Hey I need your help once again, but this time i am building a computer for myself....the computer must be cost efficiency; be able to play sc2 on ultra. I dont do much on a computer except playing games and once a while i discover stuff on the computer. What is your budget? Must be cost efficiency for decent fps for sc2 @ ultra and other games but sc2 my main priorities. Budget will be set between 500-700. If there is other alternative option, i would like to know. I am a very cheap guy so the lower the better.
What is your resolution? 1980x1080
What are you using it for? Games and basic computers usage.....OOOOOOoo Would like to have 2 monitor if it helps.
What is your upgrade cycle? probably 2-3 years
When do you plan on building it? Never built a computer before but i want to learn....Labour day on monday should be a good day to build a computer
Do you plan on overclocking? I don't know but if I happen to be willing to overclock my computer it will be probably be in 1 year.
Do you need an Operating System? Yes, but dont add if the budget set for the custom build
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? If it means more money then no.what is that?
Where are you buying your parts from? Ncix, computer canada
Note: -Good fps for games specially sc2 @ ultra -Willing to plug 2 monitor to the computer -Cases with headphone at the front (?)
i think that is it, thanks guys.
Unfortunately, you already missed out on a lot of the good deals. Here's a configuration for $692 before mail in rebates that will easily play Starcraft II on ultra at 1080p along with current and upcoming games on reasonably high settings. No operating system is included. It is an overclockable configuration since you said you want to dive into the world of overclocking in a year or so. When you do decide to overclock, you can add on a heatsink than. thanks alot for the build but would u suggest that i wait a bit to get more deal or can i go ahead instead of saving some bucks?

Hmmm, im am not quite sure what people mean when they start at a offset voltage for their CPU and go down? I can set my CPU voltage offset to 0 and nothing happens? I assume im somehow confused on some aspect.

COLLEGETOUR11 promo ends September 31st iirc.
The 6870 at $160 probably won't be there next week.
Besides those two... most of the deals you'll see reoccur every week. You missed out on an Antec Earthwatts 650w for $45 and a Gigabyte Radeon HD5850 for $130 this week. Your choice to wait or not, I can't predict future pricing unfortunately.

Using offset voltage is basically auto voltage. If your CPU thinks it needs 1.3v for 4.5GHz and you have an offset of 0 than it's going to get that 1.3v. If you set it to +0.01, it'll get 1.31v.

i when i use CPU Voltage offset i should go down so i have an offset of like -.25? I just don't get when people are talking about +.04 offset, and that then causing their computer to BSOD. Unless im somehow tinkering with the wrong voltage.
|
If it's not stable, you need to increase offset. Unless you have time on your hands, I wouldn't decrease offset since sometimes this leads to stable load but unstable idle and vice versa. You'll also get different results with various load line settings.
I think you're missing a 0 for that 0.25... 0.025.
Not sure what you're referring to when you say that increasing offset leads to BSOD. Those people are probably aiming for a higher overclock and need to change other settings such as PLL, load line, VTT, VRM freq, ...

Hmm, i meant that they were finding their lowest voltage which would cause them to crash, im not quite sure how i go about doing this.
Maybe ill just leave it how it is, ive managed to overclock it and the highest temps i get using prime95 was 75 for 2 seconds then it averages about 70 for most of the other tests.
I really do appreciate your help skyr.

Go to control panel -> system and security -> Create and format partitions (under administrative tools). Format your new drive. I translated these titles from the Swedish version but it should have similar names.

Yeah if you don't want to mess around too much sticking with the preset OC is fine you just gotta find the temp you are comfortable with, although going over 4.6 ghz from what I have read is a little bit tricky since you need the cooling and have to change some settings besides the multiplier and the VCore. I see that your temps are stable, how high did you OC it? Finding the right settings for an OCed pc based on my very limited experience can take some time as I was checking the temps and volts every minute or so like I was a nurse looking after a patient who can blow up any moment.

My build consists of the i5-2400, and the Rosewill Green Series RG430-S1. But according to hardware-revolution.com, they should be avoided.
"To avoid:
Also currently available are the Core i5-2300 ($185, 2.8GHz, 3.1GHz Turbo, 95W), the Core I5-2400 ($195, 3.1GHz, 3.4GHz Turbo, 95W) and the Core i5-2400S ($205, 2.5GHz, 3.3GHz Turbo 65W). I recommend avoiding them all for the following reasons:
For the i5-2300 and i5-2400: You’re better off spending a few dollars more. In short: Don’t bottleneck your Gaming PC by cutting the corners on the CPU. The i5-2500 ($210, 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo, 95W) doesn’t cost that much more (Especially considering the overall budget) and will offer better performance, especially in CPU-bound games such as StarCraft II and WoW. For the i5-2400S: This is a low-power CPU, which has a TDP of 65W compared to 95W for the i5-2400. While this is a great CPU for say, an HTPC, it is to avoid for a Gaming PC, since it’s reduced frequency will greatly hurt performance."
"My Top 10 Recommended PSU Brands
Antec: Avoid any EarthWatts models over 700W, but the rest of Antec power supplies are recommended. Cooler Master: Avoid their eXtreme series but the rest of Cooler Master power supplies are recommended. Corsair EnerMax PC Power and Cooling RoseWill: Only their Xtreme/RX series. Avoid other series. SeaSonic SevenTeam Silverstone Thermaltake: Only their Purepower and Toughpower series. Avoid other series."
Question is, since my budget is $636, could I upgrade to an i5-2500 or is that website misleading?
|
There really isn't much reason to upgrade to the i5 2500. The extra 200MHz doesn't really count for much.
As far as his PSU list goes, it's a very narrow list, but it is a solid list. I would stay away from Antec Basique PSUs as well.

I tried that, i don't get anything. it just shows my SSD. I even tell it to scan and i get nothing. in the bios it shows that it is connected and has 500gb.
I'm also trying to overclock my 2500k and even at 4.5Ghz it BSOD during Prime95. the temperatures aren't even getting high using realtemp. like only 60C tops under 100% load.
what's the deal? I have it set at 4.5 GHz and 1.35vcore. shouldn't i be able to achieve more with such a high vcore?
I'm using a MSI P67a-C43
I updated the Bios to the newest one too.
|
You don't see the drive in bios either? I'm not sure about that board but make sure you have all the sata controllers enabled if you have more than one. Maybe try connecting it to a different port if it's totally undetectable. Not sure otherwise.
