U think that the 6870 will run stuff like sc2 battlefield bc3 and skyrim better than those 2 linked up? id honestly prefer to go with just the one cause its cheaper but im willin to spend a little extra cash to get the better stuff
GTX 465 is a piece of shit. Hot, high power consumption, and weaker than a 460, and a 460 is weaker than a 6870.

Im no expert but, you dont wanna sli 2 cheap cards. you buying on newegg? thats 2x130 (ignoring shipping) = 260$, and the 6870 is at 175$, not a fair comparison. You should be spending your money on a single 560Ti or a 6950 1GB for less or equal to 260$
Edit: another reason not to buy the 465s is that other than then 260$ cost of the cards, you will have to buy a better PSU and possibly spend more on a case that will have better airflow/cooling. thats easily another 50$ of costs associated to that path, so go ahead and pay around 250$ for a single card.

Yeah, SLI is enough of a pain in the ass without doing it with terrible GPUs, particularly horrendously inefficient, hot ones like the 465.
465 SLI on EVGA's Mods Rigs brings out a total of 3 results. Over 11k systems listed, and 3 with 465 SLI. That's a pretty fair sign how pitiful it is.

At least 465's don't cost more than better cards anymore. Was disgusting when they cost $50 more than a vastly superior 460.
They're still one of the worst options available though. I'd personally rather use a 450 or even 450 SLI over a 465 or 465 SLI. At least then I wouldn't have a space heater to go with the underwhelming performance.

It's the day after Thanksgiving, so 25 November 2011. There's usually good stuff that week and the week after, including or especially the Monday after (28 Nov.) aka Cyber Monday. edit: though in Canada I think Boxing Day gets good deals as well. I forget. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.
Black friday on my birthday?
I'm going to go nuts

Thanks for pointing that out! Saved me $30 on a SSD.

And it's a good, reliable, current one. The only thing I don't like about the price is that I don't get to take advantage of it.

yeah, it made me so sad that I couldn't use the newegg shell shocker deal for its older brother, the 128GB variant yesterday for $165. I was like (#*#&^%#&*%@&@^%@)@(^##%# DON'T NEED ANOTHER SSD, BUT IT'S SUCH A GOOOOOOOD DEALLLLLLLL

Funny, that's word for word with what went through my head when I opened the email this morning. Down to the "(#*#&^%#&*%@&@^%@)@(^##%# ". Wouldn't believe how time consuming thinking all those vehement symbols can be.

Not a terrible option at all. I'd suggest maybe getting an extra fan to use as an intake on the side.
Positive pressure is all the rage now, and getting air direct to GPU's is rather handy for keeping them cooler.

If I'm reading it right, it comes with a 120mm fan on the front and 120mm on the rear right?
What size fan do you suggest on the side intake fan?

According to hardware-revolution the i5 2300 and 2400 cpus should be avoided for gaming cos of their frequency and bottlenecking.. Is this true? My budget is 650 so idk if I could fit an i5 2500
|
The side says it can take either 120mm or 140mm. 140 is likely to be able to run at lower RPM for less noise, but the best selection is generally 120mm, and there's some excellent silent options there too.
@xyor: The 2300 and 2400 are both perfectly fine if you don't plan to OC.
Bottlenecking depends on individual game, specific hardware, and a few other factors.

pricematch with directcanada for 49.69$
edit: if you are asking if its a good case, its very good for its price range, you can always buy an extra 200mm fan and put the front fan that comes with the case on the side or on top.
|
Thanks jinglehell and ataryens. Can you guys recommend a good brand for a fan or a specific for it as well? Looking for 120mm to put on the side.
|
Are you more worried about airflow or noise?
|
I need my case to be as cool as possible. I'm using an old case right now (antec sonata II). And there is basically no room for cable management. Only room for one rear fan. I think it's the main reason my gtx460 is idling at 60c and under load at 99c.
