Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

If you do go out to a bar by yourself, don't get so drunk that you can be pushed into a cubicle for a blowjob. Just sayin'.

Most clubs have attendants in the bathroom to prevent just those sorts of shenanigans.

I actually write about him a bunch of pages back, I am pretty sure he is too, and has admitted so, but I cant seem to find where I saw that.

Wish he'd post here He'd get a lot more fans

I'd be really careful about calling out specific people without very clear evidence. If they are gay and haven't come out yet, then there's a reason for that and we need to respect it.
I'm sure yall have good memories and you are remembering what you read correctly, but I think it would be wise to make sure we don't speculate at all. Especially with something as sensitive as this.
I'm just remembering when I was in the closet and people kept calling me gay, I was torn between going ape shit and crying half the time. Let's swear to never inflict that on our players!

Just look out for your own interests and the "anything goes" atmosphere will work in your favor.

I'm 99% confident that Nick (lastshadow) is bi. When i made my coming out, i was hanging out with him & inka alot (Summer 2008) and he told to some of us that he was :-P

You are missing the point here mate. I couldn't give a flying fuck about wether ppl come here for the NaDa's body thread or the latest Sc2 BO's. Most people dont', we care about the content per say.
Point is, you are making yourself more of a minority than you already are by saying "Hello, not only are we here for the Sc2 related stuff but we also came to trade stories about being a HOMOSEXUAL". Places like TL and alike imo is a place where we all come and share the passion for Sc2, I am happy playing a competetive 1v1 with someone online unknowing if he is a neo nazi or a homo or a teacher or a fucking cocaine addict, I just know we both like to play starcraft. I am sure there are places on the internet for gay men to discuss coming out or being gay, and trust me I am happy those places exist. But I dont think labeling yourself as gay sc2 players is a good thing.
Or do you think we should have a "Hi, I am a nazi sc2 player" thread aswell if I thought we needed one? Or a "Hello, I am a sc2 player that also likes tomatoes" thread? No we fucking don't, why? Because nobody gives a fuck in the end. Hell, I might even be a dwarf sc2 player, but that doesnt give me right to make a thread about it to feel that somehow I am special.
And whilst we are on the topic, I have more than one gay mate, and from what I've discussed with them we have come to the conclussion that most gay people just makes it harder on themselves. It's 2011 ffs, it's not as hard being gay as you would like for it to sound. I know IM gonna get a lot of hate for saying this but really, you are just as bad as some other groups of people who try to make it out to be ohh soooooo hard when in reality you are just limiting yourselves. So instead of fucking labeling yourselves like this, grow the fuck up.

I see where your coming from here. I agree partially but you are making the mistake to assume that we are ALL like that. Yes, there are gays who are all herp-derp on everyone else (straight and homo alike), that need to shout to the whole world (who doesnt give a fuck, as you said) that they are infact gay. They also want to feel more special and unique for the fact that they are gay: This causes them to draw a social line with other, usually straight, people which gives these gays a certain prejudice or false hate for the ones on the other side of the "line". Again, this will cause the latter people to hate said gay, which just ends up in a goddam hate loop created by those dam gays just because they wanted to feel special or w/e.
Let me tell you this: EVERYONE (straight and gay) hates these types of gays because they only make the gay community look worst. Anyway, related mroe specifically to what you said: Currently, the tolerance for gays or any other minority is far, far better than what i ever used to be before, but still, hate will always exist as long as man does, so there is still some (but not a lot) difficulty that gays will need to handle in order to be "ok" (I say this vaguely because it is very different for everyone). Although, as a small side, it actually ISNT as easy to come out as it sounds, seriously.
But as to the creation of this thread; I think you are again slightly biaised by generalisation. This thread wasnt made to seperate the gays from the straights, as you might imply, or try and make a new movement within the whole community about gay-awareness. You dont see us spamming messages about us being gay in other threads or something. We keep to ourselves and to each other so we, and those who DO give a fuck, can come here and chat. Also, unlike tomatoes and Neo Nazis, homosexuality IS a major social factor these days (if it's also a problem, that is debatable but I think people tend to exagerrate it's problematic presence in our world, they just want to whine about it for the fact of whinning). I would compare it to your parents. To YOU, they matter but to us they do not or atleast we dont need them to matter. So, in this situation, your "parents" (metaphorically) are instead all the homosexuals who also play Sc2 and they themselves are the children of this said sub-community. In this case, WE care about it, but YOU dont need to.

If being Nazi was considered acceptable I don't see a problem with someone making a thread so that nazi people can link up... the issue is well it's not. And yes of course nobody cares if you like tomatoes, there's no bound to make there.
So please stop using ridiculous and maybe offending comparisons.
If you want to make yourself clear you can compare this thread to "Girls Sc2 players" or "Over 50yo SC2 players"; make fair comparison. And really I don't have an issue with girls trying to bond on TL, or old people. Now you might not like what the people in the thread talk about (which I don't have much clue I just went randomly in this thread), that is another issue.
|
Most of the people who post these "I don't like these threads" rants end up breaking several of the TL forum rules in the process. We don't need to respond to them. The Nazi mods will take care of them...
cwut I did thar?
P,S, I think TL needs a rule that confirming Godwin's law is not allowed.

I totally agree man!11!1!! It's like when assholes come to gay bars and label themselves as SC2 players! I cant stand people like that. Who the hell wants to talk to people about more than one interest at a time? It's like these people think that communities and sub communities can co-exist without someone coming in and insulting them and rightfully comparing them to Nazis and coke addicts!
On a serious note, this post made me sad.

I detest people who label themselves in situations that doesnt have a need for it. Is that clear enough for you?

To the question of why label the thread "gay SC players", because the term "SC player" and "person on TL" are more or less interchangeable. The majority of people on this site play some sort of flavour of SC, and those that haven't or no longer, probably recognise themselves as part of the main corpus of this website, as people that at least know of SC. In addition, I'll restate what I said at an attempt at clarity. People clearly do care if there are gay SC players, in the same way people clearly do care about if there are SC players who like Kpop. The original post I responded to seem to suggest that we should only talk about playing Starcraft on this site, and that certainly talking about your sexuality was a waste of time. I aimed to highlight that we do more on this site than just talk about Starcraft itself, not including talking about Starcraft and sexuality. Furthermore I want to argue that it is worthwhile to talk to about your sexuality with people that you share something in common, because gay people are a minority, and as bad as this sounds, it makes you different (try talking to a straight person about how they came out of the closet for example, its a non-conversation) Being a gamer or playing SC is just some comforting common ground. An icebreaker. On October 22 2011 11:02 GDR wrote: This seems like a juvenile argument. I mean, who cares? Maybe, but I rose to it, because I wanted to show that and why people care. Ok, lets be honest, I chose coke addicts and nazis to provoke, I'm bored. However, argument still stands. Let me spell it out to you since you seem either to emotionally unstable or stupid to understand; I detest people who label themselves in situations that doesnt have a need for it. Is that clear enough for you?

I will just speak to my own experience to give perspective on the issue. It is 2011, I am 27 (just turned) and my dad disowned me when I was 17 for being gay, this still happens today. I was out on my own and was working 60 hours a week and at one of my jobs a co-worker who was previously cool with me heard my friend indicate that I was gay and started making my life really hard. I was working retail at the time and needed every penny just to get by since I had no support so I was too scared to rock the boat and this still happens today.
Basically the reason why I think it is SO necessary to be upfront about being gay is because it is so polarizing that the second somebody knows they could turn on you in a big way and the closer you get to them before they know the more violent this reaction tends to be. Keeping the people who judge out of your life is a safety precaution and honesty is the only sure way to do this.
There are lots of other great reasons why this thread should exist but the notion that "LOL 2011 is ez pz time for da gayz. St0p ur whinin" is not a reason not to have one.
