Wtf, I can't see why people are saying they wouldn't help the child even after having a chance to think about it. You risk getting sued and becoming poor/jailed/whatever, while your family gets poor, etc. etc. But you can live with the fact that you had the power to save an innocent life, yet you choose not to?
What type of family are you raising and what examples are you setting for your kids? You're not thinking about your family at all, because a real family would perceive you as a hero...if not then you have done a terrible job as a family member.
I can somewhat understand if people don't help in the heat of the moment, because they're scared, not because they're thinking about the future of their family. It's disturbing to think that given time to think in this scenario, people would still choose to turn away.
I'm not saying I'm one to rush to every scene, but there are going to be certain situations that I will remember for the rest of my life. I can only hope to God that I make the choice to help. I would never be able to live it down.

Uh, you're right that we can think for ourselves, and that's exactly what some of us are doing. While there are people who risk their livelihood for a stranger, there are others who weigh the pros and cons. I'd be more inclined to say that the people who rush into everything without a thought are the ones who haven't evolved past primal instinct. The ones calculating the odds are the ones who are actually using their brains.

its actually because of a weird law in china that anyone who trys to help someone thats hurt can be charged with assault even though theres no proof that there was assault. if not for this there would have been people helping.
