Define Your Community
A new Project to provide for the community a permanent and more collective repository for Starcraft content.
A week ago I was enjoying my visit to Wikipedia but when I started to actually write some information about Starcraft gaming, I noticed that it is very difficult to do so because since Starcraft gaming terms are not known very well to a large portion of the world, Wikipedia requires a ridiculously large amount of citation which leaves something to be desired.
It got me wondering about Wikipedia itself and how and who managed it, plus how it could apply better to the StarCraft community at large. It also made me realize that the community, from a content and information perspective, lacks continuity sometimes. How many good pages with decent content have disappeared? How many good forums have evaporated? How many times a key person quits the game, and a whole website is deleted?
Many of us know how powerful the, now extinct, Broodwar.com was, or similar equivalent website today, TeamLiquid and its forums are today. Why? Who made them so succesful? Us. It is we, who contribute the most to any forum or StarCraft site. We the StarCraft fans, the members. Name any dynamic great StarCraft site, and it will always be the regular Starcraft member, that collectively, left the most, but when the domain goes, so does the content and work.
So I put two and two together and thought: Hey, we need a Starcraft Gaming Wiki.
Now, I did my bit of research and found that there was indeed a Starcraft Wiki that was in development at some point in time. However, this Wiki was about Starcraft itself; storyline, characters, gameplay, units, etc... The one I envisioned was about Starcraft gaming; about progamers, maps, matches matchup strategies, amateur players, websites, VODs, BGMs, etc...
Without further ado, I'd like to hand over to you the Starcraft Gaming Wiki.
Why hand over? Because it is YOURS. You define terms, you edit, you write up articles. This does not belong to PGTour, it belongs to the entire Starcraft community. Of course we'll have some organization (read the getting started pages) but as is Wikipedia, this will be open to everyone. So next time you are dying to post some information about Starcraft, look no further.
It is a more applicable and permanent place than even a message board. How long will it last? Ten years, already paid for. When times comes, if this game is still around the torch will be passed on.

Hopefully you can make a page that non-Starcraft players can enjoy as well.

great idea, I think you can add league histories from this page http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/articles.php
Question: is this part of pgtour.net or wikipedia.org? xxx.yyy.net is part of yyy.net right? but I saw wiki editing page (tools) in it

it is hosted by pgtour, domain and hosting is guaranteed for 10 years upfront. It is not part of wikepedia.org (nor is it really a pgtour project in staff and contenr, only hosting.) Some of us will transfer most of StarCraft wikipedia's conent, particularly older material before it was raped.

Don't worry too much Endurace will recover it.

Nono, you need not worry. I simply clicked the date at the bottom of the index page, and then clicked the earliest date of the page. I then clicked "Re-edit this revision" and clicked "save." Bam! All back to normal. Anyone can do it too! ^^

How do we give our input about the interface? I LOVE the idea, however I need to make several suggestions.

take a look at http://www.sleepyshat.org
thats a good example of a community using wikipedia, i dont really like the design pgt have so far.

How do I add stuff after regsitering?
|
well keep in mind it's really new. the more time i spend here though the more exciting it seems. LOTS of potential.
you can add articles by going to http://wiki.pgtour.net/articletitle in order to create an entry for articletitle. I would think that soon an "add entry" button will be added, though.

O I know, I should draw out a hierarchal pyramid with gosugamers.net at the bottom, sclegacy.com ontop, teamliquid.net above it, and the top korean sites at the tippy top with some sort of comical picture to go along with all of them :D! Waita minute that would be discriminatory nvm I waste space this post rarara.

I noticed that there seems to be an inconsistency with the "proper Romanization" of the names of pro gamers. I don't have Korean text enabled here atm, but the proper romanization for the -| sound ("uh" ) is "eo". Oov's name is properly romanized Choi Yeon-Seong in that case, however you have it written as Choi Yeon-Sung as the proper romanization. In Romanization, the vowel "u" indicates the "oo" sound ( T looking character in Korean alphabet).
Just something to consider if you're looking to uphold the same quality and accurate standards that wiki upholds (I know you're not directly affiliated with them). Thanks for the site though, will come in handy.
edit: NaDa's is correct, Reach's is incorrect as it should be Park Jeong-Seok. I know it looks ugly and I prefer writing Jung-Suk myself when referring to him, but I suppose in the end it's all up to what you want, the socially accepted romanization of their names or the proper ones.
