A My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic-themed survival server
Minecraft 1.8.8 | PvM / Build | Custom | Classes & Races
Server IP: www.liquestria.net
Features
Minecraft since 1.0.0
Liquestria has a long pedigree. Over the past four years(!), our few but dedicated builders have made our worlds great. From the Valley of the Moon to the Lunar Cathedral, from the eastern Neighpon to the Archipelago University, the years have been kind to our little community. It’s a persistent project available to those of you who want to scratch that particular Minecraft itch in a social environment.
Races & Classes
You can play as one of five visually and mechanically distinctive races in Liquestria — Earth Pony, Unicorn, Pegasus, Zebra, or Griffon. All five offer additional skills and attributes unique to their respective classes on top of the complete vanilla Minecraft experience.
Read the Races & Classes section for more information.
Multiverse
With nine interconnected worlds (and counting), Liquestria always has a variety of projects. From the primary showcase world of Liquestria, to the vast survival freebuild world Everfree, to the cloud world Cirrus, and to the great mountains of the Griffon’s homeland of The Eyrie, this server was built to cater to most of the tastes of our #tlponies community.
Some of the worlds are very recent, and not much love and attention has been given them just yet. They are there as blank slates, a place for people who want to start a new project. Hopefully, we have something for just about everyone.
Uniquely customized
Most of the code that defines our extended classes and races system was written from scratch specifically for Liquestria. Our players come to us with concerns or ideas for abilities and skills, and if at all possible we try to find a way to make those ideas work. This system gets added to all the time, so it’s not uncommon to wake up one morning and discover that you can now move creepers with your mind.
This does mean that we put a greater emphasis on fun than we do on balance. We deemed this to be a justifiable sacrifice if it meant you could throw a giant glowing sphere of energy that explodes into lightning.
Client Mods & Atmosphere
Our optional client pack download improves the server experience greatly. It features optional atmospheric sounds and music, a colourful and vibrant remix of the classic John Smith Legacy resource pack, easy-to-install shaders, and a few client mods which improve server accessibility. There will be several versions of each pack available (with and without music), and you can grab whichever one suits your tastes or needs.
Liquestria is nevertheless fully playable on a vanilla Minecraft client, and we take care to keep ourselves compatible and comparable. We want everyone to be able to connect, regardless of system.
Reliable Server & High Uptime
Our host is a strong German-built machine. Our sysadmin is a strong German-born administrator.
It would be a bit intimidating if they weren’t on our side.
Pic unrelated.
Races & Classes
In Liquestria you play as one of five races: Earth Pony, Unicorn, Pegasus, Zebra, or Griffon. All five can do just about everything you can do in vanilla Minecraft, but they each have their own unique skills and abilities on top of that which offer some interesting quirks and gameplay mechanics.
All of the races have their own traits (Earth Ponies are more hardy and athletic, Pegasi can fly) and their own particular set of abilities (Unicorns can cast various kinds of spells, Griffons are master archers who can launch volleys of arrows).
When you apply to become a member of Liquestria, you are asked to choose between one of the five. You can change your race later until you find one you really like. We would prefer for people to eventually stick with one race, though, so once you have some play time, give it some thought.
Earth Ponies are the workhorses, athletic and strong. They deal more damage and take less damage than the other races, and they can jump longer distances and carry more weight (almost double the normal inventory space). They also have access to a variety of tools, such as the portable workbench and repair block. They can grow and farm apple trees, which provide most of the food for Liquestria.
Their talents are geared towards mining, farming, woodcutting, melee combat, and construction.

Playing as an Earth Pony
Earth Ponies are athletic and strong. They move faster, break blocks faster, and jump higher than the other races, all without needing that fancy schmancy magic or those cheater wings of some ponies we could mention. They are the kings and queens of passive traits, and as a result they are easy and intuitive to play. Have you played vanilla Minecraft? This is that, but crunchier.
Athleticism
Most of the Earth Pony traits are passive, which means they always function without your input. Faster block breaking, faster mining, faster movement, increased underwater breathing — these are all passive skills.
A few of their abilities can be activated and deactivated. For instance, to jump higher, you have to sprint to activate athletic mode. Once done, you can jump far higher and further than normal. To toggle athletic mode off, just crouch and you will return to normal.
Backpack
As an Earth Pony, you have almost double the inventory space of everyone else in the form of a backpack whose contents you cannot lose by dying. This backpack comes equipped with a portable workbench.
Key bindings (if you have downloaded the Liquestria Client Pack):
- B – opens the backpack
- V – opens the workbench
- /b – opens the backpack
- /w – opens the workbench
Item Repair
Earth Ponies can repair items for much cheaper than the other races, and they keep the enchants when they do. Earth Pony blacksmiths are the best in the realm. [NOTE: Repair functionality under repair. We will update this once it’s ready.]
Stonecrafting
Earth Ponies are expert craftsmen, and masters of working with stone. In addition to breaking stone faster than other races, they can carve or chisel stone bricks naturally, letting them create great looking stone structures on the fly.
- Convert Cobblestone -> Mossy cobblestone: Right-click with seeds
- Convert Stone brick -> Mossy stone brick: Right-click with seeds
- Convert Stone brick -> Cracked stone brick: Left-click with flint
- Convert Stone brick -> Chiselled stone brick: Right-click with flint
Apple trees & farming
Earth Ponies are also expert farmers, and they can plant apple trees via the well-known Appleseed plugin. Apples are the most desirable food source in Liquestria, and our farmers work hard to keep us supplied.
To plant an apple tree, you have to till the soil using a hoe, then plant the apple as you would a seed. This will create a planted sapling of an apple tree. If you fertilize it with bonemeal, it will grow into a large apple tree.
The apple trees drop apples over time. After some time has passed, the tree will require further fertilization before it will grow more apples. You can see whether or not a tree is an Apple tree, and whether or not it requires fertilization, by equipping a wood hoe and right clicking on the trunk. If it requires fertilization, fertilize it with more bonemeal.
You can also mark the trees with signs, which will automatically display what type of tree it is, and whether or not it requires fertilizer. Place a sign on the tree, and write [Appleseed] in the top line, like this:
The sign will change to display the tree type (in our case, “apple”). This makes them easy to differentiate from the other trees near your orchard. The sign will also tell you if the tree needs fertilization – note the colour of the text. If it’s green, it’s healthy and dropping items. If it’s red, it requires fertilization in the form of bonemeal.
Unicorns are students of magic. They can learn and cast a wide range of spells, and they can create items and artifacts based on their knowledge and understanding of magic. They begin the game with few spells, but can learn over three dozen — some entertaining but mostly niche, and some that are very useful and powerful. They can command the elements, move items at range, and travel long distances with an effort of will and power. They are commonly called upon to create waypoints and enchanted items.
Their talents are geared towards all things magical.

- [SOON] Craft and enchant powerful artifacts
- Can place blocks from far away
- Can study the art of magic to gain experience
- Draw energy from the environment to fuel spells
- Can use magic to search for precious gems

- [SOON] Enchanting
- [SOON] Archiving
Playing as a Unicorn
Unicorns have access to an incredibly diverse set of skills and spells that lets them explore, fight monsters, construct buildings, and set up all kinds of utilities and assets for other players. They can cast an array of fun and interesting spells, but using them properly requires study and preparation.
While you can play them just fine without spending much time learning how their abilities work, you will need to put in some effort if you want to know and understand everything they are capable of. The initial setup takes a bit of time, and you have to accumulate new spells over time, but for your efforts you are rewarded by being able to empower weapons and tools, teleport across maps and worlds, and launch glowing globes of energy that explode with lightning and burning.
Spellcasting
The main feature of the class is the spellcasting. You start off with seven spells, and can learn over two dozen as of writing, with more being added frequently.
- Click here [coming soon!] for a Spellcasting tutorial
Runecrafting
The second feature of the class is Runecrafting ability. This is a very powerful, but often neglected art due to its unique challenges of preparation and memorization. Runecrafting lets you temporarily imbue incredibly powerful effects onto your tools and items, convert and move large pieces of land, and create and use teleporters.
- Click here [coming soon!] for a Runecrafting tutorial
Enchanting
Unicorns are expert enchanters. They have an easy time getting the levels necessary for enchanting, and they have access to a second, more potent version of the enchanting table which lets them create specific items and artifacts that are more powerful than the standard stock.
The script that fuels this system is unique to our server, and is being rewritten and updated for 1.8. It may take some time before it’s done.
- Click here [coming soon!] for an Enchanting tutorial
Farbuild
Unicorns can “farbuild”. By crouching and right-clicking, they are able to place blocks from up to 7 blocks away, helping them erect walls and fixtures without scaffolding. This is a passive ability and requires no mana.
Mana
Mana is the source of magic, and is expended when you cast spells. Unicorns regenerate mana over time, but they can also draw energy from the environment to do so much more quickly. While holding nothing, click on the ground with the left and right mouse button simultaneously, and stand still for a few seconds while you prepare.
Study of Magic
Unicorns occasionally spend a lot of time enchanting, crafting, and creating assets for other players. To gain the experience necessary to do this, they can study the art of magic. Simply visit any library, town hall, or bookstore that has a study section with magical tomes.
Examine the various bookshelves in the study hall, and then sit down at a table. The more books you grab, the more experience you’ll get. Once you’re at the table, read the books.
Pegasi can fly, which in the world of Minecraft is an incredibly useful ability. They are particularly suited for building constructions in the sky, and have the ability to prevent blocks from falling to the ground as they do so. They can change the weather at will, and even call down a storm that strikes enemies with lightning from above. They make excellent scouts and harvesters of rare materials, substances like clay, pumpkins, and cacti.
Their talents are geared towards mobility and speed, construction, and exploration.
+ Show Spoiler [Pegasus] +
Traits
- Can fly
- [SOON] Zero fall damage
- Weather mastery
- Cloud forging
- Herbivore (Bonus to vegetables and processed food, penalties for eating meat)
Abilities
- Command the weather
- Command lightning bolts
- Create white wool
- Dye placed wool
- Portable glass platform
Playing as a Pegasus
Just take to the skies! Flight is the most generally useful ability in Minecraft, and Pegasi are good at it. Building, exploring, mining, and fighting — Pegasi can do all of it proficiently and safely. If you’ve ever played creative mode, you know what’s up.
Once you get used to the flight controls, start looking at a few of the neat abilities Pegasi get that make their lives simpler. The carpet platform is a big one as it simplifies the construction of sky buildings. And then, once you get bored, you can turn the weather stormy and start throwing lightning bolts — because you are a Pegasus, and that means that you are awesome.
Flight
There are currently two ways to access the power of flight on our server:
- The optional client download pack which includes a fly mod
- In-game creative-style flight using the command /f
- Creative style is available out-of-the-box for normal, unmodded Minecraft clients, whereas the client mod requires a download and installation
- Client mod has two fly speeds (via a button toggle) whereas creative style only has one
- Key bindings are different
- Client mod uses F to engage fly mode, space & shift to ascend & descend, and E to activate speed boost. Keys are customizable, but the mod is in development and is slightly buggy in this regard
- Creative style flight uses already-existing keybindings to function: double jump (jump while in mid-air) to engage fly mode, then jump/crouch to ascend/descend.
- Client mod uses F to engage fly mode, space & shift to ascend & descend, and E to activate speed boost. Keys are customizable, but the mod is in development and is slightly buggy in this regard
- Creative style is way more “floaty” whereas the client mod offers sharp movement and better accuracy
Command Weather
You can change the weather using a /command line:
- /sun
- /storm
Lightning Bolt
Pegasi can call powerful bolts of lightning. They can only do this while outside and during a storm. To summon a bolt of lightning, either use the corresponding key in the optional Macro/Keybind Mod included in the client download, or bind the ability to an item by holding it in your hand and typing /c bind pegasus-lightning. You can then left-click to activate it. We recommend using a non-block item, like sticks, blaze rods, and the like.
Cloud expert
To simulate Pegasi manipulating clouds to make cloud buildings, Pegasi can generate wool. Right-click while holding shears to generate a stack. You can do this every 20 seconds.
Pegasi can also dye placed wool. Hold any dye and right-click a placed wool block to dye it. This consumes 1 dye per block.
To help prevent blocks from falling to the ground (or, in the case of Cirrus, out of the map) when working with constructions in mid-air, Pegasi can spawn a platform of glass under their feet. This platform catches falling blocks, and works as a base on which to place blocks for new constructions in the sky without needing blocks leading up to them. Double-click the crouch button to summon and dismiss your glass platform.
Sonic Rainboom
Legends speak of Pegasi that could fly so fast that they create shockwaves in their wake…
Zebras are mysterious wanderers, druids in command of nature as well as expert alchemists. They can tame animals at will, heal themselves and others, and call upon nature to help them. They have innate magical abilities that lets them cast a variety of nature based spells, and they can search for alchemical ingredients to fuel their brewing abilities. They can grow special tree types rare to Liquestria. They are expert herbalists and are proficient in water and nature magic, making them excellent gardeners and healers.
Their talents are geared towards magic, herbalism, and animal care.

Traits
- Learn and cast spells
- Make and find alchemical ingredients
- [SOON] Tame animals without food
- Draw energy from nature to fuel spells
- Deal poison damage in melee
- [SOON] Slightly reduced damage taken
- [SOON] Slightly increased damage dealt
- Herbivore (Bonus to vegetables and processed food, penalties for eating meat)
Abilities
- Spellcasting
- Alchemy
- [SOON] Plant and grow special types of trees
- [SOON] Unique recipes exclusive to Zebras
- Convert cobblestone and stone brick into mossy equivalents
Playing as a Zebra
Zebras are druids who can cast nature spells and command animals in combat. As with Unicorns, setting up their spells and abilities requires a bit of patience and preparation, but once you’ve put in the effort you are rewarded with a powerful set of abilities.
In combat, Druids work best when they bring a couple of friends. Be they pets or other players, Zebras have a set of healing spells that keeps everyone alive. They have the most powerful AoE spell in the game in Call Lightning, and combined with Entangle and Geyser they have impeccable crowd control, guaranteed to take the edge off while their pets or poisons clean up the rest.
Outside of combat, pick up herbalism and alchemy. You can grow a bunch of special trees and bushes, [SOON] convert blocks between dirt, grass, and mycelium, and you can make any potion in the game with minimal effort. You’re big on buffs, so make use of that.
Spellcasting
Zebras can cast a variety of nature and water spells, from conjuring bolts of lightning to finding precious new water springs.
- Click here [coming soon!] for a Spellcasting tutorial
Alchemy
Zebras are expert brewers and herbalists. They can search for alchemical ingredients anywhere in the Everfree Forest to fuel their potions. Go into the forest and search (right-click while not holding an item) on any flower, grass, or vegetation, and you will spend a few moments searching the area for usable ingredients for your potions. You can do this every 30 seconds.
Potion recipes and tutorials can be found on the wiki: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Brewing
As a result of their alchemical skills, Zebras also poison some enemies on hit. This is a passive effect and doesn’t require any mana or ingredients.
Mana
Mana is the source of magic, and is expended when you cast spells. Zebras regenerate mana over time, but they can also draw energy from the environment to do so much more quickly. While holding nothing, click on the ground with the left and right mouse button simultaneously, and stand still for a few seconds while you prepare.
Stone and moss
As druids, Zebras can turn stones into their mossy equivalents. This costs 1 seed for every block.
- Convert Cobblestone -> Mossy cobblestone: Right-click with seeds
- Convert Stone brick -> Mossy stone brick: Right-click with seeds
Nature
Being expert herbalists and gardeners, Zebras can plant and grow several types of trees.
Special trees
- [Coming soon!]
Fruit trees
Zebras can also plant special, ingredient-dropping trees using the well-known Appleseed plugin. The two trees currently available to Zebras are cocoa trees and golden apple trees.
To plant one, you have to till the soil using a hoe, then plant the ingredient (cocoa or golden apple) as you would a seed. This will create a planted sapling. If you fertilize it with bonemeal, the sapling will grow into a large tree.
A cocoa tree, for example, will drop cocoa beans over time. After some time has passed, the tree will require further fertilization before it will grow and drop more cocoa beans. You can see whether or not a tree is a cocoa tree, and whether or not it requires fertilization, by equipping a wood hoe and right-clicking on the trunk. If it requires fertilization, fertilize it with more bonemeal.
You can also mark the trees with signs, which will automatically display what type of tree it is, and whether or not it requires fertilizer. Place a sign on the tree, and write [Appleseed] in the top line, like this:
The sign will change to display the tree type (in the case of the one in the screenshot, “apple”). This makes them easy to differentiate from the other trees near your orchard. The sign will also tell you if the tree needs fertilization – note the colour of the text. If it’s green, it’s healthy and dropping items. If it’s red, it requires fertilization in the form of bonemeal.
Griffons hail from a faraway land, and are uncommonly seen in Liquestria. They are proficient flyers, and moreover they are expert archers and warriors. They have the highest base damage of all the races, they can perform special fighting combos, and they can send monsters flying with the power of their roar alone. They are also completely immune to poison damage. Uniquely among the races in Liquestria, they are omnivorous, and actually gain significant bonuses from eating meat. They can see perfectly in the dark.
Their talents are geared towards mobility and speed, exploration, fighting, and construction.

Playing as a Griffon
Spread your wings! Flight is a powerful tool in Minecraft, and Griffons are one of two races with that ability. If you’ve ever played creative mode, you know what’s up.
[SOON]
Griffons are exceptional warriors. They have access to a number of combo abilities they can string together in a fight, and they can perform special moves to take on several monsters at once. Remember to use your Voice skills — you can stun or throw enemies away from you.
Griffons are also expert archers, and you’d be wise to pick up a good bow as soon as you find one. You can switch between several skills on the fly, and quickly let loose a volley of arrows.
