In the lower pane of BlueScreenView's program window, see if it highlights some more file names beside those "monitor.sys" and "rdbss.sys". It might give you a hint about some driver (or its hardware) behaving badly. The one that is in common with both is ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.exe+c0738 fffff800`02666000 fffff800`02c4b000 0x005e5000 0x521ea035 8/28/2013 7:13:25 PM Microsoft® Windows® Operating System NT Kernel & System 6.1.7601.18247 (win7sp1_gdr.130828-1532) Microsoft Corporation C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe For the one on the 3rd there is a 3rd one NDProxy.sys All those files mentioned seem to be Windows files. Perhaps something got corrupted after a crash in the past? Windows 7 and 8 both have a feature to check and fix corrupted Windows files. To access that, you open a command prompt window as Administrator and use this command: sfc /scannow If that does not find anything, it might be hardware or its drivers not working right. I don't know how to diagnose that best. Maybe you remember doing something that might be the cause? Did you play with BIOS settings or graphics driver settings for example? Something you might want to look into is the "driver verifier" method that's built into Windows. You can find guides for that online. Using it is pretty involved. If there really are problems, you will experience a lot of BSODs. You might also not even be able to boot into Windows while the driver verifier stuff is enabled, so you can get somewhat trapped with a broken Windows. You really need to read a guide if you want to use the Windows driver verifier to diagnose your problems. I ran the scan and it found nothing wrong. I haven't played with bios settings or graphics stuff in ages. I have been having hardware issues (2 HDD's died at the same time) and speedfan takes ages to start for some reason as of late (havent timed it but probably 30 seconds or more), which could be an indicator of a motherboard issue? Will otherwise look into the driver verifying thing Thanks for the help so far. +1 on the Driver Verifier method. Windows basically throws out errors from drivers and other system-critical files if at all possible. A BSOD is what occurs when Windows can't handle what happened - if a driver does something weird and Windows does not understand how to recover from the error. Driver Verifier is nice because it will cause a BSOD immediately even on a recoverable error. This is desirable because it is much more likely to catch the real culprit behind the BSOD - the one that began the chain of fatal errors rather than the thing that ended it. Be warned somewhat though, like he suggested - just make 100% sure you know how to boot into Safe Mode with Networking so that you can remove the driver verifier parameters if anything goes wrong. For example, if you have an unsigned driver from an unknown source, running with driver verifier enabled can cause your computer to immediately BSOD when you boot into Windows normally. I had this happen to me with the driver for "Virtual Audio Cable", an old sound-duplication application/driver. I gave it a shot, and windows doesnt even start up when I have verifier enabled. I was able to boot into safe mode to turn it off though.
I followed these directions: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lockup-debug-how/65331-using-driver-verifier-identify-issues-drivers.html
So since safe mode started up and all of the MS drivers weren't tested it should mean that it is a non-OS related driver, right? And so from there I should narrow down the list of drivers to test? Or is it something else since it wouldnt boot at all (no BSOD).

I see the same delay for SpeedFan at Windows start-up. If I start SpeedFan while Windows is already running for a while, it starts a lot faster. I suspect while you are already able to do things on the desktop, some sort of Windows services that SpeedFan needs are still being launched in the background for a minute or two. Ah, I see.

Whenever I open teamliquid in any browser my internet browser just freezes (both firefox and chrome.) Usually firefox gives a message about a script that doesn't work. I can't remember the exact name, but it is somthing with top banner, ad and the number 32. I am on my phone right now, but I can recreate it if necessary It is ONLY on teamliquid btw. Thanks in advance. Edit. What I mean with only on teamliquid is that I only have issues browsing teamliquid, any other website works fine Same problem here. Started happening about 8 hours ago, since then TL.net has froze 3x (always on the main page) in Chrome. The entire program is completely responsive except to commands to close either chrome entirely or commands to do anything on/with the broken TL.net tab. I have been generally just going about my business in the other tabs. However, the only way to fix the issue by terminating Chrome's task in the task manager. I suspect a bad ad is at work or possibly a bad ad interaction. I use AdBlock for Chrome, but TL.net is whitelisted, so I always see ads on the front page. However, in all three cases where it has froze, the top (banner) ad has been blank (the rest of the page loads fine, but no elements are clickable). I browse over 1000 websites daily (full-time student/work, both entirely online, so basically I live online), and this is the only site and instance I have ever encountered this specific error (page is structurally intact, all of the content is present, and it has basic functionality - i.e. scrolling, moving the tab, etc - but you can't interact with page elements). I'm running with the developer console open now, so hopefully when it occurs again I will be able to catch the culprit in the act and report back.
Update: it happened again and the developer console froze too :<
Even going to options and viewing page source - the "view-source:www.teamliquid.net" tab froze before loading the text.

Are the twitch EU datacenters malfunctioning or something? They said they're up and running, and in December it worked well. But it's come to the point where I cannot be arsed to go to twitch.tv anymore except for a tournament maybe, because it's just so laggy. It streams well (In any quality, I have ~65mbps down internet) for about ten seconds, then it either turns great and says ''loading video'' or I, obviously, get a cog wheel in the middle of my screen and the stream freezes. Anyone else with this problem still..? R1CH's plugin has also been retired I see.

[Question] I am sharing my internet with 5 other guys (both wired and wireless). Recently I have been having really high pings and "request timed out" when I ping to 203.113.131.1 (not sure what this is, but I use this to see my network condition). Even when I disabled Wi-Fi and pulled all the plugs on my router (except mine), the problem still persisted. Am pretty sure someone is downloading something. Is there any way to find out who is doing it or a way to cut their connection?
+ Show Spoiler +
normally the "time=" should be 5ms or 6ms.

Can you not access the logs on your router? I'm assuming its a basic SOHO.
|
If you blocked everyone else's access, I don't see how it would be someone downloading something. You can use a program like NetMeter or Window's Resource Monitor to monitor your own PC's network usage.
|
I'm not sure if it's relevant, but that exact thing happened to me just yesterday. In my case, it turned out that we'd run out of download quota, and I was suddenly on 64 kbps.
Ping requests have a very low network priority, so if you are using a high proportion of your available bandwidth, they will start to fail. This could be because someone is using your normal bandwidth downloading bulk torrents, or it could actually be because your bandwidth has changed.
Failing that obvious cause....
If the wifi is off and there are no other lan cables plugged in, it seems unlikely that it can be someone else running a download. The issue should be either your PC, the router, or the connection itself.
Do your housemates also have the same problem when plugged in? What do you get if you ping the router directly? ("Default gateway" under %ipconfig /all) When it's just you plugged into the router and running a pingtest, how much bandwidth does Resource Monitor say you are using?

What should I do with my new computer? My grandma dumped her old one when my dad got her a new one, and so I took it off her hands. It's a fairly old computer and I just spent an hour and a half cleaning it out (omg it has never been cleaned out before. It had spiderwebs and dead bugs and shit in it - so disgusting). My problem is that there isn't really room on my desk for another monitor. I'd have to set it up on another desk across the room, but the outlets I need are pretty far away so that's not the best option.
Can I connect 2 computers to my main monitor (or the computers to each other) and have, like, increased processing power/speed or something? I checked my monitor (which is a tv-hybrid) in the back, and it only has one output for VGA cable (which my main computer is hooked into), but it also has an output for HDMI. I could get a VGA-HDMI adapter and hook it up to that slot, but I don't see much good it would do me to have the two computers running like that when I find I can do what I need on my main computer anyways.
I was planning on seeing how well the old computer would handle streaming SC2 on my main computer, but Idk how to set up both computers to do that (or how well it'd even work anyways). I suppose if I knew how to do that and was able to set it up, I'd try it out.
So what cords and stuff do I need to connect my computers to each other? Is what I'm asking even possible? If not, any suggestions to what I should do with my computer? Do people ever have 2 computers hooked up to one monitor for any reason?
|
It's possible to use the old computer to encode your stream while you play on your main computer, but it's trivial without knowing the specs of both computers.
|
Unfortunately I won't be able to get the specs of one computer because I only have one vga cable right now hooked into my main computer, and the adapter won't come off so I can't fit it into the other one to check it.
My main comp specs are:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5600+ 2.80 GHz 2.00 GB 32-bit Operating System
I know it doesn't help just giving the one computer spec. The other computer is 10+ years old and pretty shitty anyways. Runs on Windows XP it's so old. I talked to my friend about it and he's thinking I really shouldn't get involved with trying to force everything work together so I can stream shit. He's probably right.
I'm just wondering what I should do with this leftover computer right now.
|
Yeah, streaming will be a giant pain (if not impossible) on your main PC, so a second encoding PC would be helpful. Unfortunately, it sounds like your other PC is going to be significantly slower than your main PC, so it's not really worth the effort. Streaming with two PCs isn't exactly child's play for a novice anyway.
Time to upgrade :D

Question regarding GPU overclocking: I have the 7950 and with the stock memory clock of 1250mhz, the VDDC will go down to ~0.995 when idling, but if I overclock the memory even by just 5 mhz, the VDDC will stay constant at whatever voltage I used even when idling at the desktop, is this normal?

[Question] where can i get TL calender to import into my google calender (scv / ical)?

Out of curiosity, what GPU setup would be needed to do 1440px3 eyefinity on modern titles?
|
I have an i5 2500 3.30ghz and my GPU is and old amd radeon 6700hd card. I dip below 60 fps in longer game and its very annoying will getting a newer video card stop the lag ? This is from playing on low setting too.

If you're talking about Starcraft II then the answer would be no. The game is CPU dependent.

A pair of 290's or 780's would be my starting point.
290x is only about ~3-4% faster than 290 clock for clock and is DEFINITELY not worth the price premium, dual 780ti probably not worth the price premium either (though they're more like 15% stronger than 780 clock for clock)
It depends greatly on what you want for graphical settings and FPS (med settings ~60fps is not exactly max settings 100+) but it's far enough up on demands to limit you to only a couple of options anyway. Waiting til later this year for new flagships would also be a compelling option because of that.

Double-confirming, also on low it's pretty much a joke. My old gtx260 could run much better than low settings and be CPU bound in large fights. 1920x1080 low, oc'd 770 is at single digit % load at 100fps..
With sufficient graphics, it's very likely that you can run most settings, like shaders, on max without impacting performance in fights notably as long as you keep reflections and physics off, effects ~medium (turning them on/up creates a lot or even basically all of the performance loss going to max settings)

So basically the I5 2500 isnt good enough and I should buy a new rig ?

So basically the I5 2500 isnt good enough and I should buy a new rig ? You probably should not do that. The difference to the newest i5-4670 might end up not being very noticeable. The improvements over the years is not that much for CPUs.
You also can't improve SC2 by choosing the more expensive CPUs like i7 and the CPUs for the LGA2011 socket. Those are all not any better than the i5. All use cores with similar performance and SC2 just wants the fastest cores, does not care about the additional features of the i7 etc.
If you look at new stuff, you would have to look into what you'd need for overclocking. That's what could make a noticeable difference in SC2, but it feels a little strange to pay that much for SC2 while your current i5-2500 is still perfectly fine for everything else.

OC'd 4670k is a pretty big jump in performance in sc2 and x264 vs stock 2500 indeed - more than noticable, but it's a big of a pain to do if you just want it for one game.
According to anandtech, x264 bench, stock 2500k does ~10.6fps on pass 2 - i'm capable of like 19fps at OC with haswell (without hyperthreading, so basically i5) - though stock sandy bridge to haswell is really questionable
