TB does not need "internet medical expert" advice. TB needs your well wishes or prayers. Any derailment consisting of "alternative medical treatments" will be moderated.
Well, I don't know if there is really a right way to tell people this, so I guess here goes. The CT did not come back negative. The cancer in the bowel is gone, but spots have appeared in my liver. They're not operable and there's no cure. Average life expectancy is 2-3 years, though there are outliers that live much longer. I'll be back on chemo in a few weeks, with the goal of pushing it back and keeping it there for as long as possible. I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore. Who knows what they'll come up with in the next decade? I intend to beat it for as long as possible. Gonna need some time to process all of this. I don't really feel anything right now. Thanks.
TotalBiscuit is a champion of the StarCraft community by any metric you choose to decide that by. This is understandably a difficult time for John. As the community that has benefited so much from his contributions, please send him your energy and wellwishes.
Please Totalbiscuit I hope that you get better. I enjoyed your content for so long and I absolutely adore the videos you and your wife make. Please get better.
There is just no way TB can't beat this, he is way too strong. As he said himself, the average life expectancy will go up after he is done with this. Good luck TB, keep fighting. Looking forward to your full recovery!
That's horrible, really hope TB can fight and get past this, he's way too young to die. My thoughts go out to his family who must be going through hell right now to put it lightly.
To describe my feelings at hearing the news as sad would be an understatement. My mood flipped a complete 180 from joyous over hearing the overwatch beta release date to a complete crash.
Calori restriction has been demonstrated as very promising for cancer (and extending life expectency) prevention and curing. I cannot back the studies since I am not an expert in the field but it is gaining more and more attention. You can find a study there
If not already done, talk about it with your physicians.
a lot of different thing he could give a shot at this point to increase his life expectancy I believe, massive lifestyle change will probably be needed, hopefully he can soldier through all of that

The study is about a good nutrition therapy can help in the prognosys and prevention of a neoplasic disease (cancer) and is not a treatment...
TB, my dad has been battling pancreatic cancer for a decade. He has suffered through so much, but he's still alive against all odds. Just keep fighting and keep those dearest to you around for support. Love you man and I'll be praying for you.
In all seriousness, you're a lot younger than most of the people making up that average. First of all that SUCKS but at the same time you're much stronger and healthier than most. I have no doubt that you can beat the odds.
For me, I never believe that we human can't overwhelm any tribulation that nature lays upon us. People like you are the reasons that we keep pushing forward in the long battle against diseases. Fight well, TotalBiscuit!
Sorry to hear it TB, I really wish you all the best and I'm hoping you can overcome this. I'm a big fan and I'll be following your channel(both) until my death (since you will outlive me)!
As someone who's been following you since Blue Please this is heartbreaking. You are one of the figures in the gaming community I respect and admire the most. Take care of yourself TB, the community is rooting for you.
There's no way around this other than facing it head on, so please remain positive. Life can be painful at times, but it's also a sublime experience. We oftentimes forget that and dwell on negative thoughts far too much. Please, don't do that!
Remember the things you love about life and what makes you smile. These are the things that really keep us going. Enjoy life to the fullest and live with no regrets!!
MY UNCLE IS LIVING FOR 6 YEARS WITH LUNG CANCER!!! 6 fucking years. These "average" life expectancy is complete bullshit! He is alive, he is still watching football, he is still playing football with his kids. He isn't healthy as he used to be. But he is still with us. Don't eat that average bullshit.
I've already said this on twitter but on the offchance that he or any other Bains happen to read this: All the best. Stay strong, stay thickheaded, and cancer will have no chance! It won't even know what hit it! :p My thoughts go out!
On October 16 2015 02:59 xuanzue wrote: is a liver transplant an option?
From what I can gather from looking things up and all, the fact that spots are appearing on his liver after having bowel cancer means the cancer cells are already in his bloodstream (Bowel cancer can't spread directly to the liver). A transplant would merely slow the spread, not stop it. It will simply pop up somewhere else in time.

I do not write often here, but i follow the SC scene from the beginning and I have always liked TB for his contribution to this community. I hope that he can be the outlier and that in a near future a cure will be found. I am with you and your family, TB!
Very sorry to hear this - best wishes TB. I too have a very close family member with spread cancer, but they are doing some very promising breakthroughs in reasearch and treatment these years. Stay strong!
One thing to note (fufu) is that most survival rates are based on older studies, so many not reflect current survival rates. That means it's almost certain that the survival rate/time will have increased.
It does seem odd that it would have been this long between being "clear" and getting a follow up scan though. I would have thought 6 months or less for a follow up scan, especially given that bowel cancer often spreads elsewhere.
I hope however uncurable it may seem, that he somehow finds a way through, as certainly his contribution to the gaming community and to this one in general is invaluable. I don't know of many, or even one who has done a better job at communicating Starcraft to the public as TB, and one who has defended the merits even through low points and tough situations.
What other man would fund Axiom in the way he has? He gave guys like Crank a chance to perform and a place to stay, in addition to providing a space for foreigners to stay and a platform for them to play.
TotalBiscuit - Thoughts and Wishes are with you. Go on and be that outlier. I lost someone very close to me with the same kinds of cancer. So you can't really go before your time dude. Genna and your young man need you to hang around with them for much much longer.
Keep up the good spirit and who knows? In the near future there might be some cure. Like you say, you are young and strong and the average does not apply to you.

It's been only 6 months since he got the official "all clear" from Bowel cancer

Generally if it started in one place and has showed up in another place, it's almost not a viable solution to replace the organ it's spread to. At some point I think they may not even let you have a transplant if there's any evidence that there's metastasization.
It's going to be taught at universities; the average is 2-3 years, except there was one incredible specimen that lasted 50 years in excellent condition.
Edit: Because of the thread title, Blizzard needs to bring back Khydarin Amulet for TB.
Best of wishes John, I've been following your work on SC and other games for quite some time. You're probably the main reason I have close to 200 games on steam and working on my own game. you already affected many more people's lives than most ever would, and I'm sure you'll have many more years to do so.
GL TB!! You gotta do this! You got to! Do no think at yourself, think at your family and fight for them! Cheese this fucking disease and manner MULE it in the face!! fuck this shit!! You got this! YOU GOT IT!!!
We need to do something. I'm not in contact with him personally, but a kickstarter for funds and maybe some cheerfuls would honestly do him well. If anyone is in contact with glider maybe he could do a portrait sketch? Or maybe the artists on TL could make a song/dedicate a song to him? Idk something to help out that he can access.
Totalbiscuit, Im sure you wont read this, but I'll still write my thoughts here down.
I don't often post anything on TL despite following many threads and games. I just felt a strong urge to sign in today. John, Totalbiscuit, CRUSH THIS OBSTACLE and come back to us!
Because you are 'The King Of The Web'! If someone has fogotten already - here: King of the Web contest 50000 $ as a prize alone isn't a joke. We destroyed there everyone! Due to your contribution and dedication, charitywater has got huge possibility to help children to get clean water and visit school, get education, instead of daily plain survival. YOU have helped and, I am bloody sure, rescued many many lives!
Because you are the owner of Axiom and a vast youtube channel with over 2 Million subscribers. Many people are counting on you, depending on you. Not only as CEO, but as a friend and tutor.
Your wife and loved ones need you. Your Axiomer, fans and occasional youtuber need you. I am not a fan and I dont know you personally, but a lot of your thoughts, and ideas and even cynicism are similar to mine.
It would sadden a lot of people, if this ride would come to a halt prematurely. Many boys and girls, men and women around you wholeheartedly wish you best of luck to overcome your sickness. So, roll up your sleeves and come back to us. We are waiting for you!

don't bother praying, as its useless. Its classic examples like these is why there is no GOD. You said it yourself, no f-in reason this should happen to TB. Yet you still compartmentalize your cognitive dissonance to believe in this b.s.
T.B , May luck be on your side. I hope you can fight the corrupted DNA. It will be tough but you are indeed young, so you got way better chances than say if an older person was to get this. I cannot imagine how it must feel.
TB is such a brilliant and wonderfull figure of e-sports, I'm very sad to hear this. Wish you the best for whatever is next, I'm sur you will take it like a champ.
TB is an outlier when it comes to all things life, you will beat this TB! Seeing him deal with this and the bad apples of the community has led me to believe he is a tough son of a bitch. Seriously fuck cancer.
A few of my relatives passed away to this crap, the latest one being my father. I sincerely hope that if someone survives liver cancer long enough, it will be someone like TB who makes so much fun content.
Its not over till its over. Live life to the fullest. A reminder that time is ticking on all of us, be it 3 months, 3 years or 30 years, TB is someone I admire for doing something he clearly loves and stands behind - something not all of us have the balls or chance to do.
Youre definitely a very defining personality in the esports scene, and i wish you all the best and recovery.
you are OP TB. thats why life keeps dealing you shit hands.
I wish you strenght in that ordeal. I wish you to spend meaningful moments with the people you love. And that you will see the day a pure Axiom badass wins a fucking championship.
TB I'm really really sorry my friend, but I know there's few personalities who could fight this as hard as you. I'm from the UK and people like you and Apollo are an inspiration to me to maybe one day get into esports, my passion. Your fight to fulfil your dream should hold you in good stead my friend. As you we're saying, so many of these cancer statistics are based on the 60+ !

How ignorant are you to turn a support thread into a stupid debate about something that cannot be proved either way. You are the worst type of person
He's young. He's strong - incredibly strong. He's got the money to find good doctors. He's got the family and friends needed to give him the support he needs. Three years? That's not even as long as he's been running his podcast. John's gonna skew those statistics SO hard.
TB, I first met you in 2013 when I was translating for flamingcow.tv. I had only heard negative rumors about you so I was very skeptical about getting to know you at first. But after I did, I realized that those rumors were all bullshit. You're a stand up guy with a great personality. Your online image may not be the best but I know who the real John Bain behind the TB mask is so consider me a true fan. Please get through this and never give up the fight! TL will be rooting for you all the way!
Man TB I heard your recent video on the "Skipping content probably won't bring on the Apocalypse" it had some of the most admirable logic that I've heard in a while, and I listen to a lot of people who are supposed to be very smart everyday.
Your satiric and critical nature is a joy to watch.
tb you are awesome. lots of idiotic haters have hated on you over the years, but they are dumb and you are awesome. thanks for giving so much to the gaming community and all the great content
I am sorry to hear this, but I like the attitude. Fight the good fight and make cancer your bitch. I hope you get a great team of medical professionals to help and that scientists make progress in helping beat it while you're fighting.
TB's got the right mentality about facing the situation : Not giving up. Ceding to Anxiety and stress will only make your body weaker, you have to be bright, you have to believe. You have to beat it.
Medicine is getting better each day that passes, keep up the hope : we will cure this crap. There is nothing human can't do once they put their brain together. Today there's even multiple open source on beating cancer, knowledge and cure are advancing each seconds.
Moreover never forgive that TB : This is not only your fight, this is humanity's fight and humanity will never give up. It did not nive up for 7 millions years and this will not change today. We'll advance together.
Love this guy. Keep fighting man. Had a best friend go through Chemo and I know it's hell. remember what you're fighting for- its everything. Try to eat the best diet that is humanly possible. I figure that coupled with modern medicine, you got a good shot man. GL
Hey TB, I don't know if you believe in Jesus or not, but he's there and cares deeply for you. I'll be praying for you and know you'll have many that will walk through this with you.
I've always been curious what chemo does to you exactly, it sounds like it destroys almost everything in an effort to remove the cancer. Lets hope TB can beat the odds!

I'm a biological scientist but not in cancer research so I'm somewhat more knowledgeable than average but not exactly totally familiar. From what I recall from studying cancer during my undergraduate that's...pretty much what it does.
Basically traditional chemotherapy involves getting pumped full of chemicals that kill off rapidly dividing cells. The basic idea is that most of the cells in your body will be fine (because they're not dividing quickly or at all in some cases) whilst the cancer cells will be killed off. This is also why your hair falls out, because the cells in hair follicles divide rapidly and so also die off. It can also screw up your bone marrow and one or two other things I can't recall right now.
In very simple terms you're pumping the body full of a certain amount of specific poisons on the basis that the poison will hit the cancer harder than most of the other cells in the body. So the balance in dosage is pretty important; it needs to be such that its enough to effect the cancer but not enough to kill the patient. Though it won't necessarily kill all the cancer, it can kill enough to prolong life.
There's newer treatments out that act a bit differently, but that's pretty much the basis of traditional cancer treatment.
Unfortunately in TB's case by the sounds of things its metastasized...that is to say its moved from the primary site and spread throughout the body...which as far as my own knowledge goes rather sadly puts it rather in the category of "when" and not "if". I'd really hoped the surgery would clear it up for him entirely. :-\
In any case, I hope he can beat the odds of the timescale they've given him. All the best to him and his family.
Man TB you have no idea how much joy you've brought me over the years. I was so happy when you beat your first bout and all the energy start returning to your face. I can't believe this had to hit you just as you were gaining momentum again. Stay strong TB, all will be good again
I thought things were going so well for him, why did it come back now =( Damn it. Really hoping things turn around. Best of luck to John and his family.

Well thanks a lot for the information, much appreciated. I was also going to ask why not have surgery to cut out the cancer but I guess you answered that as well. I always thought that chemotherapy actually contributed to the death of the patient in some way but its interesting to learn that it keeps the normal cells functioning (for the most part, apart from the bone marrow part you mentioned).
Well perhaps he can try some experimental drugs or surgeries, though on the other hand he may just want to spend the most amount of quality time with his friends, spouse, family etc. rather than take the risk. I think on the bright side TB accomplished a lot with the time he had so he can be happy to leave behind some positive memories. I hope he at least gets to play some fun RPGs and games while he still can (Fallout 4, Witcher 3). I hope that doesn't sound too silly, its what I would do!
I used to hate listening to your commentary. I always thought that it was pure color -- all bravado with no substance.
But... after about a year (yes it took that long!) the unthinkable started to happen. I began to respect you. You just kept churning out content and fighting through incessant hate. You approached your job with a professional attitude and commitment to your craft. More importantly, you stayed true to yourself and carried yourself well.
A coworker -- one that I respect greatly, once said that if you aren't consistently putting yourself in a position to fail, you're never going to realize your full potential. It's truly a difficult thing to do -- nobody enjoys the mental burden of failure.
With this in mind, what impresses me the most about you (and many esports pros) is your willingness to follow your passion, and your mental fortitude in fighting through the ups and downs. You've grown more than any of us will ever understand.
Total Biscuit, good luck on this journey!!! We're fucking cheering for you!

He already had surgery for his initial primary tumour if I remember right. However if its spread through his body (based on the fact that this new growth is somewhere totally different) it means that surgery is unlikely to do anything because its everywhere and therefore could embed anywhere and start again.
Don't get me wrong about chemotherapy. Its a very, very harsh treatment, I don't want to undersell how serious it is as a medical procedure. Again, you're basically pumping poisons into the body. Its just that those poisons work by killing dividing cells and the more rapid the division the more the toxic effect. Hence why it just doesn't outright kill everything but its still a massive stress on the cells and the body as a whole.

Treatments are improving but that's...unfortunately very unlikely. "Cancer" isn't a singular disease and consequently no treatment is going to work on everyone. Its incredibly complex.
Anyway, that's enough sciencing up this thread. If someone wants to ask/discuss anything more to do with the biology of this stuff then please PM me and I'll do my best, even if its not strictly my field. And once again, all the best to Mr. Bain; I sincerely hope he does much better than that prediction.

Sad to hear. Such an awful disease. Keep fighting!
The Starcraft community is one of the best communities out there and you TB are one of the most well known SC and overall gaming personalities.
A Starcraft tournament to raise awarness about cancer among a group of people (the average gamer is quite young) that hardly thinks of death could be a great way of fighting the disease.
Who knows, maybe one of the gamers out there now in their teens one day could be the one discovering the secret and cure to cancer because they were made aware by one of their favourite gaming personalities.
Sometimes I disagree with TB's opinions, but I always admire him for what he has done for us, Starcraft community. For all his hard work and dedication.
I lost already too many friends to cancer. But I honestly believe that TB is so strong that he can beat it.
I have a son that was born with brain cancer. Several doctors told us over and over again, that he would die for sure and any attempt to cure him would be just pointless. We never gave up on him, and now, after two years of constant fighting, it looks like we won and the cancer is gone for now.
Just reading about your diagnosis brings tears in my eyes, but stay strong and don´t lose hope, you can win this one John.
I wish you and your family the best and I am thinking of you.
I know it's bad news TB, but never let go of hope. You can make it. I believe in you. I wish you and Genna lots of energy and the best of luck. My thoughts are with you.

TB, you are the one that introduced me to starcraft which has become an enormous part of my life. You have done so much for the scene and I've always been grateful and admired that. So, you have to beat this because your a passionate and amazing person and the world is a worse place without you.
Terrible news, stay strong TB! I really hope you keep doing what you love, you have done allot for the gaming community as a whole and it would be tragic if you stopped entirely.
Regardless of how you feel about TB's opinions and bombastic personality you'd have to be one cruel person to wish anything like this on anyone. As a slight consolation, TB is fairly young and his cancer mainly affects the elderly so I would think his survival rate would be decent, and a tough guy like TB won't give up easily. My best regards TB, the world and your family still needs you.

Cancer's in his blood; there's not much that'll help I think. Not a doctor of course.
I've been watching TB since his WoW Cataclysm Beta days. Kind of sad when he stopped but then he introduced me to esports and I really got into SC2 that way. He really was my gateway to Starcraft and esports in general, the community I'm now pretty much only a part of online. This guy's had an incredible impact on my life (even though it seems so small) and it's terrible that this has to happen to him. Of course, everyone knew the chance of it returning wasn't entirely out the window, but still... Sucks so much. I hope you get better, John. Fight the hard fight. You're super strong and you're a one of a kind person. You've got your age in your favor too. You will beat this for as long as possible. We all believe!
Cancer is such a bitch, I wanna slap it really hard. Hopefully when TB's done slapping it even harder, it's gonna be gone forever or at least really weakened. It's time this century to get rid of it already. TB's our champion and we believe in him. If anybody can beat this bitch, it's him. Best of luck, TB, stay strong and with high spirit!

Cancer's in his blood; there's not much that'll help I think. Not a doctor of course.
To elaborate some more, if this truly is what TB has; The cancer TB probably has on his liver is actually the same cancer he had on his colon, it had evolved to such a point that it basically infected the proteins in his blood and that those proteins survived the chemotherapy. And once the protein reached the liver with the help of the bloodstream it simply attached itself to the liver and started to grow.
If the cancer was attached to only the liver then you wouldn't even need a liver transplant, there are people who are living perfectly with 2/3 of their liver removed. Problem is that since the cancer actually is in his bloodstream it will only appear again. I'm hoping that I'm really wrong about this though, I really do...
My appreciation for what you have done for e-sports is immense.
I have two friends and an ex girlfriend (the mother of my child), all diagnosed with Cancer. All three are still alive. All have outlived both the median and the average. All may still survive. All may still be cured.
I trust science, but science uses historical data based on old treatments going back many years. Victims of Cancer today will show much higher longevity and survivability than historical data indicates. All is not lost. Please remember this, All Is Not Lost.

He has much more left to do in this world, so I sincerely hope and pray that he does beat it a second time, with the second time being gg/no re for the disease.
oh this is so sad, i always liked your game review things and the ideas you have on the video game industry.
I watch your WTF is series to determine my choices in purchasing video games
I heard from friends that if a cancer spreads to liver it is really really bad and odds of survival is very low, but i hope that you can once again become an outlier :D
As you can see per the number of my posts I don't post much. I'm mostly a lurker. But this requires it! My heart goes out to you and your family. Much love and respect for you!
I wish you the courage to change the things you can change, the serenity to accept the things you cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Deal with it like u dealt with life, as far as i can tell: as a realist. You can get a lot of strength out of it, and you'll need that. Illusions are for weak people, as it is to surrender to an overwhealming enemy force.
Fuck the cancer! Keep on fighting (theres no other choice anyway)!
QUESTION!, TB says that the cancer is in his liver, now as a medical simpmleton, can anybody explain to me why he can't just get a liver transplant? I mean if they take the bad liver out and replace it with a new one, the "livercancer" should be gone too, right? Or am I thinking to much like a car mechanic now?

I'm just gonna quote some posts before which talked about all this:
On October 17 2015 01:09 temporary1 wrote: Liver transplant comes to mind, but I guess doctors would have mentioned it if there was a chance for them to work?

All cancers need to be staged and graded when you first get the diagnosis. This is done generically by biopsy, bloodwork, imaging.
Many cancers are staged with a "TNM" classification and range from 1-4. As explained by some of the other posters, when the cancer begins to invade and penetrate past the initial primary organ into the bloodstream it essentially 'seeds' somewhere else, or what is called metastasizes (the M in TNM). Once we have metastasis, you are largely classified as stage 4. The reason why transplant is not an option is because that is a high risk procedure for a high demand organ for a patient who is, to not mince words, terminal. Surgical resections of the tumor can be sometimes done but on the liver it is also difficult so chemotherapy can help to reduce the cancer burden of the body and hopefully slow down progression. The issue is that all patients who have metastasized will continue to do so, whether the liver has more 'spots' or they begin to occur in the bones, brain or lung.
I wish TB all the best, his work in this community has been amazing and any person going through this at any age deserves all of our support and well wishes. Stay strong and beat the odds.

also, not really knowledgable about this stuff, but can he apply for liver transplant to "fix" this?
From my understanding, if the cancer spread it could have spread elsewhere too while being undetectable. So a cancer patient wouldn't be anywhere near the top on the transplant waiting list because the odds are too high that the cancer is just elsewhere and would spread right back the the liver, thus "ruining" the organ.
That all could be wrong. I ain't no doctor. But I think it's really because they want to give the organ to someone who's otherwise healthy.
Plus there's probably a thing about how it's a major operation and those people want to be on chemo. Chemo + needing antibodies to combat infection is dangerous.
I was hoping that once was enough, but sadly with these types of cases the cancer lingers. I half-expected (like some others) to hear news of this form at some point.
Very sad to hear it so quickly, of course. Hopefully TB responds very well to treatment and lives on for many years to come!
You haven't had very many nice things to say about me TB, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone, I genuinely hope you pull through, good luck and stay positive.

Chemo will NOT make it better, it will make it much worse. TotalBiscuit needs CANNABIS OIL NOW. It will kill the cancer, he will be cured. This is not a joke, this is not a waste of your time. This is the reality.
TotalBiscuit - your cure is Cannabis oil, not chemo. I am so mad on all those people thinking there is no cure, for giving up so easily. Cannabis oil will save your life. Listen to me...

If you say this to enough people you'll eventually get one to listen and they'll die because of you.

The doctors may have judged that the prognosis wouldn't be much better, liver transplant or not. This may be due to the operation potentially taking a toll on his body and due to the immunosuppressive treatment that he would require after the operation. Alternatively, they may have calculated that there is a low chance of surviving the actual transplant procedure.

You should probably read a bit about this before dismissing it so fast.
Anyways, since doctors told TB they cannot help him anymore he has nothing to lose by trying some alternative medicine. I know I would without a second though. Research first what is most promising and then try it.

I suspect anyone with liver cancer and the internet will stumble upon tens of alleged treatments and miracle cures with no way to know if it's legitimate outside of amazing testimonials that don't refer to the people who have refused medical treatment and have died as a direct result.
Now sure, research these things, some may be promising. But a dude with 26 posts fanatically writing that chemo will "make it much worse" and that TB should "listen to him" does not inspire confidence. The delivery is reminiscent of how anti-vaxxers communicate.
I'm sure TB will be exposed to a variety of treatments, but I would NEVER go against medical advice. This makes me angry because people shouldn't give medical advice like that. Like I said, if you tell people not to get chemo, maybe they'll listen, and that has consequences. This guy suggesting not to get chemo, in my opinion, is straight up dangerous. Thankfully TB is not susceptible to this kind of stuff but other people might be.
TLDR: Reading a blog and watching youtube does not make you a fucking doctor. Amateur medical advice is dangerous. If you think people should try a thing, mention it - don't say to quit chemo. If you think you know what treatment a person needs off of a few lines of tweet, you're crazy.

Good luck with the chemotherapy, TB.
Its due to the fact that the cancer in his liver is a secondary cancer. Which means that the cancer has metastasized from his bowel to his liver. A liver transplant would do nothing because its systemic now. It could flare up anywhere at any time.
Actually that's not strictly true. A liver transplant might help a little for a very short while, but there's every possibility it'd just turn up again. So it'd be a hugely invasive, expensive and resource intensive procedure which would require a bunch of immunosuppressants that both will not cure him and will only likely work very temporarily.

No...cannabinoids are primarily used to assist in treatment of nausea and pain. There as been some tentative suggestions of direct action on cancers in restricting growth but, to my knowledge, nothing firm and definitely nothing on killing cancer outright.

This, absolutely. You should not go against medical advice of a doctor like that. Chemotherapy is a well established treatment, well-researched procedure that absolutely does help in the treatment of cancer.
TB is smart enough to listen to what his doctors are telling him, though. So I'm not too worried that random people on the internet will persuade him to go off and do something random.
Sometimes I don't know what is worse, terminal diseases or the bullshit alternative medicines some people are trying to sell to people who has no other to way turn too.
The most common "alternative" medicine I always hear about in various disease cases where a cure is hard to find is Homeopathy;
Let's say you have a some kind of mercury poising, what homeopathy then tells you to do is that you take a single drop of mercury and then dilute it with water to extreme levels into a solution and then you drink it and you will be cured. In fact the more diluted the solution is the more powerful it is.
Just to give an example of just how diluted this has to be, take the smallest unit of ANYTHING, doesn't matter what and put it into a glass of water, then pour that glass of water into the sea, wait till its mixed perfectly ( a couple of months wait time) then return and scope up a glass of water that and then you will have a cure!
This is just as scientific as blood-letting, only difference is that people are selling this shit to people and they are earning tons of cash doing it.
Yeah I read some of this homeopathic stuff and the bullshit is obvious. There is nothing wrong with trying some of it ALONG WITH chemo and proper, scientifically proven treatments, but replacing it is idiotic. Lest we forget how "smart" Steve Jobs was, dying to what was effectively a mild cancer that had a high survival rate using chemotherapy, because he believed in snake oil homeopathy and not science. Since this diagnosis I've actually grown to hate that guy, as awful as it is to speak ill of the dead. He had a lucky break and squandered it, many of us would kill for that opportunity.
I am well aware of CBD. CBD is not a cure, CBD can help in many ways and has no adverse effects, so sure, use it alongside chemo, not INSTEAD of chemo.
Homeopathy has no basis in science. Whats the old adage? "You know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine". Dietary changes? Sure, some basis in science, I'm moving over to ketogenic at the moment. CBD? Sure, it's good, I know from experience, but it's not a cancer cure, it's an aid in the process. I have access to some extremely good oncologists in this area, I'm 2 hours away from Duke, they're really good at what they do and have the latest technology. My trust is going in them, qualified professionals.
So many damn wannabe doctors in this thread. Given what he's actually told us, any Oncologist would tell you one thing: "I need to see the file." Because we have no real information, and to be honest, we don't need it. All we need to know is that he's sick, it's bad, and anything we can do to help, we should.
This is not the thread to discuss alternative medical treatments. TB does not need the advice of "internet medical experts". Further derailment will not be tolerated. *

If you have no idea don't try to prove others wrong. Go prove yourself wrong.

Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery! I beat appendix cancer (apparently that is a thing) two years ago, and although I am forever stuck in diamond league, what really matters in life is now clear. Health is #1 and I hope you regain yours. Stay strong!

eh it's not to mourn him but to celebrate him and recognize his huge influence on everything sc2 (and esports). and i'd be very surprised if he's done with that.

i think it's a really good idea, put a tophat on the horse and maybe encourage liquidians to donate a little to some cancer foundation?

That would be awesome - the tophat Liquid logo. They changed the logo for the historic supreme court decision so they can do it for one of our nearest and dearest. Also, I would buy one of those tee-shirts if they had a surcharge on it for cancer research.
