To be honest, it is a little hard to follow all that is going on with HotS, I think mainly it has to do with Blizzards desire to get balance of the new units under control, and Battle.Net improved. I have read that people feel Blizzards community support for SC2 lacks compared to WoW and other properties. I have to agree, I mean they do make announcements, but seems the “independent” community voices are so much stronger and their opinions seem to carry a lot more weight. Which is a good thing, but can be confusing for a casual like me.
I have heard from the casting community they want better casting controls and customization options. From the map making community they want their maps to be able to have people queue up for them easier. From the players they want to nerf other races (as usual) and that the Pro’s feel “x” race is IMBA. From the casuals more game options (Thank god Mono-battles! is going to be added as a custom game type, and custom AI with build orders.)
We saw the kickoff of Barcraft but not much follow-through, and now that most gaming consoles are getting Internet applications, there is hope that we can stream to out TV’s without having to hookup our PC’s.
There are a number of nay-sayers that are predicting that SC2 is in decline due to how fast DotA and LoL is adapting to the eSports driven content. I say that might be true, but probably not. My optimism is rooted in my understanding how tension makes for better products. I think the state of the game has just the right amount of tension to hold my attention, then again I am a casual, I feel for some of the pros who have to make a living in such “interesting times”.
As the Chinese proverb states. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_you_live_in_interesting_times
I say to the SC2 Community in general, “May you live in interesting times.”
"May you come to the attention of those in authority" – I say this to those who wish to become SC2 Pros and influence the game.
and for the casuals and semi-casual players "May you find what you are looking for."
Peace
