As a follower of eSports for the last decade I was highly insulted by the post he made, and for responding to his post, I'm the villain? I'm just criticizing him for the post he made as an insult to everyone involved in eSport that wasn't a part of SC:BW. And I find it highly entertaining that people show him support in calling "us" stupid/assholes/retards for defending something we're passionate about that he literally shit on. It's not about people defending their opinions, it's more about people attacking his opinion, his contributions, and himself. There is a huge line of difference between the two. Yeah, I realise some people are passionate to state and defend their opinions, but sometimes it can go too far. Remember what they say, a good defense is a good offense.

The reactions would be immediate and the billions of football fans would roar with anger, as they realize that their gods are mere humans - like themselves. Though, there is really no difference between how the fans/crowds react - backlashes are bound to happen as soon as they open up their mouths in public. They have PR staff that tells them exactly what to do and how to say it, and it's sounds utterly boring. But it's boring for a reason. I don't know if the SC2 pro scene has actively chosen to be 'a part' of the general community. With people like Tyler actively posting or it just happened this way. But if you chose to do so, you need to realize that you are a person of certain fame - and it doesn't matter if you chose to get it or not, there will be consequences when you participate in the public debate. Your fame, chosen or not, raises your voice above the mass - people read/listen to you more than they do to me. Most likely this post will end up being buried beneath a mountain of other posts. This does mean that you have to realize that A) Your opinion, whatever it is, will create larger attention than most. It's a fact, you may or may not like it. But that's the way it is. And B) And because of that anything you say or don't say is your choice. You chose to get reactions of varied quality and depth because you knew even before you spoke your mind that you would be heard. I hope we get some better media training for those up in the top. It's all fun and games to sit on some podcast / write your opinions on reddit or TL when you are a nobody - like me, nobody cares. It's not your fault that you (probably) haven't received any media training, specially since you volunteered to do all the translation etc. This might be something that the TL staff/MLG staff could/should teach to those who rise up above the rest. You need to understand that things will be different, and the larger esports grow the more colorful it's opinions are going to be. And hopefully this could turn out to be a lesson you will share with others, whether you leave or stay. eSports is still in it's early stages - an entertainment child. Day by day, step by step it matures. As more fans tune into virtual battles between men and women, a better and more stable infrastructure in terms of organisations who understand the need to be professional over personal is necessary. More for the players and those who work with it than the crowd, a thousand negative comments can be really punishing and demoralizing for anyone. Thus they need to be educated on public relations. I'd say what separate eSports more from any other sport is the way the pro's and tournament staff are integrated with the community. The close relations between fans and pro's. The fact that i'm just one PM away from most of my heroes (though I'm too scared to send any ) is kinda unique. But this does come at a cost, and it's the pro's and staff who pay the prize really. And perhaps in the end the community at large. tl;dr i'm on a boat edit - some sentences didn't make any sense..

In the future you might want to consider one thing before posting on the interwebs, "Why am I saying this, what do I want to happen?" Take this as a learning pill and continue doing what you do best, translate and be a part of the community. If you feel that BW is the thing you want to focus on, do that. Don't get pushed into things you don't feel like doing. People love to put guilt trips on others to get them to do things they can't or want to do themself. gl hf in the future, whatever it may be.

When you express a strong opinion, you're bound to get a strong response including haters. Don't worry yourself about it. I'm sure there a lot of us here who truely appreciate the work you have put into eSports, despite whatever opinions you hold.

You need to seriously relax. Milkis in his post built up a VERY clear definition of his OWN paradigm of what an eSport is. Is Milkis throwing away the achievements of all these players who play in these sports intensely and passionately? Of course not. He lays out why he thinks that BW is the ONLY eSport and it is because it is the ONLY game that has been accepted by a national audience and not JUST by gamers. Whether or not you agree with it, this does not call for fifty thousand people calling Milkis a retard who didn't even both consider his argument and instead read the title and decided to gloss over and respond.

You're making a ton of stuff up just to twist his post into something you can choose to be insulted by. He didn't LITERALLY shit on anybody or anything. He didn't even figuratively shit on anybody or anything. He has his opinion, and he submitted very specific criteria that led to him having that opinion. It's not like he just decided out of the blue that BW is the only legitimate e-sport because he likes it the most. Nobody is attacking you, you're only fueling the flame on purpose so you can demonstrate your "passion" to everybody and feel good about it. For all practical purposes, you are the aggressor here.

Swallow your pride, admit you were wrong, apologize (despite all the hate posts you're getting right now) and give yourself some days to reconsider everything. Edit: This whole BW elitism always sucked. Sure, it was harder than WC3 but that doesn't mean WC3 pros couldn't have made it far in BW had they played it right from the start. Either you're good at gaming or you are not.

You're now getting the real shit for this silly post which could have easily been prevented. His point on reddit was that BW is the only real esports title, everything else sucks. Wheat told him how wrong he was, everyone else wasn't as nice as Wheat and that's how everything began.
