*Still split on Serral's invites. Is he going to be invited and seeded into everything this year? That'll get old for me fast. Rogue was invited to Katowice last year too, so it's consistent. And let's be honest, unless Serral drops off massively, he would qualify for everything this year anyway. For me it isn't about whether or not he would qualify nor about Rogue being invited to Katowice last year, it feels Serral's invites have become "trendy" by the end of this year going into next year. If it starts to happen constantly, I'll get sick of it which, who cares, but I also think there's something to be said about the competition and storylines that happen from tough qualifiers and that taking strong players out of every qualifier could be worse for the competition as a whole. Imo, removing challenges (tough players) for other players gives them fewer things to overcome, fewer opportunities to learn and get better. I also think it's a shame to remove the opportunity for an (unlikely, sure) upset to happen in the qualifiers even if the tournament organizers and a lot of viewers would be disappointed if it happened. I'm not saying it's false that the qualifiers could be more competitive when such a dominant player is removed from them and more room is made for other players, but I think it's bad to do constantly for a lot of reasons and I worry that it's going to become a constant thing. Well, he is the end boss. You have to play through the game to get to the end boss. He is not in the first level. Imagine your lvl 5 Warrior has to face Diablo after 5 mins into the game with his scrappy white items and maybe one blue... Eh, are players like Maru, Stats, or TY not big bosses also? It's also not like you somehow 'level up' while playing a tournament, your skill at the start is about the same as at the end. It seems like you're supporting a setup like Chess with a Candidates tournament and a separate championship match. That system has its merits, but in a game like SC2, I think it's more impressive for a 'champion' to show their merit by being able to slog through the brackets like everyone else, because there's always the chance of being tripped up by something unexpected. I don't minds invites too much, but I prefer players starting on an equal playing field for each tournament.
I am speechless right now. How can you take my post this serious? lol
On the point of someone tripping, yes sure, but with GSL format or double elim brackets this doesn't change the fact that even when upsets happen, the favorite will still pull through in most cases

Being SC2 fan for 8 years and counting, I think some tournaments should give players more $$ especially top 5 (some first places only got about $10k in 2017 and 2018) And tone down some tournaments that have WAY over $100k for first place.
I mean this idea/opinion is only from a fan's point of view, I know they are diff companies and stuff but I'd rather see really big prize pools go into more tournaments small/mid sized ones than 1-2 HUGE ones a year.
That way more $$ for more pros and SC2 will never ever die. We aren't as big as FortNite and we dont care. Our game is much more competitive and have more respectable players and fans.

Since there was no IEM circuit in 2018, I think of Katowice as the only IEM event during 2018. Which itself is part of the WCS circuit. Which makes Katowice 2018 a WCS 2018 event...

IEM XIII had events in Sydney, Shanghai and Chicago, all of them CSGO though. Although Katowice hasn't been a real "World Championship" event for a while as previous stops don't always seed into it so it ultimately doesn't matter

I thought that WESG is a much bigger thing and don't really care about other things, since WESG will feature many games. Is it likely that WESG will take IEM into consideration? There are a few games that will be played in both, but IEM isn't as big as WESG.

Katowice is hosting the csgo major as well (which is the biggest event on the CS calendar), as well as the sc2 world championship. there's no way WeSG would host an event at the same time
