Hello all.
I've recently bought the Razer Banshee, I was excited when I first received it. When I used it for the first time it was coming along smoothly, until a huge blast of static emitted into my friends ears through Ventrilo. I can't blame him for arguing, I listened to the device, and I found that it was in fact emitting a terrible sound that I could only solve by unplugging the device and plugging it back in. The problem was solved temporarily. It occurred once again.
I came to the conclusion that the speakers were fine, but the microphone was absolutely rooted.
I live in Australia, therefore contacting Razer is very hard to do.
I previously attempted to email Razer, but they gave me terrible feedback, giving me methods to do that I had already checked or didn't work.
Here is what they said.
Can you please confirm if you have ran the firmware updater from Start > > Programs > Razer >Razer Starcraft 2 Banshee > Firmware updater? > > Are you able to let us know what USB devices you have on your system? > What is the serial number if your headset? > > Can you send us a screenshot of your Audio settings under Ventrilo? > > Is it happening only in Ventrilo? > > Can you uninstall the drivers and see if you have the same problem? > > Is the issue happening on other ports? What OS are you using? > Have you checked the headset on another system? > > Can I also check where you purchased the headset from? > > Please let us know the results.
I answered these and got no response after three weeks.
I am in desperate need for help. Please, help me out. This is a sort of last resort until I sell the headset.

Hi OtH! I've had banshees for about 2 months now and I had the EXACTLY same problem as you. At first my friends heared my voice crystal clear but the they would suddenly start screaming in agony 'cause of the same static you're experiencing! I thought that too that the headsets mic was busted and took the headset back to the store and they gave me new ones. But as soon as I got back home and plugged them in, the same started all over again..
So I figured out it wasn't the headset but my computer, to be more presice a software on my computer called VIA Hd Audiodeck, a program whitch came with my motherboard (asus P7P55D Evo I think) drivers. So I put ventrilo on while my friend was on and observed my processes. And I noticed that as soon as the VIA Hd thing popped up the static began.
So if you have this aforementioned program I'd suggest removing it. It might also be some other program but I can assure you it's not your mic
after I found this out and got my banshees working properly I can say they're the best headset I've ever had so don't give up on them mate! P.s I wrote this at work with my phone so sorry for grammar and spelling mistakes.. I'd be willing to help you via ventrilo if you need help!

Thanks! Been a long time lurker in the forums but when I saw this I thought now's my time to contribute at least something to this wonderful community. And this here is an issue that a lot of folks are having with Banshee headsets and Razer just doesn't have a solution to this. I figured out what was wrong with my headphones and I just hope that we can get this guys great headset working too!

@KristiS, does the microphone still work without the software?
|
Well at least my mic is working just perfect without any software. I think these softwares are for those audio devices which use the 3,5mm jack and since banshee has USB it needs only those Usb drivers to function properly and it has it's own mixing/equalization programme which can be downloaded from Razers site.
I atm don't even have that banshee mixer programme installed since I recently formatted my comp but the sound and APM lightning system still works perfectly so basically you need that just to set your preferences and then the headset remembers it from then on. It works just same even on another computer, must have somesort of built-in memory.
just out of curiosity, did you have the same mobo or the same programme on your comp?
|
Ahh,
No I didn't have the same board or programme, but I'm having difficulty finding any software interfering with the microphone or anything of that description.
|
If you go to your sound tab through control panel or by right clicking the speaker icon in your icon bar at the low right corner of your screen you should be able to see all your in- and output devices. Check if some of your devices are managed by some sort of programme which is not windows' own.. If there isn't any then try to just uninstall all previous sound drivers that you may have

Wow if what you said is true I can not wait to get home and check out my computer.
I have had the Banshee since December last year, and I have had this problem three different times. It would work for a couple of weeks then it would go crazy in my friends ear on skype, I sent it back twice and got new headsets. Right now I haven't experienced it in a while but I also just built a new pc so maybe it is some sort of program on the computer!
Just glad to see I am not the only one with Banshee problems
|
Well it seems like the only problem people are having with Banshees is this very same that we're having. At least I haven't found anyone with another problem so I hope this is the fix for the problem. In my case it helped so hoping the best for you guys too!
|
Mine are having the same problem! If i get up to fast and set them down hard the static appears and i can get rid of it by changing the outbound levels in vent! i don't know if that is a wire problem or its pure coincidence. any help would be nice ^.^!
|
This thread must live again! I've had the same problem with my Banshee since December, after trying it on various computers I still get that ridiculous microphone static every now and then.
Has anyone else found any programs that cause it?
|
I have had the same issue, nearly every time I put my headphones down my outbound from my mic turns into pure static. Only way to fix it is to either plug the headphones out and in again or disable the microphone and re-enable it. However I still don't know what the real problem is.

New computer and still same problem lol
|
Im getting this exact same problem, and it happens a few times a day. A fix would be so so good. Drives my friends on skype crazy... :/
|
I'm experiencing the exact same problem, but I can't find the program kristis was talking about, a fix would indeed be so great. I think the problem has something to do with starcraft 2(the headset seems to have issues when starcraft 2 iS on) and maybe even windows 7(i've seen several topics about this problem, and I see "windows 7" allot) Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
|
same problem guys!!i cant find the program as well. I am using a P67Extreme6..and i cant find the problem
|
Hi just bumping this to see if anyone has any solutions. I've been having the same problem. It seems to occur whenever i put my headset down on my desk.
|
The problem still lives...
I get static noise after connecting to a ventrilo server. It however stops when I close ventrilo. I've tried two Banshee headsets, on 4 different computers, and all give the same results. None of the computers was running or started running the process referred to earlier in this thread.
Programs it affects; Ventrilo Teamspeak Steam friends chat -> only while calling.
Listening to stuff that doesn't include the mic is not a problem though... It seems being in a program that plans on usage of the microphone gives me static noise... How on earth to fix this, I don't know.
|
I have found a fix which works for me!
I noticed that if I restarted the Windows Audio service it fixed the problem 99% of the time. I'm not sure why exactly, but it works.
I have also made a quicker .bat version of this, which makes the fix a lot quicker:
Save as SoundFixer.bat and it needs to be run as an administrator
+ Show Spoiler +@echo off net stop Audiosrv net start Audiosrv echo Service Started if ERRORLEVEL 1 goto error exit :error echo There was a problem pause
Hope this will fix everyone else's problems.
|
Have the same problem. Drives my skype friends crazy! Also the sound stops sometimes or lags up a bit. Dont know of any fix :/
|
Generally you dont need software for a microphone/headset to work. You only need the software for special features, such as the lighting in the razer banshees. Your computer should have no problem detecting that theres a headset and a mic plugged in either via 2 3.5mm jacks or via usb
|
Is there a permanent fix anyone has figured out? Just got the Banshee a couple weeks ago and experiencing the same problem. I don't have the VID Audodeck process to close.
|
Guys, try connecting the cables directly to the motherboard and not in the front panel etc. This has fixed one static mic problem for me. Always keep your drivers up to date too.

Yes the problem is fixed. Download the latest firmware and upgrade it. If you have a Mac you need to do it in WIndows.

someone found a "cure" for this?
|
I've owned my banshee headset since Christmas and this has only happened to me once. Not sure how to make it go away I guess its just pure luck. lol

I've had the static problem for a long time now as well. As the psoter above mentioned, I also just DLed the update.
However I have this other issue and I'm curious whether other people also have it. The microphone seems to have problems detecting when I'm speaking. I use the Ventrilo Setup to test my mic, instead of bothering people on skype everytime I want to test it, and since it plays back what I say it's more convevient than having to ask what the person is hearing.
So lets say I'm on skype with a friend, and I'm talking.. it's quite positive they won't receive a single word I say. Or maybe they might only hear half a word out of the whole sentence, because my mic only decided to register that one or two syllables. I didn't always have this problem. When I first got the headset, it was perfect and everything worked properly and I was quite happy. But for almost a year now, the mic has been unuseable.
Going into Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording, only my banshee is enabled, everything else is disabled. Going under Properties -> Levels, it's at 100%. Under Advanced, I've tried Exclusive Mode checked and unchecked (I don't know what it does so I tried both just for the sake of it).

yeah I'm having a similar problem there is light static wile I'm on Skype i mosty wait and it gets better for a wile till the static startss up again (mac)
|
I'm having the same problems, even after installing the new firmware, 3.53. Are there other sound drivers that need to be unistalled? im not the greatest with computers, i just want to play with my friends and not mess up my computer in the process

Buy something better. I would suggest looking in the audio thread

i know this is necromancering like hell, 3 years, but i know what the problem was for me, if you pull the mic out and look at the plug, you should see a groove etched in it, the bit that makes contact wears it down, the debris and new gap is the static, to fix, replace the mic, or maybe re solder the groove, bad design, but the only real flaw, i think rewiring the mic hard onto it would completely fix it, other wise flipping the mic up and down will just cause it again.
again sorry for the res, but i found this looking for something else for this headset, and i am sure it's all of your problems, felt it necessary for anyone else that may stumble here
edit, 1 year since latest, don't feel as bad
