Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

Well, you confused me... so she was born male and made a cirurgy to become female? that's why she is a real woman now? I prefer call her "fake woman" xD

@Whiteness
Just go educate yourself on the subject, instead of using your ignorance as an excuse to insult people.

I think you've shown him enough patience, Iyerbeth. Time for a mod to show him the door.

I assumed it was a misspelling of the word surgery.

So I'm sorry if I cover old ground? But this is a long-ass thread and I don't see a thread search function
I would love to hear some thoughts from LGB-TL peoples on some of the exploration of gender/sexuality in indiegames recently. Firstly the portrayal and progression of the gay couple in Christine Love's 'don't take it personally, babe, it just ain't your story.'. Has anyone had an experience like this? From either person's perspective and within and without a school environment. I don't want to spoil the experience for people who haven't played it yet (it's free! and awesome! Play everything by Love!) ^_^. I mostly want to know how much people relate to these games and how accurate a portrayal they are of what LGBT people go through, assuming they are being experienced by someone straight. By 'these games' I am also thinking of Anna Anthropy's work as a MTF transexual.
I also wanted to ask why people think there seems (to me at least) to be an under-representation of gay men and FTM transexual gamedevs developing specifically about their gender/sexuality? I realise I have only mentioned one lesbian and one MTF(+lesbian) person but they are fairly popular and productive and I have noticed other devs mentioned on their twitter feeds. I guess it is too small a sample to draw any real conclusions. Still, I would love to play some games on gay/FTM as I feel it would be a significantly different enough experience than lesbian/MTF, in terms of coming to terms with/becoming accepted.
Last thing, quote from a gender studies dept. blog, + Show Spoiler +"... the hyper-masculinity of popular video games appealed to young people like Fenton who felt ostracized for not being masculin enough and repressed their feminine traits in favor of over-masculinizing themselves. Of course, Fenton and her colleagues did eventually express their real desires and did not stay overly masculine." Does anyone feel like they have a similar reason for getting into gaming during adolescence (escaping masculinity/femininity issues due to either LGB or T)? Anyone get into gaming after the fact?
Thanks for your time! Sorry for segueing into transexual issues and hoping I have managed to ask the questions i meant to :D xx

I wouldnt think it necessary to have game which target exclusively LGBT players because, for many, in my opinion, their sexuality is not a dominant part of their identity. And I dont think the experience would be that different, unless the content itself has a lot to do with LGBT adolescence and whatnot. A heterosexual designer could make a game about such an issue with nearly as much ease as a homosexual one. And that historical art, for example; the sexuality of the artists are not reflected in the art itself, yet all the most prominent pieces of art we see are as good one another. A video-game is not so different.
On a side note, I really dont find it necessary to put an LGBT centric element in a video-game just for the sake of it, because it usually breaks the flow and sense of the game.
|
I'm not really talking about an LGBT element in this case, more LGBT authors expressing themselves through the medium of games and I was just looking for how other people connected with these. Also, the issues I am thinking about would not be easily explored by a heterosexual designer (I believe) because I am talking about the emotions that people go through rather than, say, just a videogamey discussion about gay marriage. 'Flow' and 'sense' i feel don't really come into it when talking about stuff like anna anthropy / christine love's work as they are not intended to be pieces of straight-up entertainment. Or rather, the flow and sense just become elements for the author to use to put across their message. I guess using the term 'game' is just misleading. 'Interactive Fiction' is less catchy, though

Hi there I am totally new on here although familiar with SC1/2 for many years. So I guess I am just saying hello and glad to be part of a game that not only entertains me but also allows me to interact with people of like mind. Irish but live in South East UK ;-)

Are there any (openly) gay sc2 pros? Is homosexuality generally accepted in Korea or is it stigmatized?

Does Lastshadow count? Fairly certain he said he's gay on fb recently.

no one is open about it, unfortunately, although there are a few. It is also generally frowned upon in korea, but from what I've heard, the internet generation (30 years old and under) is rapidly becoming more tolerant.
