Clide –‘The winner is the best’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I was surprised because it was the first time I have faced a mech strategy. I knew I had lost in the 1st set, but I was stalling to figure out how I should approach the next game. I think that is why I was able to win in this 3 game set.

- You showed off a new strategy in the 2nd set
You could call it a TvT revolution. I just wrote history. Just kidding… But I do think it will work the first time against most people. I planned to use it if I had won the 1st match, but I ended up using it anyways after the loss.

- How was the 3rd set?
I think I won because my opponent’s expansion was late. The game pretty much flowed as I wanted it to. When my drop succeeded, I knew I had secured the win.

- It may become a teamkill in the round of 32. (Nope)
Since I have had this situation in the last season, I know that the winner will be considered as the ‘top’. Of course we are on the same team and it may hurt, but may the best person win.

- In the last season, you lost due to the concussive shell mistake.
I thought that I had the concussive upgrade. And I found out that I didn’t after the 2nd game. And I didn’t know about that in the 3rd set until I got back to the team house. I think the pressure on that match had a big effect. My parents were both a bit disappointed. Even my mother who watched SC2 for the first time could see that I had the upper hand. But since one of my teammates could make it to the next round, I didn’t feel that bad about it.

- Your goal for this season?
I want to win. 2nd place, losing in the round of 32 or anywhere in between, you can do that all day, but it will always feel the same. People will only remember the victor.

- The toughest challenge in this super tournament?
I think the round of 32 will be a big challenge. Both aLive and Leenock are great players so it will be a tough match either way.

- Any last comments?
I like to joke and play with my younger teammates, but I tried to keep that to a minimum to focus on practice. I was so bored. I think I will go back to my old ways. Also, I was losing quite often in practice that I was really frustrated. But my practice opponents were players like MMA and MVP. There’s definitely something different about the players like that who people talk about. And in the end, I was able to get fired up for this match when MVP cheered me on. I want to thank MMA, MVP, SuperNova, Nada, Rain, Heart, and Nuclear for helping me practice.

Leenock – ‘I was able to win because I wasn’t nervous’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
Recently, I have been really nervous for broadcasted matches. But I think I was able to play this match today without being nervous.

- Your reason for your poor performance recently?
I don’t think I was too unlucky. But I believe I was too nervous in these recent broadcasted matches.

- Why were you so nervous?
I think I was under a lot of pressure to perform since I did pretty well in the early seasons.

- Your opponent put a lot of pressure in the early game.
sC is on my team. How could I not block that after practicing with sC all the time.

- How were you able to hold?
I put my focus not on the scv making the bunker but rather on killing the additional marine reinforcements.

- You showed off some burrowed banelings in the 1st set.
Usually, most people don’t scan around the hill. But aLive was on my team before, and he knows my style pretty well so I think that’s why he scanned there. But the second time, I just thought to myself, ‘I will stop if it doesn’t work, but if it works that’s good.’

- Most zergs are doing well against terran early pressure recently.
I think zerg players are getting used to it. I think zergs have become angry at the terrans trying to take an easy win.

- Your next opponent will be another terran.
I think he may be an easier match than aLive. I won against him before so I believe I can do it again.

- Your goal for this season?
I want to get as far as possible. I am waiting to beat one player at a time.

- People say you look similar to GuMiho, what do you think?
That’s the first time I’ve heard that. I don’t like it.

- Any last comments?
I think our recent team atmosphere is good. And I hope that I can do well in the next preliminaries. I want to thank Choya for coming out here to cheer me on even though his match is coming up on Tuesday. I want to thank Nuclear, kasyu, sC, and Marineking for helping me practice.

Byun – ‘I am confident in the round of 32 no matter who advances.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I thought I may lose today. So even though this wasn’t a match like I had aginst MC, I practiced really hard for today.

- Why did you think you may lose?
My opponent on the ladder happens to be extremely aggressive. I prepared against 5 warp gate strategies and practiced my defenses but I still lost sometimes.

- How did you feel after losing the 1st set?
If it was on the ladder, it wasn’t a situation where I would have been broken, but my defenses were penetrated so I was angry. I think I was overthinking it. I knew my opponent was aggressive so I pulled my scvs too fast. Thus having less income for additional reinforcements.

- You were pretty aggressive in the 2nd set.
I was really angry to I decided to be agressive

- Your next opponent will be either Alicia or MC.
I hope MC can advance.

- Your goal for this season?
The semifinals.

- Your biggest challenge in the super tournament?
The round of 16. If I can win in the round of 16, I believe I can get to the semifinals. I think I can definitely break through the round of 32. But I think I will have to face a terran in the round of 16.

- The reason for your poor results recently?
I don’t think it’s been that bad. I have been staying put at around the same level for a while.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank MVP’s finale, Genius, PRIME’s Creator, IM’s Seed, and my team’s Python, Returning, cOre, eScJung, StarTale’s Parting for helping me practice. I also want to thank fOu’s coach Choya for his help as well.

Alicia –‘I feel like I already won the finals.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 32?
I was ready to give up before the match started, but I am really happy that I came out 2:0 to win the match

- How did you feel after the brackets were posted?
I was really disappointed in the game director Lee Joon Ho. But the results ended up fine so I guess I can thank him now.

- How did you prepare for today’s match?
I tried not to over-practice to minimize the chances of me overanalyzing the matchup. I tried to play metalopolis like I do on the ladder, and for crevasse and dual sight, I planned to build my cybernetics and gateways a bit quicker. When I saw that my opponent’s cybernetics went down a bit late, I knew I could win.

- The early stalker battle in the 1st set was really close.
I tried to fake a 4 gate by doing that. Once I got my immortal out, I thought I could win.

- Your goal for this season?
After looking at the brackets in the round of 64, I thought that it was telling me ‘not to play in the super tournament’. But now, my goal is to win. I feel like I just won the finals in the round of 64.

- What was your secret to today’s victory?
I just played the 1st set like I do on the ladder. And since almost everyone uses 4 gates on crevasse, I just tried to reduce the time for that, I think my fast cybernetics worked out for me.

- Your next opponent is Byun?
PvT is the matchup that I have the most confidence in, and I will make sure to practice hard to get to the round of 16. I think I should be favored by at least 60 to 70 percent.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank Ga-yeon for taking care of me. She even bought me some chicken telling me to win. I want to also thank Lee Joon Ho because I ended up winning. I want to thank Kuma for helping me practice even after I was really disappointed in the brackets. I also want to thank my teammates who came today to cheer me on.
