I'm utterly baffled and confused by this....
Dictionary.com definition Dictionary.com definition #2
Let's analyze this a bit, shall we?
Link #1, clearly states that those 2 words create "a club enthusiastically devoted to a movie star or other celebrity or to a sports team."
But Link #2? That word doesn't exist.....
But what the heck is going on here? http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/index.php?show_part=56
If you look closely, it's like 75% of all fan club thread titles are titled by that singular word "fanclub," while only 25% of the other threads have the proper titling, "fan club".
I just got to know, how the heck did this happen? I'm also not one to talk, I created SlayerS_Brown's fan club but I used the compound word "fanclub"
WTF?!
I have theories:
- the first person to have ever created a fan club thread on TL used the word "fanclub" and no one noticed the error when they decided to create fan clubs as well
- "fanclub" IS a word, and dictionary.com doesn't know what its talking about
- There is a whole "Take over the American language by adding another word" rebellion going out there and soon, we will see the word "fanclub" in our freakin dreams
- Alien invasion. Dem UFO sightings may just be true
- It was just an honest mistake that people looked over
IMHO, I am suspecting #3 and #4 to be the most likely Errr...... #1 or #5 to be most likely.
Meh..... probably not blog worthy but thx for reading guys
Let's conclude with a poll shall we?
Poll: What do u think?DISASTER! ALERT THE TL STAFF! THIS TRAVESTY CANNOT GO UNNOTICED! (21) 36% Thx for wasting my time Seeker (12) 20% Dem UFOs dude..... Opened a Seeker blog, not sure why I expected anything different.
It's probably just people copied the first fan club ( which was the first fan club ever made btw? ) title and didn't notice the mistake.

better to check it on oxford dictionary I do think there is no such word as fanclub, it should be fan club

In many other languages, you can combine words in that way. Maybe, not everyone knows that "fan" and "club" should be divided. I know that, in swedish, I would write the two words as one. Such things are hard to correct when switching language.

No just that it would be about something silly.

Did you check for the hyphenated fan-club?
Also blame the mods, they're the ones that edited the titles.

I think this could potentially be the biggest scandal in TL history, don't you?

I'd have expected that the high percentage of Native-Speakers among the active posters would actually prevent that. 75% seems pretty high so I guess a) the native speakers don't really know either or b) they only create very few fan clubs (which makes a lot of sense actually, since a swede is more likely to create a fan club for a swede etc. There really aren't that many British/American top tier players.. )

In english: Fan club In danish: Fanklub
So thats probably why people who speak other languages then english would write it as 1 word.
Get a mod to edit all fan club titles :D

If they are, GOOD GOD! TL IS FAMOUS IN DENMARK!

Really weird, it says I've already voted in this poll, even though I'm 100% sure I didn't. Has this happened to anyone before? Maybe I should post this in website feedback, but it's only a small issue.
