I'd contact them and see if you can work something out for being such a good, honest, concerned citizen. Considering there is paperwork, they can probably track where the error occurred when they do inventory, so if it's illegal to keep them, the risk probably isn't worth it. As such, just try and get something for yourself out of the process.

First of all, let me say thanks for all the help I got so far. All the pieces for my computer are selected and in the mail. The only thing that is left for me to find is a monitor. Might sound easy, but I can't for the life of me seem to decide on one. TN? IPS? What brand? What cost ? There are just too many choices.
I roughly have 400 bucks left, but what i'm looking for is the most affordable one that can do the following : display accurate colors (for my photography work) Be reasonably fast for gaming 1920x1080 or 1920x1200, 23 or 24 inches.
edit : rotating verticaly is a plus, but not a priority.
edit2 : would this be a good pick? http://ncix.com/products/?sku=59771&vpn=IPS231P-BN&manufacture=LG Electronics&promoid=1367
|
LG IPS231P should be a decent pick, especially at that nice price of $220. Despite the rated response time, it's not as good as a few other eIPS models and certainly not as good as TN panels in that regard. Depending on how sensitive you are to ghosting and what genres you play, it might be an issue. (However, I'd think that it's probably okay.) Input lag is better than most monitors, which is good.

For 400 bucks, I could almost get that ips monitor for my photography work and a cheap TN panel for gaming.
edit : ugh I jsut realized that panel has no HDMI. would that impact the response time?
|
Dual monitor with something like Asus VH236H? I dunno, sounds maybe nifty, or perhaps just flat-out weird.
No HDMI is no problem. DVI is pretty much the same thing, just with no audio signal being passed.

Considering that people play games at all on LCD TVs, I'd think that most monitors do better and are probably acceptable unless you're used to like CRTs for Quake. Certainly the monitors you're looking at have much lower input lag than most LCD TVs.
TN is probably out of the question for photo editing. PVA and MVA are probably too slow for gaming and too expensive in general anyway. Realistically you're probably just looking different IPS variants, the faster and cheaper of which are eIPS. There really aren't a huge number of options--you can find most in the page I linked. It's not like the LG IPS231P has no RTC--it's just a bit worse than on some alternatives. Given the price differences, I don't think it's worth stepping up to something marginally better. edit: or maybe at $250 the U2311H is worthwhile.

Hey TL! Im interested in building a gaming computer! It will be my first time doing this so im a little lost at what to do. Im not too knowledgeable about a bunch of computer stuff so bear with me plz!
First off ill start with the questions Budget: 500-1000$ I don’t really wanna go over 1k but give or take 100$ if it will make a big difference would be allright Resolution: My current display is set at 1366x768 but im on a laptop so idk if that makes a difference Usage: Ill be using it mostly for gaming. A few college things but nothing that requires anything special. Sc2, Battlefield bc3, skyrim, etc. Upgrade cycle: Since this is my first build idk how often ill be upgrading. Most likely ill be getting stuff for this like every 1-1.5 yrs Timeframe: Id like to get this done before the end of the year Overclocking: idk how to but if it make my computer run faster for gaming sure ill do it if its not too expensive :D Multipl e graphics: how much would this affect my performance? Whats crossfire and SLI? Haha Ill buy from wherever but newegg.com seems pretty legit
I really want quality. So if theres a cheaper option that has a history of failing im not interested haha. Ill pay a little extra for quality.
Heres a link to what i have so far. Dont know how good it is but its within budget. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=259020
PM me or post on that link plz! any tips or info would be much appreciated!

Alright TL, I'm trying to decide what to do for my next PC so any/all input would be amazing! I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to PC's nor do I think I have the ability to build one myself without screwing something up somewhere. Soooo..this is where you guys come in(?) c:
My budget is $2,000 give or take, and I can go a few hundred over if needed. No need for a monitor, keyboard nor mouse. Just the biggest, best computer that my money can buy me. I'm looking for something that can run anything and everything that I throw at it and more for a few years or so. I'm not the type of person that upgrades occasionally, but rather tend to "milk" my computer for as long as I can before giving in 5+ years down the line and investing in another. Unless, of course, this newest computer surpasses my current one by a huge margin then I may just stick with it and upgrade here and there. My current resolution is 1680/1050. Again, I'm looking for something that can run top of the line games without a sweat, as well as games to come (SKYRIM!!!!!). I also tend to multi task quite a bit, not sure if that will have any affect on any specifics but..yea..I almost always seem to have multiple browsers open, as well as Skype, Steam, Desura etc.
Sooo..YEA! Help me please?!

The i5 + RAM combo still feels a little expensive =/. Especially for Patriot RAM, which you can find for $25-30 all the time for 8GB.

I'm probably going to build a new computer very soon but i have no idea what to use so i'll fill in the questionnaire:
Q: Budget? A: $750
Q: Resolution? A: Most probably 1280x720 or sometimes 1024x768
Q: Use? A: Mostly Gaming. No need to stream, nor photoshop, nor video encoding.
Q: Upgrade Cycle? A: Probably longer than 2 years.
Q: When? A: About October this year.
Q: Overclocking? A: Most probably no.
Q: Need of a OS? A: Yes.
Q: SLI, Crossfire or Second GPU? A: No.
Q: Where are you buying your parts from? A: Tricky question: do stores like Newegg ship to Mexico? If not, i could get the components from a physical store, hopefully.
Thanks to FragKrag for providing such a comprehensive guide to it, and to the people who suggest builds for us the computer illiterates

Do you plan on getting a better monitor anytime soon? Because you can get away with a really shitty graphics card and still play high/ultra on that resolution.

A) You could max out 1280X1024 with about $400 dollars of computer, I'd reccommend spending about $550 on the computer and $200 on a 1920X1080 screen
B) What kind of games are you planning on playing? If it's just SC2, then a pentium g850 would be fine, but if you're playing BF3, or anything other heavier game, I'd reccommend an i3-2100 (Both assuming you keep current screen.) If you keep your current screen, a gts450 would likely be enough video card for you, if you go with a bigger screen than a 6850, or a 460 (768mb) would be a good choice
C) If you go with a better screen, you'd probably want an i5-2400

I'm not so sure, since he's in Mexico. Any type of pricing will be definitely higher, since the usual US sellers like newegg do not ship outside the US.
Maybe Amazon.com would work? Or after shipping/customs, is a Mexican retailer better? I think it's a better idea to plan on some kind of ~550 USD build rather than look at the budget as 750 USD.

ya well ... same build that's on since a few days on low budget
g850 h61 4gb ram gts450 etc ...
