I was under the impression that this community (Starcraft players in general, not TL), was one of the most mature gaming communities around. I never actually played the game much but I've watched my fair share of streams and tournaments since 2008. This week I figured I'd try and get back into it and actually learn it. I've been playing for 3 days.
In 3 days I got 6pooled 5 times, I had 2 guys float their buildings to the corners of the map, a Zerg building Geysers everywhere and the countless desperation DTs and DTs rush.
Having to chase people around isn't fun at all, I really can't take being disrespected in game like that, every time it happens I get so mad that I absolutely cannot play anymore. It ruins my entire day and destroy my mood.
The game is alright, only if it wasn't for the damn people that play it! I understand that as you get to top8 Master, things must start to get better but I'm not there yet and I think I'll just give up, 60% of the games I played so far were against BM players and that wasn't fun at all. Too bad because I wanted to play this game...
tl;dr: Fuck you BM and disrespectful players, you have won.

Why did you group people going for a 6 pool with people doing stupid and pointless things with the sole reason of prolonging the game without any chance of winning? 6 pool is a legitimate strategy, at least against zerg and protoss.
|
If you thought the sc2 community was mature, you've obviously never been to reddit.
But yeah, it can be incredibly frustrating to deal with people. Especially ones that will not leave when you beat them. Warcraft 3 was worse about that though.

To me it's the same, it serves no purpose other than scoring a cheap/free win. What's the point of that under than to piss off the opponent ? There is none.

Sounds like you need a negative ion generator.

Two things I have to say/ask: 1. What division are you? You say you have played for 3 days, so I'm assuming that you are pretty low bronze (I didn't win a game for like 2 weeks because I never played an RTS before lol) 2. It is the end of the season. People are cheesing the living shit out of ladder in hopes of receiving a promotion. I am playing top 8 masters right now, and literally 100% of my ZvT involves a 2 rax of some sort.

I am Top Plat, mostly playing Diamonds (I don't know much about the ranking system so I don't really know what that means other than I'm really terrible and so have been all of my opponents except one so far). I have played a couple of games before, but never got serious about it, this week I did try to get serious but no way I'm going to keep playing in these conditions.
You think it could be because of the end of the season ?

the perks of playing a very popular game with people from all walks of life dabbling in it :-)

The point of scoring a cheap/free win is to get a cheap/free win...don't know why you think people are doing that to spite you. Contrary to what you may believe, people can get self-satisfaction at getting fast and easy wins. Also don't know why you would think that only well mannered people choose to play Starcraft. Anyone can play the game so of course you're going to get the bad with the good. Just something you have to learn to deal with =/

Grow a backbone like a man you whine like a kid.

As the saying goes, if you can't take the heat....
First of all, you're playing at the end of a season. A lot of people cheese their bonus pools away to get higher rankings. You're going to hit more cheese than usual until about the second week of the new season.
Second, cheesy strategies are not disrespectful. Try not to become a player that believes straight-up macro games are somehow honorable and respectful as opposed to cheese. What's disrespectful and BM is if the player lost they don't leave the game. You're going to get people like this. You will also get BM'ers who cuss you out the whole time (or when you win). As you get better you have people complaining about perceived imbalances or the notorious "bg".
Third, top 8 masters play against cheese all the time. The only difference is that the cheese is REALLY well executed. In fact there was a guy who posted here a while back showing how he made NA GM doing nothing but six-pooling. Pro's cheese all the time as well, just watch the streams!
Don't get me wrong, SC2 isn't like CS where 14-year-olds cuss you out with every profanity imaginable, but there are a lot of immature idiots, trolls, and jack-holes who will try and ruin the game for you. Focus on improving every game - even if they 6pool'd you!

I'm also top plat and play against a lot of crap. In my last 5 ZvP's I was 6 gate all-in'd three times and 2 gate/canon rushed once. Almost every ZvZ is against some sort of 14/14 baneling all-in. Strangely enough the terrans are playing most standard, but there's still the occassional 1/1/1 and marauder/hellion all-in.
I lose to a lot of crap all the time, too. Breath, relax, review the replay and see what you could have done better.

A mature community doesn't mean that no one does these kinds of shenanigans. It just means that we don't get overly bothered by it.

Stupid response. You'd probably get beat up by this guy in real life, and learn to use punctuation.
People are incredibly dumb on ladder, I agree OP. Just ignore it. Taking things personally is the first step to failing at Starcraft.

Oh, I like that, you went all deep on me. Good stuff.
Yeah... I got anger management issues, definitely.
I'll probably get over it and keep on playing, because hey, I get addicted to stuff... But if you ever hear of a kid with an esports shirt jumping off a building after getting 6pooled, that'll be me.

a) learn to defend it b) try to ignore them

Yes. At the end of the season people are desperate to spend all of their bonus pool and get as many points as possible to set themselves up for promotion as soon as possible. I think 5 or so days after the new season starts the cheese lessens.
On the topic of cheese as a legitimate strategy, it is. It's an early timing attack with no follow up, but it's still a legitimate strategy and you should know how to scout for it as well as stop it. Cheese for the most part relies on not being scouted or prepared for, and this is why people don't just always do it -- once you know how to stop it it won't work. You'll encounter people who are like "I love it when people 6 pool me!" because they know how to look for it and prepare for it, and once you do the same it won't bother you anymore, but rather you'd be like "yes! free win!", beat it in 5 minutes, and move on to the next game.

The blame for this is not on the TL community as a whole, the blame for this is the new SC2 fans. Blizz made a much simpler game to attract a more broad public instead of just BW players, and it succeeded to obtain former Halo and the like players. These people are huge BM'ers, don't see a point in "gg'ing" cuz they think idra is "cool" and gl hf is pointless to them. Bw and SC1 had their BM'ers but nowhere near these many, I played both Vanilla and BW for 12 years and I never found too many of this kind.
What you need to do is just stick to your game if you like it if that is what you want and ignore these people, I always GG and GL HF and doesnt bother me 90% of the time these people dont say it back or even call me a retard for doing so. I grew up playing BW more than any other game, so i absorbed a lot of the "sportsmanship" all the korean players brought into the game.

By comparison to other communities (say CoD or DotA) the Starcraft community is fairly mature; that being said, there are plenty of assholes because this is a fairly popular game, bigger audiences typically results in there being more jerks. Though seeing as how the ladder matches you up against people who have similar mmr (read: skill), how manner your opponents are can vary almost randomly, especially the lower you are in leagues, because the player pool is larger the further down you go, so most people have an anecdotal view of how manner people are--myself as a diamond player, the people I run into are usually pretty tame; I rarely run into people who are jerks or do stupid shit like pointlessly prolonging games because they are angry--most of the opponents I fight either: don't say anything, or do the old gl hf, followed by a gg at the end.

hey bro i told a stranger to look after my bag and he stole my bag
fucking humans
come on now, stop being a baby and stop overgeneralising.
1. you're in the cesspool known as low level sc2( to be honest this doesn't ever get better)
2. you're being illogical. if a player wants to do everything in his power to win, is it HIS fault for wanting to win? it's a competition. if you have a base race and the z player has a chance do you want him to stop playing and give you a win? if you play any game players will do everything they can to do the least amount of work to win the most, and in sc2 those strats are 6pool/dt rush.
