HayprO)
Primes are being eliminated bit by bit.
-Artosis @ not a lot of Prime players are left in the tournament (G1 vs NewDawn)
Zerg vs Zerg is pretty crazy. Bit by bit, though, it gets more figured out.
-Artosis @ on ZvZ metagame (G1 vs FruitDealer)
What’s up, BitByBitPrime. FruitDealer peeling you back like an orange, bit by bit.
-Artosis @ a scouting zergling inside Terran base (G2 vs FruitDealer)
Metalopolis, Jungle Basin and Lost Temple. These maps will favor BitByBitPrime a bit.
-Artosis @ map pool (G1 vs Moon)

Final Thoughts
+ Show Spoiler +
Make sure to check BitByBit Fan Club page, too. It is simpler with more pictures there. Originally, I was going to include everything in the fan club page, but then I realized that some contents here weren’t suitable for a fan club page. So, I decided to make this separate thread on BitByBit. In spite of my recommendation, probably many readers here havn’t watched the VODs yet. You have more than 1 week before HotS come out, and these VODs(free HQ) are only as long as 1 movie. Why not, then? Yes, games are kind of terrible in today’s standard, yet quality entertainment right there. Also, I have a few articles I’m almost ready to publish before HotS (hopefully). Look forward to these as well. Thank you for reading. Please leave comments. Your feedback is always my motivation
