There's usually good stuff that week and the week after, including or especially the Monday after (28 Nov.) aka Cyber Monday. edit: though in Canada I think Boxing Day gets good deals as well. I forget. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.

The only way to really be sure is to grab some equipment worth a few hundred dollars at least (a reasonable oscilloscope of sufficient bandwidth). A $5 multimeter is good enough to tell you the average voltage with some ballpark estimate though. As alluded to earlier, if your +12V rail was actually going to +5V, the system would shut off. This kind of unexplained dip in the software is very common. I'm guessing your Rosewill is the Bronze Series (RBR1000-M) and not the Lightning? Lightning is very good btw. I think the Bronze Series is the same platform as this Hiper M1000 so it should be similar: http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story&reid=132 i.e. not worth replacing, unless maybe it bothers you that you have a 1000W unit to power like 50-350W draw or whatever your system actually uses, and thus your idle power draw is significantly higher than it could be. Myrmidon, you rock! Yes, that's a good guess. That's exactly what i have. Allright, if it has the Myrmidon seal of approval, it will stay in. :D Sometimes this itch to have "the best" is not a good itch lol.

64GB Crucial M4 SSD for $90. Absolute steal. @Automata: Do your ambient temps just suck? A 460 clocked below ~850Mhz should be golden on air with decent ambients, if you keep the heatsink clean in any case. I'd suggest cleaning it and re-thermal pasting it over a case replacement. Well, I guess a Sonata is kind of mediocre, but still, a 460 is fairly easy to keep reasonable, my SLI 460s don't crack 80C under any kind of load I actually subject them to, and that's in central Texas. This week is the first week with highs below 105F in about a month. I can't get my AC to cool the house below ~78F in the hottest part of the afternoon.

Perfectly fine (well, at wattages most people run) and mediocre is not worth replacing, but it's probably not worth getting in the first place either. ![]() On September 01 2011 23:39 Automata wrote: Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new case right now to replace my old Antec Sonata II. I need something with good airflow to cool down my video card (idles at 60c, underload at 99c). I won't be modding it and I'm looking to spend around 50-80$ CAD on it. My mobo is a Asus P7H55-M LX and my GPU is a zotac gtx460. Let me know what you guys suggest. Have you cleaned out your GPU lately? If you're just looking for lower GPU temperatures, it's probably not a case upgrade you should be investigating first. Anyway, if you're getting a new case, I'm guessing that out of a Sonata II you might prefer something that doesn't sound like a hurricane or have ostentatious styling, so for airflow in that price range, maybe the Fractal Design Core 3000 ($70)? You could move one of the fans to the side intake. Granted, cable management isn't as great as many modern cases, but at least there's some semblance of cutouts. Also, positioning the fan controller can be awkward for some builds, but since you have mATX there should be no issue fitting it in the bottom expansion slot. http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=58342 HAF 912 can be had around $50 though and may be a better choice because of the price.

That's a pretty hardcore load to run 25 hours a day. ![]() But seriously, is it running at 650W all the time? Have you measured this? You have like Folding@Home or are otherwise maxing out your CPU + GPUs all the time?

Yeah, maxing out doing distributed computing with dual ATI 6970s (just swapped in from 5870s, not sure if that was the best upgrade, but they were $220, meh). My UPS is saying it's drawing that much anyhow. and lol at 25/7...whoops.... :D

Depends on the model, but I believe a lot of them dip a bit below optimal efficiency below certain levels of load. IIRC, they only test certain usage levels for efficiency for 80+ certifications. As usual with PSU's, though, take me with a grain of salt, Myrm and skyR certainly know more.
