Edit: I will not overclock. Edit2: Intel i72600 k question: Why do you have 2600k if you won't overclock? Pick some 60-70$ mobo that has the features you want, any modern mobo functions well with SSD. Sidenote, I was looking up a PC for my friend and came up on this http://www.netanttila.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=715672&storeId=1444&catalogId=1444&shopId=19651&compartmentId=20152&categoryId=31151Now this seems pretty insane for 700 euros. HD 5850 is a pretty good graphics card worth maybe 150€+ though it's available nowhere, the processor is still a 150€, 1TB 7200 rpm HDD is 50, Mobo + ram totals about 130, case and PSU another 100+, Windows 7 is 90€ and that's already almost 700 ... I've never seen this good a deal for prebuilt computers o.O
Are prices really that expensive there? :o
EDIT: omg triple post mods plz don't ban me T_T
The processor isn't that relevant that it still costs 150€, what's more relevant is that you could get a sandybridge i5 with better performance iwth hat same 150€. The 5850 is fairly decent although 150€ sounds pricey, as it's around $150 USD. The RAM is pretty shity. PSU is a 500W noname brand.
In order to look less retarded with the trip post, if anyone is looking for a budget build with a decent GPU, saw this on slickdeals

Sapphire Radeon HD6770 1GB DDR5 PCI-Express Video Card for $117 - $15 with coupon code SIZZLE - $20 mail-in rebate = $82. Shipping is $1.50
(although shipping says 2.50 on the actual site!)

I think all of us who bought 1366 is kind of kicking ourselves in the butt a little bit. It was/is still fun though. Bragging rights... if you're into that kind of thing.

Maybe that's why you think AMD is good. You can build much better with current generation parts for that. It's what, a bit over a grand American, with parts costing ~15-20% more, right? So you should be able to get H61, i5 2400, 4-8GB DDR3 1333, and a GTX 460 1GB for that, with money left over to put into a decent quality case, HDD, and whatnot. Oh I don't think AMD is good, just cost-effective to a certain point. Well let me see what that'd cost from a Finnish online store(he won't buy stuff from abroad): 460€( with GTX 460 being inferior to 5850. As for processors, 2400 is obviously better but the 650 still does about as well as a i3-2100), then we got windows 7 OEM which is 100€, and then we've got 140€ to go for the case, PSU, DVD-RW drive, mouse, keyboard, and the trouble. Warranty and support probably are worth something as well. See why I think this is a good deal?
460 1GB isn't so terribly far behind 5850 that I'd be concerned, they both pretty much either play or don't the same games on the same settings, with a couple exceptions. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/164?vs=180 GTX 460 OCs well enough to cover that easily, and you can get those for cheap as hell these days.
Buying components tends to come with similar if not better warranty than buying a prebuilt.
You come out with a PC that's equal for some things, slightly better for others, on a live socket, and have better airflow from buying a good case, which lets you OC that GPU better to top the 5850.
Yes, building takes time, but if you don't have leisure time, you probably don't have use for a gaming PC.

posting again since it when to a new page and probably got missed, but hopefully maybe can help me out still
What is your budget? Around $800, but I can go above or below that range
What is your resolution?
I have a 32inch Samsung TV I was hoping to use as my gaming monitor, which last I looked was 1920 x 1080
What are you using it for? Mostly for gaming, playing games in the future such as Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2, I also am in graphics design so I use a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator, and on occasion movie editing programs like Sony Vegas. Also like watching streams
What is your upgrade cycle?
Maybe 2 or more years?
When do you plan on building it?
Hopefully within the next few weeks, and if not maybe around the time of Octoberish
Do you plan on overclocking?
Probably not
Do you need an Operating System?
No
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
Probably not
Where are you buying your parts from?
Probably online sites like newegg or amazon. I’m from the U.S so those are the only ones I know of for sure.

CPU: Intel i5 2500k ~$220 Motherboard: ASRock P67 Pro3 ~$120 Heatsink: Get one when you actually start overclocking, use the stock one for now Power Supply: Corsair CX500 V2 ~$60 RAM: G.Skill 2x (2x2GB) DDR 1333Mhz - 8GB Total (you could probably use more than 4GB for Photoshop, video editing, etc.) ~$53 Graphics Card: HD 6870 ~$170 Optical DVD Drive: Cheapest one you want; typically run for around ~$20 Case: Any case you want
Total: ~$653 (~$633 without Optical Drive) before Case and any shipping + rebates
If you absolutely don't want to overclock, you can get an i5 2300 (~$185) + Cheap H61/H67 motherboard (~$100) instead saving you about ~$60 or more, and do everything nearly identical to an i5 2500k build, just without the ability to overclock.
BF3 system recommended (anticipated anyways, should be less) is HD 6850 so you should be fine with an HD 6870. But you can wait a bit after release to see actual benchmarks to see which card you can actually get.

@BulletShot: I hope you intend to use a different display for your graphic work, Pixel density on a 32" TV is ok for gaming with a bit of AA, but it would blow for good graphics design.
Also, if you're going to use that TV at desk viewing distances, (closer than ~5-6 feet), consider spending up a tad on GPU over what you'd normally need for 1080p for those games, as the pixel density makes AA more desirable if you like higher graphics quality.

... I'm baffled with the idiotic pricing on computeruniverse.net and at the false advertising.
MSI doesn't have a Twin Frozr III model for the 6850. The retailer is either knowingly misleading consumers or is an idiot, you pick. edit: Oh, that's a picture of a 6950, /facepalm
At these prices, just get an ASUS DirectCu 6870: http://www.computeruniverse.net/products/e90409195/asus-eah6870-dc/2di2s/1gd5.asp?sr=6870 Why this is priced at the same price as a 6850 Cyclone is beyond my comprehension.

any reason why my 2500k isn't overclocking when I open up cpu-z...but OCed in the bios? Am i missing a setting somewhere?
|
Because you're at idle when you have CPU-Z opened?
|
it said 3.29 on prime95 as well
|
Did you turbo OC and turn off turbo after raising the multi?
|
turbo boost is off and multi to 47
|
|
ok trying that now :o
also my ram doesnt want to boot on 1600 if i set the timings manually to the stock timings but xmp profiles work??
|
Maybe because you're entering incorrect value? It's hard to say without seeing what you're actually entering into what.
|
I selected manual and it was shown 9 9 9 24 and clicked OK
|
Does SB have Uncore requirements for OCing RAM like Bloomfield? You may have to raise IMC voltage, and/or Vcore. Just because it's rated for 1600 doesn't mean they got 1600 at 1.5v.
|
Yes except it's called VCCIO and VCCSA.

I had that problem with Lynnfield processors, processor overclocking, and 1600mhz memory. Most of the time, you also have to force the basic voltage (manually input 1.5V) instead of leaving it on auto or whatever the default setting normally is.
Worked for me anyway!
