Congratulations on reaching this thread. In the rare event that you are in grandmasters league, have a scorching hot girlfriend, and somehow avoided the terrible stench of being a gamer, please refrain from telling us about it. The 10 pages of people informing us that they do, in fact, have sex should provide enough of a counterexample to any non-believers.
Hey Tl folk, no I dont want to say bad things about gamers, and no I dont want to start a discussion about gamer predjudieces. I want to present an article about the Gc2011 shot by RTL 2 a big german television company. (in german, maybe some1 can translate it) (english subtitels) Thanks to Drg for making this Basicly what there are saying is : - Gamers smell - They dont have girlfriends - They are addicted to games and because of that dont care how they look -(insert any gamer predjudice) Whats your oppinion about that? For me, im pretty offend by that arcticle and think, we should do something against it. Do responses, show em how heterogen the gamingcommunity is. For all you fellow german gamers out there, you can help by follow what this guy is offering : (also in german) I will spread the word in every german gaming community and hope they all will respond. Feel free to leave a comment. Greetings, BeWat3r p.s pardon my bad english, I hope you can understand what im trying to say :-)
edit : Im really suprised how many people just dont care. For me, it isnt that they talk shit about people they have no idea of, it is the way they do. We all want gaming to grow, and gain reputition in mainstream society. This wont happen, if everyone who feels like it, can make some bad news and get away with it, and nothing happens.
TV is a media from the last century. They only try to fullfill their program with things for unemployed, lazy dumbasses. No1 in this century would ever believe it. I know 1 girl in my classes (12th grade - 120 students) that doesnt play games once a day or so.
People only get offended when a comment hits too close to home. While it certainly doesn't apply to everyone, I'm sure we can all think of many examples where her description is spot-on.
its just the way bad/dumb tv shows work, the likes of which are hosted regularly on that particular tv station named RTL. you point at something that is seen as something out of the ordinary and make it seem unusual/freaky and basically preform opinions for the people watching it. its the epitome of stupidity because the broadcast is only watched by people that have already formed their own opinions about gamers and what the show does is enhancing and supporting their views. really, anybody in their right mind should just ignore it and put it off as the laughable and pathetic piece of s*** this is.
RTL / Explosiv is as low as german television can get. There's no need to take any part of this serious over overreact to it, as provoking is all they want to do (and apparently and to a certain degree, they're already successful with it).
First of all your english is excellent, even though I'm not a native speaker Prejudices as such will continue for a bit longer, since right now only the younger generation is into gaming, older people still see it as a waste of time and propagate these stereotypes to their offspring who aren't gamers. I think the best way to combat these prejudices is simply living well and not get too offended by the ignorance of others. I myself was a gamer since being a small child, and will continue to be a gamer for the forseeable future. Also, gaming peaked my interest in IT, I'm currently finishing CS at university, so from where I'm standing, games were not a detriment, but helped shape who I am today. I have a girlfriend and only stink beacuse the weather is so hot right now (a joke of course :D).
I'm much more likely to be unshaven/look freakish when I'm studying for an exam than when I've finally got time to play some games. I think they should make a show about the disgusting university students and their habits during exam periods instead...
