So for awhile now I haven't been playing any SC2 and most of my time has been spent on LoL.
I have been thinking lately if I want to continue playing LoL or return to SC2 and see how I do there. Also haven't been able to find the motivator to continue playing anything really which is where my question is..
How do you continue playing and get to where you are in SC2 or any game?
You shouldn't need "motivation"? SC2 is a game we play for fun, that in itself should be your motivation (its more complex than that, the satisfaction of getting better, etc, but it boils down to that). If you have more fun with LoL and get more satisfaction from it, then there is no good reason to stop playing LoL. If you are going to have fun and enjoy improving in SC2 then play that too.
I completely agree with GMarshal, play what makes you happy, you don't have to feel like you need to keep playing SC2 just to keep up in the community and what not, if you like watching but not playing, thats fine! This applies to all games, good luck with your decision!
Sc2 is the game i always "come back to". Right now, I'm in a 3 month long, Dota 2 kick. Before that, I watched/played SC2 for a few months....then before that, I was on a BF3 kick....then SC2 again...then FA:LV...etc, etc. It's my game bridge. And every game I've played, I've been introduced to by normal SC2 streamers playing said game, lol.
This is your hobby, not your chore. You shouldn't need to find a way to continue to do it, unless the payoff is so great that it's worth the initial dread (such as running a half marathon as a hobby). I don't view SC2 like that, so if you don't find yourself wanting to play it you should probably find something else to spend your time on.
I only play Sc2 at LAN parties (how ironic is that?). The game is more fun with friends. I also went to our first local barcraft the other night, that helped me re-ignite the passion a little too.
Also when I'm slumping I just sing along with this and then BAM no more slump for me
I only play because I want to get better at the game, laddering actually isnt very fun or relaxing for me at all, but practicing with friends is. When i dont have the will to improve then I just dont play, I havnt sat down and played a bunch of ladder games in a couple months now. I usually find myself coming back every so often because I still follow the pro scene and watching great players makes me want to practice more :p
Just play what you enjoy, no reason you cant enjoy both
My motivator is stuff like the PvP I played yesterday where I just 4 gated some guy on taldarim cause wtf else can I do, and I win the game losing only a single stalker, which was killed in the last 5 seconds or so of the game, maybe less.
Totally and completely outplaying my opponent into the ground and making them cry tears of imba. It's pretty fun.
Yeah I defo agree with Chill. If you don't find any enjoyment in this game, don't play it. Heh, it kind of reminds me of the way WoW was for me after a while. You should never really feel guilty/obligated to play a game you don't enjoy.
