Space... there's no space... godamn it. So many issues are interrelated. Welcome to third world society. If you think China is a Third World country then you are very ignorant. By the old technical terms (I hate most 1st, 2nd, and 3rd world labels because it related to back in the Cold War; and they are outdated terms), China would be a 2nd world country because they are Communist. However, to be honest. They have a booming economy, and have such high growth that they are looking like the USA back in the 50's after WW2. China can't be qualified as 1st 2nd or 3rd world because of simply how vast and how varied each province and each town is from one another. If you go to the big populated urban centers like Beijing or Shanghai or Hong Kong, it's very clearly a 1st world environment. However, the vast majority of China are not that developed and many places aren't even close to being so developed. Something like 50%+ of China is still completely rural and can definitely be qualified as 3rd world.

A human life has the same value, whether its in China or in any other part of the world. Saving that girl has to be the number one priority, no matter what the consequences. It surprises and shocks me that you are able to say this with a clean conscience. The risk of being sued is well worth it to save an innocent kid's life. The moral degeneration that you exhibit is disgusting to say the least.
I'm not going to sit here and pretend that this phenomenon is local to China or any specific country. But any person who just walks away without even lifting a finger is no better than the driver of the van himself and is a leech on the society who enjoys its benefits without any responsibilities. A society with such people is swiftly and surely heading towards its own destruction.

Tragic.
I'll leave out any of the cliché "what's the world coming to" style postings, I'm sure others will fill in that role.
Extremely sickening to watch someone run over a child, stop and then continue to run her over..

Luckily I married someone with the decency to accept poverty if it meant saving a girl dying in the streets.
Hell, we spent a large sum of money recently to give surgery to a dying stray cat, and that was a fucking CAT. And believe me when I say we are not close to being well-off.
It is convenient I suppose to assume that the result of saving this girl is having your children and family starve to death. Those sort of irrational assumptions make it much easier to rationalize walking away.

My priorities change depending on where I am. In any Western society, you can be damned sure I'd be there to help. In China, not so much.

even with 06 decision(most people you help will feel gratitude and not put a blame on you or try to sue) you have to forget about yourself at some point and step in as a human being, this was one of those scenarios. most other places the bystander effect would apply when it puts their own lives at risk not for fear of getting sued. its silly for there to be a system that would make you think twice about helping people in dire need. w t f china.
|
There's a difference between people in the West hesitating to help victims of stabbings or other life threatening situations and cases like this, where a toddler that's been critically injured after being run over is turned a blind eye towards by pedestrians.
Let's forget all the talk of "oh well, this happens everywhere!" Of course it does, but it happens more frequently in countries that tend to be a little more backwards... Whereas in the above example, the bystander effect probably takes precedence in both situations, one happens to be very much influenced by government policy.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm a Canadian but my parents are Chinese. I've discussed with them regarding this and we had the same opinion. In China, what happened, is the standard thing that should've happened. Given that the 06 case penalty was based on REASONING, not PROOF, there's not much of a reason to take the chance that you could be caring for hell, 20% of the treatment of a random person you found on the street for the rest of their life. In Canada, I would've helped the girl in a heartbeat. In China, I would've looked and at the very most, called 120. I'm willing to bet that everyone who sees both sides will probably see the same way I do. Sorry to the girl's parents but my family > their family, in 100% of cases.

Oh sure you're right, life is so pragmatical. Why don't you take her rests for dinner?
Easy to be a judgmental little shit when you're never gonna be in that situation yourself. On a related note, even though theres no form of 'Good Samaritan' law in bangladesh, I've personally seen people just say fuck it and try to help. Of course the situations absolutely different from china, so its not a comparison. When my uncle took me to the park when i was 5 or 6 or something, i dropped some candy or something and started crying like a little girl. 5 different guys walked up and demanded my uncle prove hes not kidnapping me because i was crying so hard (we look nothing alike, and our skin colors were very different). Also if somebody pulls out a knife here and starts threatening, instead of people running like fuck they DIVE on the guy with the knife as a crowd. Its kind of ridiculous

What The Fu*k.... That is just awful SOO many people walk right by... do nothing...

This just happened this past Thursday. Yet another incident of Chinese citizens watching another citizen (even this young child!) injured yet no response from them. This phenomenon of watching idly to this degree of accident may seem barbaric to us in the US, but this can be accredited to the fear of getting accused of being the cause of the accident rather than a good Samaritan...Thank God for the Good Samaritan Law here. This is such a sad case and I just cant wrap my mind around the thought of just watching a toddler seriously injured and having to weigh my choices of helping or ignoring. That's just so inhumane.
Yes if only every country in the world was just like the US... aahh.. what a sad world. Lol.

Where do you get off going the moral high road? I love that you live in a fairy land where there's evil and there's good. This shit is complicated because of past precedents. I would love to help, but since I'm not superman, there's a chance I could get owned doing so. I'm weighing the life of one person to the lives of 4 people.
I'm glad that you would willingly spend 40% of your income throughout your life towards your cat, I'm not as generous.
