Hi TL!
I was practicing ZvZ with one of my teammates and was trying out different ways to use mutas in this matchup, what to transition into/out of etc. Also trying out different timings and different openers, so that i can have the one muta build to rule them all! Or at least a good winrate.
One of the games i tried out some units which are fairly unused in this matchup, namely speed banelings and broodlords.
Here is the replay: http://drop.sc/60384
This is the first time i tried it out and i am fully aware that there are alot of mistakes made in this game (such as almost not getting any armor/attack upgrades at all for my units), but im hoping i can experiment more with this style. It's not the highest level game either, both me and my teammate are around mid-masters level. Still, I would love some suggestions as well on what you guys think i should keep in mind or want me to try out!
If you liked this replay, here are some other ZvZ replays where i go mutalisk: http://drop.sc/57329 http://drop.sc/57566
All games are played on the patch 1.4.2.
I'd like to put this in the strategy section as a [D] topic once i've played around with this some more.

mutas have actually become really common in zvz, along with speed bane/ling flanks to accompany it with a transition into broods or ultras. this style has become popular because of the amount of map control it allows, along with the ability for counter attacks/base races and the ability to deny an opponent's third expansion or subsequent expansions.

I know that mutas are common, but i haven't really seen much usage of broodlords or speedbanelings. I'm sure i'm not in any way unique with this, but as i said, haven't seen much talk on this and would love to bring it up

you can't use speed banelings really because all your gas has to go to mutalisks. If you lose the mutalisk battle, you basically lost and you can't realyl get ahead coz its a mirror matchup. Baneling speed is 150 gas + every baneling is 25 gas so every 4 banelings is a mutalisk. Lets say you get 6 banelings with lings and mutalisks with speed, thats 3 mutas less you will have in the battle

Lol I remember the first time I went muta/ling in zvz...it was on blistering sands, yes THAT map, and I got owned by hydra/roach rofl.
But yeah nice reps, really hoping zvz in sc2 goes to a kind of bw style, mass muta/ling or something ftw. :D

Well in this game i got speed banes only at hive tech and 3 bases. Also i rarely ever mass mutalisks ZvZ, unless my opponent i also going mutalisk, in which case it is pointless to get speedbanelings, as their role is to counter the hydralisks. What you say is true though, and that is why i dont go banelings and mutas simultaneously, or well, a huge number if them with the speed upgrade.
The whole idea is when facing a roach/hydra zerg, the banes will clear the hydras and the broodlords will kill everything else. If i'm facing a muta/ling zerg, massing banelings makes no sense. Only a few is needed to do stay relativly safe vs lings.

If my opponent goes Muta / anything, I do as Day[9] always say: "Just fucking kill him." 1 Mutalisk costs as much gas as 4 Roaches. If I failed to scout his Spire, I probably have more units than him and just base trade (which I´ll win) or force his Mutalisks to defend, buying me time to build the Hydra Den and some Spore Crawlers.

that may work in diamond and below, but in masters/GM this RARELY works vs. a competent player.

Yeah that used now work for me, but now that players are becoming more liberal with their spines, you usually can't just kill him anymore :/
