Moved to Washington DC about 2.5 weeks ago.. got an apartment (luckily found one for relatively cheap according to DC standards) in Dupont, did some work on it, and finally... went to Ikea to order furniture and such so I can actually start living. Furniture supposed to be delivered today between 10am-2pm, so I drive over from my gf's house in the morning.
It's raining, etc etc but everything's going smooth. I'm about 3 blocks away from my place, turning left onto Q street (where my apt is located), BOOM fucking van runs right into me, on the drivers side.
My glasses fly off and the car fills with black smoke and I can't see shit and everything is spinning (literally)... finally stop, and my gf is breathing super loud so I freak out because I can't see (I'm basically blind without my glasses) and I think she's hurt. After a minute she said she's okay, and I say we need to get out of the car because the smoke is really bad and it smelled like gas. My door won't even open so we have to get out from the passenger side. She gets out of the car, and I feel around for my glasses, and finally find them.. then I get out of the car too.
My ankle is sprained pretty badly and I can't put much pressure on it, and my gf has a little bruise on her shin -- but miraculously, that's the most any of us involved got injured. The car though, totaled (most likely). The force of the crash literally threw the car clear across the intersection and then some. The people on the street were amazed that nobody got hurt because of the fact that the car spun so far away from the actual point of impact. For whatever reason though, nobody was seriously injured.
So after dealing with the police and other stuff for about 1.5 hours, I walk back to my apartment -- but my ankle has swollen up pretty bad and it's a bit difficult to walk.
So I get home, waiting for the delivery of my furniture. It's 3:00pm and it hasn't arrived yet. Cool! 10 minutes later, I get a call and my delivery is here! Sick life, something's going right for me today!
I hobble downstairs to let the delivery guys in, and they start bringing out the boxer. I had paid $40 for the "picking service" which is basically you give the store your list of stuff you want, and they pick it for you and deliver it. Bad idea.
Everything was wrong, not even remotely close to what I ordered. Funnily enough, there were 2 items that they couldn't pick, and I had to do myself. Those 2 things arrived, but everything else totally wrong.
It's almost like they just took my 2 items, grabbed whatever was lying around, and slapped my name on it and shipped it over.
So now, I have no access to a car, my gf lives about 45 minutes out from DC (in MD), no way to get anywhere except for metro, which I can't even get to my gf's house from... and no fucking furniture in my house except 1 small coffee table, 1 chair, and an unassembled book case (and some pots + pans that arrived yesterday, so I won't starve)!
On top of that, all my school stuff, notes, hw, etc... was in my gf's car.
There's mah blog!

Shitty buzz. Hopefully whiplash doesn't settle in...it can take a bit, and then it doesn't go away.

Oh my god. I was like "sweet apartment, can't wait to see how well he's doing." And then some sick horrible car accident described in great detail lol.....
Sorry for you man, sometimes life sucks.

You should have asked the delivery guys if they knew who you were, they might have gave up their truck so you could use it.
|
Don't worry, the flood will fix it.

Wow. At least you're safe, Duran. It's a shitty situation, but things can be replaced. If you haven't yet, try to get your scrapes checked. It never hurts to be extra safe.
I am sure the sc2dc people will be happy to lend an hand if needed.

Good luck dude.

whoa your still alive!!! <3
and it took me like an hour to get home today what normally takes 10 minutes. There were like 3 flooded roads all around my house... with cars stuck in them and sidewalks washed away, pretty insane. it's an aquapocalypse.

Wow I'm glad you're still alive. Shitty situation but it will be over eventually. Good luck.
