Don't post in this thread to say "gay gamers are like everyone else, why do they have a special thread?" It is something that has been posted numerous times, and this isn't the place for that discussion.
For regular posters, don't quote the trolls. |

Were all here cause we like SC2 enough said. You are patently wrong. If we were all here just because we liked SC2, never mind BW, the general forum of TL wouldn't exist, along with the blog section. In short, while you may not care about things that are seemingly extra-mural, people do. Why label the thread "Gay SC players" then? Why drag SC into it at all, could have namned it "Gay people on TL" or similar. To the question of why label the thread "gay SC players", because the term "SC player" and "person on TL" are more or less interchangeable. The majority of people on this site play some sort of flavour of SC, and those that haven't or no longer, probably recognise themselves as part of the main corpus of this website, as people that at least know of SC. And can you imagine if someone came in here and said, "hello I'm gay but I only ever use TL for its HoN thread" Do you think the collective response of the thread would be GTFO? I think not. In addition, I'll restate what I said at an attempt at clarity. People clearly do care if there are gay SC players, in the same way people clearly do care about if there are SC players who like Kpop. The original post I responded to seem to suggest that we should only talk about playing Starcraft on this site, and that certainly talking about your sexuality was a waste of time. I aimed to highlight that we do more on this site than just talk about Starcraft itself, not including talking about Starcraft and sexuality. Furthermore I want to argue that it is worthwhile to talk to about your sexuality with people that you share something in common, because gay people are a minority, and as bad as this sounds, it makes you different (try talking to a straight person about how they came out of the closet for example, its a non-conversation) Being a gamer or playing SC is just some comforting common ground. An icebreaker. On October 22 2011 11:02 GDR wrote: This seems like a juvenile argument. I mean, who cares? Maybe, but I rose to it, because I wanted to show that and why people care. You are missing the point here mate. I couldn't give a flying fuck about wether ppl come here for the NaDa's body thread or the latest Sc2 BO's. Most people dont', we care about the content per say. Point is, you are making yourself more of a minority than you already are by saying "Hello, not only are we here for the Sc2 related stuff but we also came to trade stories about being a HOMOSEXUAL". Places like TL and alike imo is a place where we all come and share the passion for Sc2, I am happy playing a competetive 1v1 with someone online unknowing if he is a neo nazi or a homo or a teacher or a fucking cocaine addict, I just know we both like to play starcraft. I am sure there are places on the internet for gay men to discuss coming out or being gay, and trust me I am happy those places exist. But I dont think labeling yourself as gay sc2 players is a good thing. Or do you think we should have a "Hi, I am a nazi sc2 player" thread aswell if I thought we needed one? Or a "Hello, I am a sc2 player that also likes tomatoes" thread? No we fucking don't, why? Because nobody gives a fuck in the end. Hell, I might even be a dwarf sc2 player, but that doesnt give me right to make a thread about it to feel that somehow I am special. And whilst we are on the topic, I have more than one gay mate, and from what I've discussed with them we have come to the conclussion that most gay people just makes it harder on themselves. It's 2011 ffs, it's not as hard being gay as you would like for it to sound. I know IM gonna get a lot of hate for saying this but really, you are just as bad as some other groups of people who try to make it out to be ohh soooooo hard when in reality you are just limiting yourselves. So instead of fucking labeling yourselves like this, grow the fuck up. I totally agree man!11!1!! It's like when assholes come to gay bars and label themselves as SC2 players! I cant stand people like that. Who the hell wants to talk to people about more than one interest at a time? It's like these people think that communities and sub communities can co-exist without someone coming in and insulting them and rightfully comparing them to Nazis and coke addicts! On a serious note, this post made me sad. Ok, lets be honest, I chose coke addicts and nazis to provoke, I'm bored. However, argument still stands. Let me spell it out to you since you seem either to emotionally unstable or stupid to understand; I detest people who label themselves in situations that doesnt have a need for it. Is that clear enough for you?
This thread makes me so very happy I have my report button (for about a month now! )
Because honestly, when someone comes into a thread ALL-OUT SAYING I came in here to provoke and irritate...?
In other news, look at that streamers list! jinro, hero, polt, lots of talent at one time. ^^ I am disappointed that there is no person for brood war at all though. Marine needs to get on there! <3
Oh, and in good news, the progress in coming out to friends is going further every few days. I can now name my roommate and 3 friends who know, and it's only going up from there. <3 Thanks a lot to this thread and the people in it who AREN'T trolls for helping me out with confidence (Despite not meaning to! <3)

You guys need to stop feeding the idiots. If they can't read the first post of the thread or say generally stupid stuff, then they will get warned/banned. Replying to their stupidity only validates their silly posts.

I'd bet my life homosexual gamers have a very different experience in the community than heterosexual ones considering how incredibly homophobic online gaming can be. Look at the recent Blizzard controversy for example. The most common insult is "fag" and I recall seeing a couple videos where a guy made a gamertag saying he was gay and played some Halo 3 and was getting teamkilled, threatened over teamchat, etc.
Having an insular thread where they can discuss the relation between their sexuality and gaming experience isn't a bad thing seeing as no one has to view it or post in it. It isn't thrusting their sexuality on you or anybody. It's quite different from opening a game with "hi im a gay sc2 player".

my biggest problem is that I think I'm bi, but theres no one who plays on my team that lives around here :/. so I um, can't really experiment.

tbone, I assure you, you probably meet a gay or bi guy every day, likely even more.

Quite true indeed.
But the number of time you KNOW that a stranger walking besides you is gay or bi...
It is very, very slim.

I've been thinking about it for a while. For me, I've constructed a line inside my head, which distinguishes homophobic behaviour in online gaming communities: (note that I don't swan around online as gaygamer24 or something, I'm hardly provocative) on one side of the line, there is smack talk, which if you've ever played HoN, occurs all the time, insults to everyone by everyone, featuring any negativity that you can think of. This for me, I don't care about at all, if someone says that I should go suck a dick and die of AIDS while I'm playing HoN, I don't find it offensive, why the fuck should I care what this piss weasel has to say? He doesn't know me, I don't know him, there is an incredibly minor chance of repercussions and no commitment to our interaction.
On the otherside of the line, there is actual homophobia, and while I have been mulling it over, the only difference between this and smack talk, is the level of commitment involved. A good example of this from my own life is when I played TF2 religiously, I used to play on the server of well known UK based server. The general attitude of the server was blokey (Like a frat), but I enjoyed playing there, good players, good maps, good community albeit for a couple of members who where came off as incredibly homophobic. This is what I mean by varying levels of commitment, I would play on their servers daily, say hello to all the regular players, who know me by first name, generally chit chatted about what we did that day, but if a homophobic guy was online, I didn't play. I felt like I had been denied a pleasant place to chill out. Another example would be if day9 started espousing homophobic remarks tomorrow, of course I would stop watching, but at the same time I would have felt betrayed, as a long time fan of his work, rather than if I tuned in for the first time.
Is it possible for smack talk to transform into actual homophobia? Maybe. If I didn't play HoN with a bunch of good natured people on my team, then I think the stench from that rotten community may have gotten to me.
So maybe its bad in the US, but I personally don't have much bad experiences playing online in the UK.
Also I love that people hate on the thread, there is nothing which cannot provoke some people I guess.

The word homophobia shouldn't exist because its perfectly natural for people to have concerns and dislikes about something as biologically unnatural as being gay.

"Science" like this is cute because most other species in nature have homosexuals so to call it unnatural is pretty silly.
But you know...who needs science when hatred can give you all the answers?

As soon as someone says something you don't agree with, they are trolls.. interesting logic. ANd back to the unnatural thing, do a male and a male make a baby.. no. 1500 species have been observed to show "homosexual behaviours" out of 1.4 billion?

There are some GREAT one liners in that blog.
My favorite:
Do you think Jane Goodall ever wanted to throw the feces back at the monkeys? I know I do.
Also:
Uh, enjoy vag, pusshound?
is officially going into my repertoire.

I loved that entire blog series, it's hilarious. XD
Also, it was really neat to hear about his realization on why there are LGBT gaming threads/communities. :3
Also also, why are there so many haters posting in this thread... >_<;

By the way, LiquidTyler resurrected a HILARIOUS thing that happened in 2009. Did you know iNcontroL was the desire of the bear community at one point?

Sorry if this is a repost but I just found it today and my god...my god.
Edit: And Anna Prosser has one of the best forum posts I think I've ever seen. I didn't know she was so awesome.

Wow, I am extremely offended, who are you to deny the love that I have with my partner? Are you just jealous because you don't know how to satisfy a man?

User was banned for this post. Too bad humans are natural and therefore homosexuality is natural. Good one.
