- Congratulations on your victory, your thoughts on making the first semifinals (round of 4)?
I grew up watching Starcraft 1. I didn’t know anything back then, but the players who made the semifinals always looked impressive. I am really glad that I was also able to raise my name to this stage.
- You had a perfect victory.
I knew as long as I won the 1st set, I would win 3:0. I think I was pretty lucky in the 1st set. In my mind, I had sets 2, 4, 5 won no matter what. But I thought the 1st set would be around 50/50.
- With today’s win, you have recorded a perfect win rate against protoss (**In GSL with at least 10 wins). This is a surprising record, what do you think?
It is surprising even to me. After beating MC in the open season, I have always wanted face protosses if possible, but I have not had the chance to face them often. I have faced protoss twice this super tournament, so I believe that is the reason for my good result.
- It may be a teamkill final (against Marineking). But who do you want to face in the next round?.
Since the finals will definitely be against a terran, I want to try my hand at beating a zerg. In this super tournament, I have beaten 2 protosses, 1 terran, and 1 zerg. I hope I can face a zerg so I can record two wins against each race.
- But wouldn’t it be easier for practice if 4 terrans were in the semifinals?
Because time for practice is short, it will be a battle between our base skill levels.
- Because of your good results, you must be expecting some fans.
I am just happy because I feel like my real skill has been showing. I would gladly welcome more fans but I don’t really know much about that.
- What would you say is the biggest reason for the difference in your play level today as compared to previously?
Mouse setting, I think I was not able to do that well before. Also previously, I always wondered why my skill wouldn’t come out, but now, I don’t worry about it.
- It always seemed like the early game wasn’t too good for you, how do you flip the momentum back?
Not just in the 3rd set, but in the 2nd set, because of the DTs I thought that it would be tough. But the tide turned in my favor both times, when I went in for an attack, he had a lot less units than I thought and by destroying the Nexus, I was able to pull out the win.
- You must be more greedy for this championship.
Now I feel it even more. Before this, the championship felt so far away, but since now it’s in front of my eyes, I want it so badly.
- Is it true that you do not live at the team house?
Yes, it is good because I can control my pace when I am tired and control how I practice. It is similar to when I plan out my studies. I have never been one to just sit still and continuously study.
- Marineking’s match, who will come out on top?
I feel like Marineking has better skills, but MMA might have the recent momentum. I believe the win at MLG Columbus has had a large effect on his play.
- Any last comments?
I want to thank fOu’s Choya, Imori, Crane, and StarTale’s Squirtle for helping me practice. I guess I will finally have a match on the same date as Marineking, I hope we can both give each other strength as we advance together to the finals.

▼ 승리 축하한다. 첫 4강인데 소감을 밝혀본다면?
- 어렸을 때 스타크래프트1을 보면서 컸다. 아무것도 모를 때었지만 4강에 진출한 선수들이 대단해 보였다. 나도 거기에 이름을 올릴 수 있어서 기분이 좋다.
▼ 완벽한 승리였다?
- 1세트만 이기면 3:0으로 이길 수 있을 것 같았다. 1세트에 운이 좋았던 것 같다. 2, 4, 5세트는 무조건 이긴다는 생각이었다. 1세트를 가질 수 있는 확률이 50:50이라고 생각했다.
▼ 오늘 경기 승리로 프로토스 전 전승을 기록했다. 상당히 놀라운 기록이다?
- 내가 생각해도 놀랍다. 오픈 시즌에 장민철 선수를 이기고 나서 프로토스를 만나고 싶다고 생각했는데 잘 만나지 못했다. 이번 슈퍼토너먼트에서 2번이나 프로토스와 겨루게 되어 좋은 결과가 나온 것 같다.
▼ 팀 킬 결승을 할 수 있을 것 같다는 얘기가 있었다. 그에 앞서 다음 상대로 누가 좋은가?
- 결승은 무조건 테란이기 때문에 저그를 잡고 싶다. 이번 슈퍼토너먼트에선 프로토스 2번, 테란 1번, 저그 1번을 잡아냈다. 저그를 만나 모두 2번씩 겨루게 되도록 맞추고 싶다.
▼ 4강이 4테란이 되면 연습이 더욱 수월하지 않을까?
- 연습 시간이 짧아서 기본기 싸움이 될 것 같다.
▼ 결과도 잘 나오는데 팬들에 대한 기대도 할 수 있을 것 같은데?
- 이제는 제 실력이 나오는 것 같아서 기쁘다. 팬들은 생기면 좋을 것 같은데 잘 모르겠다.
▼ 이전에 비해 경기력이 오른 가장 큰 이유를 밝혀본다면?
- 마우스 세팅. 예전에는 아무것도 못했다. 예전에는 왜 이렇게 실력이 나오지 않을까 생각했는데, 이젠 그런 걱정할 필요가 없게 됐다.
▼ 경기 초반부가 좋지 않았다. 뒤집게 된 계기가 있었다면?
- 3세트 뿐만 아니라 2세트 역시도 암흑기사 때문에 안 좋을 것 같았다. 그런데 역으로 휘둘리시더라. 공격을 들어갔는데, 생각보다 병력이 없었다. 연결체를 파괴하면서 잡아낼 수 있었다.
▼ 우승에 대한 욕심이 더 생겼을 것 같은데?
- 이젠 더 생겼다. 이 전엔 우승은 먼 얘기인 것 같았는데, 지금은 눈앞에 있어 욕심이 생겼다.
▼ 숙소 생활을 하지 않은 것으로 알고 있다?
- 힘들 땐 마음대로 쉴 수 있고 페이스 조절을 할 수 있어서 좋은 것 같다. 공부할 때도 계획적이진 않았다. 엉덩이 붙이고 계속 있는 스타일은 아니었다.
▼ 이정훈의 경기, 누가 더 우세할 것 같은가?
실력은 정훈이가 좋은 것 같은데, 최근 기세는 문성원 선수가 더 좋은 것 같아 걱정이다. MLG 콜럼버스 우승이 주는 영향이 큰 것 같다.
▼ 끝으로 하고 싶은 말?
- 연습을 도와준 포유의 이형섭 감독, 우민규 코치, 김한별 선수, 스타테일의 박현우 선수에게 감사의 말을 전하고 싶다. 정훈이와 같은 날 경기를 가지는데 서로 힘내서 함께 결승에 진출했으면 좋겠다. 정훈이가 힘냈으면 좋겠다.

- Your thoughts on making the semifinals (round of 4)?
I am still shaking. I thought I was behind in the last set. I am thrilled to have won the match.
- You must have been happy to have advanced by beating Nestea, but because of that, you must also have had some pressure.
After the match, unlike what I would have thought, I was able to see a variety of reactions from the fans. For some, they dismissed my skill that day as a ‘fraud’, which made me a bit disappointed.
- So then did you have the thought “I will show you my real skills”?
I don’t lack that kind of motivation. But I was able to practice even harder.
- This was a full set affair. Your code A victory was tough, but it seemed like today’s match was even tougher.
When things went well in the beginning, I thought to myself that ‘I can win easily.’ But Line was too good at coping with the stress. Even during practice, I have not had gamews where it was this neck and neck.
- If you were to pick the toughest game?
The 4th set was pretty hard, but I would have to say the 5th set was the toughest. During the game, when I thought that I had won, all of a sudden brood lords popped out, that was both surprising and difficult to handle.
- Was there any games you would say ‘I should have won...’
In the 3rd set, I lost my hellions really early. I really wanted to keep them alive, but letting Line surround them and losing them was especially disappointing.
- Your next opponent will be Polt. What do you think about him?
I have faced him previously during the open season. I have also faced him often on the ladder since then, and we have even practiced with each other. I believe we both know each other pretty well. So I believe he will be a tough opponent.
- The semifinals is composed of 4 terrans. What do you think?
I am not that fond of it. It’s not like I am bad at TvT so I am not against it, but I do not think it is good overall.
- What do you think about your chances to win the tournament?
Rather than thinking about those kinds of chances, I plan to put forth my best effort to just take the win. Percentages are meaningless.
- Your team must be giving you full support. Anything you want to say to them?
All of my teammates have really been helping me practice. I do not think they are treating anyone differently or giving me special treatment. But every time someone has a match, the team usually gets behind them to help him no matter what.
- There isn’t much time for the next match, will you have enough practice?
Supernova, Nada, TheStc, our team is full of great terrans so I will definitely have enough practice.
- Anything you want to say going into the semifinals?
I don’t have much time, but I will give it my best to practice and win the match. I want to thank my teammates who helped me practice and also my coach, manager, and parents for their support. During this super tournament, I have seen the reactions from many fans. I hope that they can be more supportive rather than critical of the players. I had a long slump previous to this, and I was really able to come out of it because of the cheering from the fans. For gamers, even the smallest criticisms can cause a big wound but the smallest of cheers can be the biggest of strengths. If there are things I need to fix, I will make sure to put from my best effort to fix them.

▼ 4강까지 올랐다. 기분이 어떤가?
- 아직도 떨린다. 마지막에 불리하다고 생각했다. 승리하게 되어 감격스럽다.
▼ 16강에서 임재덕을 꺾고 올라왔기 때문에 기분이 좋겠지만, 반면 부담감도 있을 것 같다?
- 생각과는 다르게 끝나고 난 후, 여러 팬 분들이 다양한 반응을 보였다. 내 노력이 ‘사기’라는 한 마디로 가볍게 치부되는 것이 조금 아쉬웠다.
▼ 반대로 ‘실력을 보여주겠어’ 란 생각도 들었을 것 같다?
- 그런 것도 없진 않다. 그래서 더욱 열심히 한 것 같다.
▼ 풀 세트까지 가는 접전이었다. 코드A 결승도 힘들었지만, 오늘 경기가 가장 힘들어 보였다.
- 처음엔 생각한 대로 잘 풀려서 ‘쉽게 승리할 수 있겠다’ 생각했다. 하지만 김수호 선수가 너무 잘 대처해서 힘들었다. 연습에서도 치열한 상황이 많이 안 나왔었다.
▼ 가장 힘든 경기를 꼽아본다면?
- 4세트도 그랬지만, 5세트가 가장 힘들었던 것 같다. 경기 중 ‘이겼다’란 생각이 들었는데 다수의 무리군주가 나와 놀라고 힘들었다.
▼ ‘이겼어야 했는데…’ 란 경기가 있다면?
- 3세트에서 화염차가 초반에 잡힌 것. 화염차를 살리는 것으로 생각했는데 김수호 선수에게 감싸지며 내준 것이 가장 아쉽다.
▼ 다음 상대가 최성훈이다. 상대에 대해서 어떻게 생각하나?
- 최성훈 선수는 오픈 시즌에서 만난 적이 있다. 그 때부터 래더 게임을 많이 했었고, 서로 여러가지 연습도 많이 했었다. 잘 아는 편이라 생각한다. 그래서 까다로운 상대가 될 거라고 본다.
▼ 4강전 대진이 4명의 테란이다. 입장에서 어떤가?
- 그렇게 반갑지만은 않다. 테란 전을 못하는 것도 아니라 강박감은 없지만 좋지만은 않다고 생각한다.
▼ 본인이 생각하는 우승에 대한 가능성을 어느 정도로 보는지?
- 그런 예상보다 꼭 우승 해야겠다는 마음가짐으로 열심히 하고 싶다. 퍼센트는 의미가 없다.
▼ 팀에서 전폭적인 지지를 해줄 것 같다. 팀원들에게 하고 싶은 말?
- 같은 팀 선수들이 연습을 정말 잘 도와준다. 특정선수를 밀어준다는 것에 대해선 크게 생각하지 않았다. 경기를 앞둔 선수들의 연습을 평소처럼 도와주는 것이 우리 팀이다.
▼ 기간이 얼마 남지 않았는데 연습이 충분하겠는가?
- 영진이나 윤열이 형, 연식이 형 등 팀 내에도 막강한 테란 라인이 있어 연습은 충분할 것 같다.
▼ 4강에 임하는 각오와 하고 싶은 말?
- 남은 기간이 얼마 없지만, 최선을 다해 준비할 것이고 이기도록 노력하겠다. 연습을 도와준 팀원들에게 고맙고 감독님과 코치님, 응원해주신 가족들에게 감사한다. 이번 슈퍼 토너먼트를 겪으면서 여러 팬들의 반응을 봤다. 비난 보단 격려를 많이 해주셨으면 좋겠다. 긴 슬럼프가 있었는데 그것을 극복할 수 있었던 것은 팬들의 응원과 격려였다. 게이머들에게 작은 한 마디가 큰 상처가 되고 작은 응원 하나가 큰 힘이 된다. 부족한 부분이 있으면 배우는 자세에서 고치도록 노력하겠다.
