Hm for me...I've been on the news in 2nd grade I think, reporters interviewing us and our teachers and we showed them our hermit crabs. I've also been in my local newspaper once for being part of a research program during the summer of one of my high school years. Got an article for working in a biochem lab at UC Davis and was really surprised when school started again because apparently some of my teachers actually read our town's newspaper, which is really small. Also have performed at Carnegie Hall as part of a music competition/festival thing. I think I actually may have more completely random small moments of fame actually, but those are three I can remember. As always, great job and enjoyable read Maybe break up more paragraphs, sometimes it hurts my weak little eyes ;__; but otherwise of course amazing blog again!

"They don't realize that there are BILLIONS of people in the world and that the likelihood of them becoming a celebrity is about the likelihood of a mobile home burning to the ground because a menorah tipped over inside." loooool

Nope, but close! I'm in Norcal, somewhere between the east bay and the bay area (no big cities where I live per se, but San Francisco is a 30-minute drive without too much traffic.

You can actually play that game competitively? Wouldn't the person with the best pokemon always win? Or is it balanced... Also...when you say something like "My Squirtle BUBBLEBLASTED your ass!" How do you know how powerful the bubbleblast was?

Basically, yes, it's balanced. You get tiers of pokemon called Ubers, Overused, Borderline, Underused, and Not Used in order of power. And each pokemon's inherent abilities, moves it can learn, effectiveness against other pokemon etc, creates a competitive environment with a metagame and everything. Also noticed you semi advertising this blog entry. If it was supposed to be meta for "forcefully making yourself famous" in a way, GG

For shame modern civilization, for shame! You understand. I would kill myself if I didn't think it was a small percentage of the people. Maybe one day I will make a difference.

So each pokemon has base stats and you can also increase each pokemon's stats by training it by defeating certain pokemon--these trained stats are called EVs, or earned values. Each pokemon has a set amount of EVs (for example, for attack) which it gives upon being beaten. It's sort of complicated to explain in one go, but it's not too bad. There are also IVs, for inherent values, I think, which are random for each pokemon and also boost stats essentially. Basically, yes, it's balanced. For me, I ended up being the first person in my country to repolymerize non-distilled, depolymerized polytetrafluoroethylene as a research project during my final year of engineering at university. Took months and months of work. Sadly I'll never really get credit for it since I was working under a lecturer's supervision (something to do with a contract I signed when applying for varsity), but I still feel good about it :D
