Hello all.
I've recently bought the Razer Banshee, I was excited when I first received it. When I used it for the first time it was coming along smoothly, until a huge blast of static emitted into my friends ears through Ventrilo. I can't blame him for arguing, I listened to the device, and I found that it was in fact emitting a terrible sound that I could only solve by unplugging the device and plugging it back in. The problem was solved temporarily. It occurred once again.
I came to the conclusion that the speakers were fine, but the microphone was absolutely rooted.
I live in Australia, therefore contacting Razer is very hard to do.
I previously attempted to email Razer, but they gave me terrible feedback, giving me methods to do that I had already checked or didn't work.
Here is what they said.
Can you please confirm if you have ran the firmware updater from Start > > Programs > Razer >Razer Starcraft 2 Banshee > Firmware updater? > > Are you able to let us know what USB devices you have on your system? > What is the serial number if your headset? > > Can you send us a screenshot of your Audio settings under Ventrilo? > > Is it happening only in Ventrilo? > > Can you uninstall the drivers and see if you have the same problem? > > Is the issue happening on other ports? What OS are you using? > Have you checked the headset on another system? > > Can I also check where you purchased the headset from? > > Please let us know the results.
I answered these and got no response after three weeks.
I am in desperate need for help. Please, help me out. This is a sort of last resort until I sell the headset.

Hi OtH! I've had banshees for about 2 months now and I had the EXACTLY same problem as you. At first my friends heared my voice crystal clear but the they would suddenly start screaming in agony 'cause of the same static you're experiencing! I thought that too that the headsets mic was busted and took the headset back to the store and they gave me new ones. But as soon as I got back home and plugged them in, the same started all over again..
So I figured out it wasn't the headset but my computer, to be more presice a software on my computer called VIA Hd Audiodeck, a program whitch came with my motherboard (asus P7P55D Evo I think) drivers. So I put ventrilo on while my friend was on and observed my processes. And I noticed that as soon as the VIA Hd thing popped up the static began.
So if you have this aforementioned program I'd suggest removing it. It might also be some other program but I can assure you it's not your mic
after I found this out and got my banshees working properly I can say they're the best headset I've ever had so don't give up on them mate! P.s I wrote this at work with my phone so sorry for grammar and spelling mistakes.. I'd be willing to help you via ventrilo if you need help!

Thanks! Been a long time lurker in the forums but when I saw this I thought now's my time to contribute at least something to this wonderful community. And this here is an issue that a lot of folks are having with Banshee headsets and Razer just doesn't have a solution to this. I figured out what was wrong with my headphones and I just hope that we can get this guys great headset working too!

@KristiS, does the microphone still work without the software?
|
Well at least my mic is working just perfect without any software. I think these softwares are for those audio devices which use the 3,5mm jack and since banshee has USB it needs only those Usb drivers to function properly and it has it's own mixing/equalization programme which can be downloaded from Razers site.
I atm don't even have that banshee mixer programme installed since I recently formatted my comp but the sound and APM lightning system still works perfectly so basically you need that just to set your preferences and then the headset remembers it from then on. It works just same even on another computer, must have somesort of built-in memory.
just out of curiosity, did you have the same mobo or the same programme on your comp?
|
Ahh,
No I didn't have the same board or programme, but I'm having difficulty finding any software interfering with the microphone or anything of that description.
|
If you go to your sound tab through control panel or by right clicking the speaker icon in your icon bar at the low right corner of your screen you should be able to see all your in- and output devices. Check if some of your devices are managed by some sort of programme which is not windows' own.. If there isn't any then try to just uninstall all previous sound drivers that you may have

Wow if what you said is true I can not wait to get home and check out my computer.
I have had the Banshee since December last year, and I have had this problem three different times. It would work for a couple of weeks then it would go crazy in my friends ear on skype, I sent it back twice and got new headsets. Right now I haven't experienced it in a while but I also just built a new pc so maybe it is some sort of program on the computer!
Just glad to see I am not the only one with Banshee problems
|
Well it seems like the only problem people are having with Banshees is this very same that we're having. At least I haven't found anyone with another problem so I hope this is the fix for the problem. In my case it helped so hoping the best for you guys too!
|
Mine are having the same problem! If i get up to fast and set them down hard the static appears and i can get rid of it by changing the outbound levels in vent! i don't know if that is a wire problem or its pure coincidence. any help would be nice ^.^!
|
This thread must live again! I've had the same problem with my Banshee since December, after trying it on various computers I still get that ridiculous microphone static every now and then.
Has anyone else found any programs that cause it?
|
I have had the same issue, nearly every time I put my headphones down my outbound from my mic turns into pure static. Only way to fix it is to either plug the headphones out and in again or disable the microphone and re-enable it. However I still don't know what the real problem is.
|
New computer and still same problem lol
|
Im getting this exact same problem, and it happens a few times a day. A fix would be so so good. Drives my friends on skype crazy... :/
|
I'm experiencing the exact same problem, but I can't find the program kristis was talking about, a fix would indeed be so great. I think the problem has something to do with starcraft 2(the headset seems to have issues when starcraft 2 iS on) and maybe even windows 7(i've seen several topics about this problem, and I see "windows 7" allot) Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
|
same problem guys!!i cant find the program as well. I am using a P67Extreme6..and i cant find the problem
