2024-25 Off-season Community Weekly Cups
Week of March 3-9
by Wax
The first full week of March saw Clem put down herO's two week rebellion, taking a duo of weekly cup titles. However, the French Terran was brought down by a threat from within, as Liquid teammate Cure revealed vulnerabilities in Clem's off-race play to win the TLMC tournament.
In non 1v1 news, uThermal's burgeoning 2v2 circuit continued with its third monthly tournament, where the MaxPax-Spirit duo triumphed once more.

March 3: WardiTV Mondays #25
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/wardimon025.png)
After ceding ground to herO over the past few weeks,
Clem struck back by besting his Korean rival in WardiTV Mondays. Whereas standard Gateway + Robo units play was enough to push herO to victory in previous weeks, this time around Clem played just slightly better to take a 3-2 victory. Overall, the two players look to be very closely matched at the moment, with the outcome of any given BO5 feeling like a near coinflip VOD).

March 3: Monday Night Weeklies #7

Clem cashed in on a weekly double in Monday Night Weeklies, defeating both of his key rivals MaxPax and herO on his way to the title (VOD). This time, Clem really felt like the 'old' Clem (as in the Clem from three weeks ago), recording a 12-1 map score with his sole loss coming against herO.

March 3: PiGosaur Cup #21

With MaxPax and Clem retiring for the night, PiGosaur Cup ended up being a contest to see who could bring down
herO. Ultimately, it ended up being Creator who challenged herO in the finals, and he actually started off strong by winning a back-and-forth macro game on the opening map. However, herO quickly righted the ship, and took three straight wins off of his signature aggressive play (VOD).

March 4-9: WardiTV TLMC #20 Test Tournament by Monster Energy

The WardiTV TLMC Tournament put a slight twist on the usual 1v1 battles, with top players testing out sixteen brand new ladder map candidates from the TeamLiquid Map Contest. Make sure to catch up on the VODs and vote on which maps you want to see join the competitive map pool!
While this tournament initially projected to be a three way contest between the herO-Clem-MaxPax trinity (especially given the $3000 prize pool), we instead got one of the biggest upsets of the off-season as Cure toppled Clem 4-1 to claim the championship.
Clem had gone 5-0 in matches versus Cure since trading out his TvT for PvT in December, but you would hardly have known it from this one-sided series. The keys for Cure were the three middle games which he won in 9:09, 8:48, and 9:04 of in-game time, making Clem's usually ironclad defense look like papier-mâché.
Although Clem has an overwhelmingly positive record since switching to PvT, it's notable that GuMiho, Spirit, and Cure have all taken him down in events that were bigger than your usual weeklies.

March 9: uThermal 2v2 Circuit: March
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/thermy2v2_03.png)
The week wrapped up with the third installment in uThermal's monthly 2v2 circuit, which saw MaxPax and Spirit solidify their spot as the strongest 2v2 duo in SC2 with their third straight victory. That honor was definitely hard-earned, however, as SKillous and Elazer gave them a hellacious five-game fight in the finals (VOD).
Overall, it was my favorite series of the week, as we got away from the Phoenix-into-Skytoss meta and saw more varied strategies and entertaining games. It's highly recommended to anyone who wants a change of pace from the usual 1v1 weekly cup games.
