Kpop won't make it big in America because of a few big reasons.
(I'm going to just assume the songs are in English, because LOL if otherwise)
1. They can't speak english for shit.
2. If they do, they have huge accents, and asian accents don't have the "sexy-foreign" allure that european or australian accents do
3. If they mannage to get past all that, they come out as dumb as rocks. I'm sorry, I love these Idols just as much as you, but when 90% of your life is dedicated to singing, looking good, and acting sexy/cute you don't have much time to be intelligent. Of course there's the obvious outliers to all 3 of those points (yes I know Tablo went to Stanford and Sojin has a Mech E major) but the majority of Idols out there couldn't multiply their way out of a paper box.
4. There are still big sterotypes about asians.
5. Americans don't like "cute" music. I really can't think of a really famous artist here currently that's known for being "cute".
6. Americans are pretty big music snobs. You will get wreaked here for putting out shitty music (Rebecca Black, Ke$ha). The really big artists here that are poppy got big because their music was good and listenable. The music industry here is more about the audio then the visual, which cuts out a huge selling point of the Kpop industry, and 75% of Idols can't sing at all and are just there because they can dance or they look good.

You have to do it everytime you reboot though.

Their music aren't good and listenable. I'm pretty certain that on average, K-pop idols (male ones at least) are far superior performers and musicians compared to typical "American pop music".
Yeah, it's hard for Asians to be accepted by mainstream America, but the music itself is not bad compared to what Americans get.

Old Black Eyed Peas is actually good, they just chose to make something more poppy and marketable.
And really, the 19-34 male internet-savvy people are the only ones with these opinions. You talk to everyone else whose internet consists of their email, facebook page, and youtube and they genuinely like those artists.
Also have no idea how Soyeon ranked so low on his list based on that gif alone...

edit- @Skysec it's probably cause they're trained to look innocent (which means partly dumb pretty much because of the role they have to take), and then the accent. Those without the accent are mostly from Cali, and regrettably the part of Cali where every girl, no matter how intelligent, ends up sounding dumb as fuck (not hating, but listen to Jessica/Tiffany and it's a pretty strong accent, now tinged with a little Korean, it's maddening). The girls aren't stupid necessarily, the lack of schooling makes them ignorant about certain topics but in the everyday conversation they'd need to get through they'd do fine- again if it wasn't for the accent.
But again, you seem to be assuming they're going for mainstream, billboard topping success. I'm sure they'd love that, but at the same time even doing mediocre/only doing well with the kpop fanbase is enough to generate tons of money for them comparitively.

I was more focusing on the tunes and beat rather then the lyrics. If you look at Beiber's songs without the lyrics, they can be really catchy ("Banelings banelings banelings").
I'm going to have to disagree with you on Lady Gaga being unlistenable, I actually really like her music, but this is KMD.
And I was thinking more along the lines of Taylor Swift for current "poppy" music, and nsync/backstreet boys/britney spears for old pop. You can hate them all you want, but damn if their music wasn't catchy.
I will agree that a lot of kpop songs are very catchy just like britney/bsb/nsync songs were back in the 90s and that's actually a big reason why I started listening to them. But you can't get big in America by putting out subpar music and then following it up with a killer dance routine like a certain 9 member girl group recently.

No, you just need a good electric beat and songs about partying and getting women- see LMFAO. Neither of them are attractive none of their songs are good- except the instrumentals and the one hook that they always have (I'm sexy and I know it, Everyday I'm Shufflin, SHOTSHOTSSHOTSHOTSHOTSHOTS) and bring the hot women into the videos. There's no reason (other than culture) that a korean artist couldn't do that.
Now, you may say "well yeah, that music's not subpar then if the beat is good"- but then all these companies have to do is buy the beat/instrumentals from any of the composers that do write for these top 40 artists (Wikipedia who composed these songs, often the same group of people over and over), get a songwriter to make inane, easy-to-pronounce lyrics- and there you go.

They produce and write their own music? Doesn't really matter if it's complete crap. The stuff the average Kpop producer comes out with (Scandinavians!!!!!!) is actually loads higher quality. Have you LISTENED to the stuff the BEP, Kanye, and Lady Gaga have churned out in the past three years?
As for idols producing their own music, that's not their job. They are professional performers and a lot of them are DAMN good at it.

We can argue what's good music all you want, but my main point is that in America, you can't sell music through visuals, which is half Kpop's appeal.
Catchy songs will still do well if they can get past the whole Asian and language thing, but in the end if your music isn't catchy and makes people want to claw their ears out, you won't sell.

I think a better way to put it is that kpop is different from western pop music in a way that makes it unappealing to those that like western pop music, and therefore unlikely to be successful.

I can agree with that . . . Kpop is still distinctly Korean and American pop music is distinctly American, but the fact that this sentiment exists in KMD is perplexing.
