If you intentionally disrupt this server your actions will be reported to TL staff and action may be taken against your forum account. |

I forgot to mention, my server is linked to my irc channel (#Craton on quakenet), so even if nobody is in game, someone will usually respond eventually.

For what it's worth I am able to host a server, however I am unable to manage it at this point in time. If you guys want to put something together and need hardware for it let me know.

I just got Minecraft... it would be awesome if I can play with fellow TLers...

Serajai, maybe wait for 1.8 and the MP plug-ins updated for it 1.8 changes the game quite a bit terrain wise :o

Plugins are a bitch from what I heard. Or at least waiting for the ones you want to be updated :\

I'd love to see you throw up another server.

Its a real shame Mojang doesn't just make proper multiplayer features so all this teadious and slow development from private modders won't be so detrimental to the games success.

The problem is, at least when I ran a server, you NEED x amount of addons just for the multiplayer to function properly. I was running something like 20 plugins and nearly every single one of them was necessary in one form or another (prevent griefing, add moderating commands, etc). The only ones that weren't 100% required were ones that fixed bugs, such as allowing Minecarts to work.
I don't know if any of that's changed or not. Notch has been saying for a year now he was working on integrating plugins into the game with an official API. This would solve the problem of breaking addons, but again I haven't really followed the game enough to know if this is implemented yet.
Point being, even when you're running the basic required plugins like anti-griefing ones... those still break every patch as well and updating without them means the server will be trashed. Any servers that patch instantly have their own private dev teams working on their own custom plugins and thus are able to update at their own pace. I tried putting together a dev team here but there just weren't enough people with coding experience and/or interest so I was forced to use public addons for 90% of mine which put the updating out of my control.
Long story short it was a complete pain in the ass the way Notch half-assed the plugin support and unless it's been improved it still will be.

I think plugin support is a lot better with the Bukkit project.. not sure if that was used with the old TL server. If anyone can host/manage it, please do :o I miss those times so much.
Edit: oh, but I guess that doesn't really help with updating :/

You don't need 20 plugins; you need at most half of that. A lot of plugins have multiple parts (e.g. that portal mod has 3), so that increases the apparent number.
Really, all you need is chest locking, anti-griefing (WorldGuard/WorldEdit), and something to stop creepers/enderman from fucking everything up (WorldGuard).
There are lots of "fun" or "convenience" plugins like Buildr or quest-type mods, but they're hardly essential. That's 2-3 addons right there -- why on earth did you need 17 more?
Unrelated, for the handful of you who do use my server: It's updated to 1.8 (vanilla survival, new map) with a plan to have a portal linking to the previous world once Bukkit is updated.
