Hello, i usally lurk around in these forums but i think i can contribute a small detail here =)
Apperantly, some people think EMP doesnt uncloack anymore/just uncloacks DT's/whatever - that's not true! Just make sure to target properly!
SAME HEIGHT LEVEL / TARGETING UP CLIFF

TARGETING DOWN CLIFF

EMP target is ground-based, so clicking exactly on observers/banshees will MISS - i hope the image gives you an idea how to offset your target to be successful.
edit: bleh, typo in topic title... i feel bad. i'd like to see a mod straighten that out =)

Thanks for contributing x) Good info for some terran players

I have lost to T's who EMP my DT before
It's a very useful trick.

does this distance change if there's a cliff or something?
thanks either way

good call, i'll make a screenshot of that too and complete my OP.
edit: done. seems like a lil more offset is needed targeting down the cliff.

EMP already gives Terran a 50% HP lead on their entire army over the Protoss army if their EMPs are well placed. I really think revealing cloaked units as well is too much (especially since T has plenty of detection), it de-cloaking in BW was fine as it did not do nearly as much shield damage as it does now. Also in BW there was a clearly visible projectile from the Sci-Vessel when it fired the EMP, in SC2 the EMP is instantaneous with no projectile - making it basically impossible to dodge (unless you get lucky).

The anti-EMP trolls come out of their caves like clockwork.

that is not what this thread is about you jack ass go to a balance thread. this is about using it to detect observers, which with 3d graphics can be tricky

I had good intentions with that oO
Believe it or not, i'm actually a Protoss player! :D

shields regenerate mad fast, just retreat for a bit. remember plague back in BW? sending HP down to 1? thats a bit more than a 50% HP lead, and also not something you could dodge, as far as i know (aside from obviously avoiding/sniping the defiler).

Yeah, i'm just saying... i didnt want to start a balance debate here. Just what my OP sais, a HOW-TO not a WHY DISCUSSION.
If people have a problem with EMP actually decloacking stuff, the Blizzard forums are the place to go! =)

Aren't... DT's like "one with the void" and thats why they're invisible?
How does an electromagnetic pulse stop you from being "one with the void" ?

EMP in bw drained 100% shields, in sc2 it deals a maximum of 100 damage to shields.

I have a question about this, how long does EMP reveal cloacked units? I assume it's not permanent?

since this is a non-whining question, i'll return for this one xD
didnt measure the exact timing, but an observer will get cloaked again after approx. 5-7 seconds. enough time to kill it!

I guess I'm a little confused. Since when did people not believe that EMP de-cloaks.... It's always been this way as far as I know.
