(T)TOP –‘I want to overcome the wall that is Nada’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
My opponent was a strategy-oriented player so it was difficult to prepare for this match. I have never had this tough of a time deciding what builds I should use. But I ended up playing using my regular style which allowed me to play comfortably.

- You are well known for your TvT, does that pressure you to perform?
Because of the limitless amount of strategies in TvT where one mistake can lead to your loss, I was pretty worried about this match.

- Your ambition for this season?
For the last two seasons, I have lost to Nada and fell in the tournament. If I get further in the tournament, I could face him again. I want to definitely advance by beating him this time. And if I am given the chance, I would like to win the entire thing. But first, I want to overcome the wall that is Nada.

- Your toughest challenge remaining?
I may have to face Zenio in the next round. I don’t think the brackets turned out as well as it could have. Then, even if I win, I may have to face Nestea.

- Your fast expansion strategies seem to be powerful.
There are a lot of builds that can be used against it, but when I am given the chance I will keep using the build.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank my teammates and coach for helping me practice.

(P)Choya – ‘I have found my path.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I have felt like I was dying for the last 4 months (because I have lost so much). I am so happy that I could win today.

- It seemed like you were singing the entire match.
I like to sing at the practice house. I try to calm my nerves by either singing or chanting some memorized lines to myself. The players don’t like my singing though…

- Your reason for losing the 1st set?
Zenio played a good game. I could not predict his expansion timing, and when I thought his zergling count would be low, he came in with a ton of them. I had to abandon my natural because of that.

- You fell to code B.
I think it was more mental than skill. I have some fear toward broadcasted games. I fell because I was lacking in that regard.

- Some say that it is because you are a playing-coach.
That is something I was struggling with. I thought a lot about the player-coach relationship. And when I was struggling with whether or not I could do both, because of my ‘benefactor’, I was able to find my way. It was someone I know personally.

- The 2nd game looked like it was tough for you.
I had something else prepared, but it turned out ok. If I have to face Nestea in the future, I will use it then.

- You were able to block your opponent’s early pool strategy very well.
Originally, I didn’t even plan to scout. But my teammates told me that since Zenio has never used 6 pool in broadcasted matches before, this may be the time that he could use it. When you end up blocking it, there is no way you lose after.

- In the 3rd set, your opponent was ahead in expansions.
It was cross positions, so it was impossible to put any pressure on my opponent. But my probe was able to stay alive and build a pylon, which spelled doom for my opponent.

- Do you think the super tournament is your chance to recover your reputation?
I want to forget about my past results, and I will take it as a new beginning.

- After this tournament, you will need to prepare for the preliminaries.
I am not that worried about the preliminaries. The place I need to be at will naturally happen according to my skill level. If my skill is fit for code B, I will stay there and if it is fit for code A, I will be in code A.

- It seems like you have to put a lot of focus on multiple things at the same time (as a coach).
I don’t have to do any additional work internally for the team. My teammates are smart enough to take care of the minute things for me. Scheduling, practicing, eating, cleaning, the team takes care of itself. I am really thankful.

- Your goal for this tournament?
I will try to only focus on the next opponent on my sights.

- Any last comments?
I love my teammates and I want to thank them. fOu only exists because of you guys. I hope everyone plays their best and gets the best results possible. I want to thank my team, IM’s Nestea, ZeNEX’s Byun, Coca, and PRIME’s Marineking for helping me out. I will take this opportunity to say thanks once more. Sirius, Lucky, Leenock, SongByungHwa, and Shine for helping me practice. I want to say a word of thanks to the angel of my life.

(T)sC – ‘My goal is definitely to advance to the finals.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
It has been a while, but this feels like the open seasons. I only made it to the round of 32 during that time, but I believe I can get much further this time around.

- How did you prepare for today’s match?
After the maps were announced, I realized the first two maps were ladder maps, so instead of special practice, I focused on laddering. And today’ I played like I do on the ladder. Laddering and playing in the tournament is a bit different so my hands got a bit tied up, but I believe my opponent came today with a good amount of respect for my play.

- You made the round of 8, then the semifinals in the next season. Is it time for you to make the finals this season?
My goal is to win. If I can make it to the round of 8, I think I can ride the momentum to make it to the finals.

- In the last semifinals, you were beaten by an incredible comeback (by Nestea).
When I won the battle in the middle of the map, I thought I had the game won. And just began to think about what I would say in my interview, while playing it very slow. But to my dismay, he got out infestors, and I lost all my marines. I was really disappointed. I didn’t think he would get out infestors.

- Your game against MMA was also disappointing.
I shift-clicked my medivac to go toward the 5-o-clock position, but I think the key didn’t take. I think it was my that play that led to my demise.

- Your ambition for the super tournament?
Of course I want to win, but I may have to face my teammates in the round of 8 or the semifinals. If I can overcome that challenge, I will at least advance to the finals.

- You will be facing Maka in the next round.
Maka likes to use weird builds on the ladder. As long as I play a defensive style and match what he is doing, the game should be doable.

- Any last comments?
I am happy that all of my teammates were able to advance to the round of 32. I hope everyone will be watching, because we will go further. I want to congratulate my coach for winning after so long. I also want to thank everyone on my team who helped me practice.
+ Show Spoiler +

I really dislike Choya's play but you have to respect someone who sings whilst playing StarCraft.

MKP helping Choya for his match, that seems out of left field.

I wonder what exactly that's about.

What does Choya mean by "I want to say a word of thanks to the angel of my life"? Is he dating someone/married? A coach/player probably has zero time for a significant other. Some clarification would be nice.

In Korean, he talks about this Benefactor or this "person" who helped figure things out. I didn't know exactly how that would translate that so I just put it like that there. I suppose it could be a girlfriend or someone in the family or some close friend. I have no idea.

Thanks for the interviews again

TOP and sC, 2 of my favourite terrans who are yet to make it big. TOP unfortunately probably has the worst run with Bomber or Nestea in Ro16, but sC looks primed to take out all of Group C. Gogogo!

Would be insane if MKP and Byun offrace as zerg and are good enough to play at a code S level.
