Face facts, I don't have the time to put in getting to top 200, etc, respect to those who are, but for me this is a game, keep challenging myself but just at the worst at a level that everyone reasonably knows what they are doing with basic comms down.

so I play a lot to get better, and the only way to justify that I actually got better is to have a higher mmr

I mean I know myself I'll sometimes just turn on autopilot and just run around killing jungle camps or something else pointless if the game/my team makes me lose interest. I'm hardly the worst offender in that regard (I dont insult or intentionally feed ever) but denying that I'm not always playing my best, or sometimes even close to my best, would be to lie to myself. I think that goes for just about all people reading this.

The main thing I want to be is a well rounded player that can do a lot of different things, which sometimes hurts my MMR when I try to break out a new hero. But I would rather be keep the variety up than spam ogre every game just to get a higher number. Though there are days when I am like “fuck this shit, I am ganking all game and someone is going to win a lane or I am going to die trying”.

But then you get PPD with a MoM/basher Treant, so it all levels out.

Not every single game, but overall the games are noticeably better.

When I was maining support I would do things like see that we had another big stun on the team, see the enemy team had a vulnerable mid, and buy smoke for a level one gank on mid. And no one would come with me. Or I would try to deward and there would be no fucking wards. Warn everyone that Axe is going to try to eat our safelane and no one will TP, we will lose the tower predictably, and people around the map will go "wtf safelane." I once tried to get a mid-game smoke going and had someone tell me "this isn't TI." In the trench, basic tactical maneuvers are TI-level play. People have no concept of how to minimize courier use. I've gotten my bottle at 1:30 and found the courier is all the way out at our safelane tower, after explicitly asking people not to use the courier before I got my bottle. Safelane people ferry side-shop shit to themselves. They mail themselves items one component at a time. If you tell your team that the enemy is probably roshing, they just fucking walk in regardless of our ability to fight it or even how many people are there. Folks yell at you for not being at a fight you had no chance of being at when they chose the fight. People think it's needy to ask for courier upgrades. Supports will continue to ward both runes at 40 minutes. Carries can't last hit. Most mids try to gank way too much and everyone not a mid thinks that is your primary function and you are failing if you aren't doing it, regardless of what hero you are playing or the strategic situation. Folks pick double-stealth lineups (and then people will build Shadowblades). People play Necro as support. You have to explain what a "roaming support" is. No one knows how to tri-lane. Item builds are terrible. Farm allocation is a mysterious concept. I could go on, and on. Yeah, there's a ton of bullshit at the top too. But in the trench the quality of Dota is frequently just bad. You actually have to adjust your mindset to the idea that your teammates are probably not going to do smart things. They're going to quietly turn around when you think they are coming your direction for a gank, after you've committed. When you say "let's rosh now," they're going to wait until the Rosh window is totally and obviously closed to enter the pit (at which point they will definitely do so, to tragic results). They're going to disengage from winnable fights at full health, blow disables before big ults come out, and waste your ult by acting ready to fight and bailing as soon as you pop it. In the trench the frequency with which you can play Dota as a team game is so much less than in the higher tiers you want to climb just so you can get to good Dota, even if it's not consistent. Even if your teammates are sometimes totally fucking inexplicably bad for their MMR, even if the MMR disparities within a game multiply tenfold. Because occasionally, you get to play Real Dota. [e] I forgot one of my very favorite examples of how trench dota is solo dota: Spirit Breakers who will regularly charge a hero near you, causing you to move in for a kill, and then wordlessly cancel their charge with nothing changed about the tactical situation except your dangerous forward movement. Then wonder why you tell them that's a bad thing they need to stop doing.

For me, it's the chance to play the best and learn by getting my ass kicked. pretty much this for me. i am super SUPER competitive and i love the steep learning curve. so i naturally gravitated towards games like sc2 and dota..dota more so because of the team play element. so i want to get better, which naturally follows an MMR increase. EDIT: i do wanna touch on what FHDH said.. i am also sick of people not having a basic grasp of their heroes…like look up a fucking guide if you're gonna play a high impact role. if you make a minor mistake in judgement, whatever. but if you're picking a hero and are demonstrating you have literally no idea how to play your role, i have no patience for you.
