Extra features can include Clear CMOS button, reset and power buttons on the mobo, contact points for accurate voltage readings...

Although the quality of the BIOS in particular can be relevant to that. The other stuff is mostly candy, but a BIOS designed for it really is handy.

The power supply has so much wattage leftover you could power a second computer with the same specs. Not much to say other than if you upgrade the processor to an 1155 sandy or Ivy bridge youll have to upgrade the mobo as well. The 1366 is a dead tech path now afaik.

If your OS hard drive ever decides to fail or have problems, or if you were going to format anyway, that would be a good time to upgrade to an SSD.

Even last May, i7 930 ran around $300, high end (Wait, what?) X58 boards $175-200, and tri-channel DDR3 was ~$150 for 6GB. Throw in the mandatory aftermarket heatsink, and just the basic components could hit ~$700, after it had been out for a while. For the LOW end of Bloomfield. SSD is very worth it, and the mobo, no biggy, neither last-gen core i board works with SB, so you'd have replaced it either way. At least with 1366, you ended up with a smoking platform, even if you did pay out the nose.

Is it okay if all three fans are set to intake with the Intel default heatsink? It would be a hassle to call him and manually tell him to remove it (lives in another state) and replace it. Isn't your dad's PC for excel, firefox, and netflix pretty much? As long as he doesn't put it on the grill, it should be fine.

It's really frustrating and I've read around the internet that people have issue with it too. That's not a quality issue....it has to do with VDroop, if PLL overvoltage is set, and probably other things I'm not even aware of. I have the same motherboard. It's low-end for sure, can't overclock very high with it since it's limited to 1.35 V but that doesn't mean your (and the others who "have issues" with it) lack of knowledge about how VDroop and other things about how VCore and power delivery work is an actual issue. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2404/6

What is your budget? Around $800, but I can go above or below that range What is your resolution? I have a 32inch Samsung TV I was hoping to use as my gaming monitor, which last I looked was 1920 x 1080 What are you using it for? Mostly for gaming, playing games in the future such as Battlefield 3, Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2, I also am in graphics design so I use a lot of Photoshop, Illustrator, and on occasion movie editing programs like Sony Vegas. Also like watching streams What is your upgrade cycle? Maybe 2 or more years? When do you plan on building it? Hopefully within the next few weeks, and if not maybe around the time of Octoberish Do you plan on overclocking? Probably not Do you need an Operating System? No Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Probably not Where are you buying your parts from? Probably online sites like newegg or amazon. I’m from the U.S so those are the only ones I know of for sure.
